Radical Idea - Trade for Gholston

While we're at it why not sign Tony Mandarich to play left tackle, trade Brady for picks, and pick up Ryan Leaf on the cheap?
Is Brian Bosworth available? How about Ki-Jana Carter?

If not now than in the next few years. Samuel is a good corner, they just need another good safety across from Quintin Mikell (who is quite good) to help clean up the messes Samuel makes when he jumps routes. Letting Sheldon Brown go was a mistake IMO but Hobbs is a good nickleback. Obviously he's not up to playing CB2. They're getting Stewart Bradley back at MLB this year, which should shore up their run D significantly. They drafted some pass rushers to generate pressure aside from Trent Cole, we'll see if they pan out.

Their Offensive line needs cohesion but it just has to hold up better in pass protection, especially with Kolb at QB working off 3 step drops instead of McNabb.

Their running game is a question mark but I believe at this point in time all you have to be is average. Look at the Saints' backs. They put up very good numbers, but I think it was pretty clear it was due to scheme rather than players. And the Eagles went and pilfered Mike Bell to help in short yardage situations behind Weaver.

So that's the negative.

On the positive side they have a 25 year old QB that by all accounts the team believes in. DeSean Jackson is 23 and ridiculously explosive. Maclin was very good last year and is just going to get better. He's 22. Avant is a great possession receiver and is pretty young at 27. They have a breakout tight end in Celek who's 25 and has been on my radar for a couple years already. In the trenches they have Jason Peters I'm not totally sold on but is only 28. He could still live up to his enormous potential. On the other side Justice is a mere 25 at RT and seems to have put the terrible game vs the Giants a few years ago behind him.

None of those guys are over 30. If Kolb is 3/4 of the QB the Eagles think he is and they can get their D squared away they will be contending for SBs for the next 5-10 years.

And they won't be lucky to finish 3rd in their division, that should be expected. The NFC East is tough. Dallas is stacked and the Giants had an off year.

Sorry, didn't sell me.
There is enough there for 8-8 but a complete overhaul is needed for them to become SB contenders/

I agree that next year we should expect anywhere from 7-9 to 9-7 but I really do think that, as long as Kolb turns out OK, they will be in it to win it in the next few years. Reid loves drafting himself some O and D line.

But anyway, I'm living in Brooklyn and all my friends are from Philly so maybe I'm letting their hope go to my head a little. Go Pats!

This thread is adorable. Is the guy even in double digit tackles career wise yet?

the eagels do have a lot of good young talent. can they win the NFC east this year. i dont know

i don't get all the hate for samuel, he was thrown at just as much as Jonathan Wilhite, and give up less yards and TD's oh and he lead the NFL in INT's all will faceing the other teams #1 or #2 WR not the #3 or #4 like Jonathan Wilhite, was faceing so i would take him back in a sec.

I cant help but wonder how much Gholston actually loves football. Some people just play the game because it seems logical that they do so. Theyre built a certain way, it provides certain opportunities. Others just love the game. Not real sure which one he is. But I think its the first.

W W M D ...

What Would Moga Do ???

Well, thats about as big an IF as there is. I suppose there are 20-some NFL teams that if their QB develops into an all-pro they would be in contention. I would think Kolb fits more the less likely than the likely out of that group.

I dont think when the Eagles handed over that contract 'better than Wilhite' was the description they were hoping for.
Samuel is a fine corner, but he is paid as if he were a complete one, which he is not. I'm perfectly OK that instead of paying what it would have taken to keep him, we signed Bodden and drafted Butler and McCourty.

I imagine he loved the hell out of it in college when he was as strong as the OL that he faced that he was also much, much faster than.
Now that he can't get by simply due to having more natural ability and instead of playing football he gets a really good spot to watch it from, he don't like it so much.

I think a lot of you guys are looking at this the wrong way, imagine if we got Gholston for a 7th and then turned him into a decent player, the smack-talking rights would be EPIC, we could bust the chops of Jet's fans forever over it:D

Gholston could teach brace that you don't have to be a fat slob to be a loser

The best he would ever give us IMO is a guy who could rush the QB in nickel/dime and be below average at it. Not so Epic.
Hell the Jets after watching him for 2 years exiled him to being a 40 lb underweight 34 DE.
The one skill we thought he may have (pin back your ears and rush the QB from the edge) is the thing his team told him he wont be doing anymore.

More likely the 7th rounder we gave up would turn out to be better than Gholston, and the horselaughs would come our way.

The red circle represents offers the JEST would accept. The blue circle represents offers the Patriots would be willing to make.

Gholston has a significant cap amount attached to him, doesn't he? If the Jets can't get anything out of him on the field, then I bet they'd be willing to trade him on the cheap just to get some salary cap room in the next couple years. And then they could offer Revis more money.

Just to be clear, the above two sentences in no way indicate my desire for the Pats to try and trade for him ...

Yes, he's been a bust so far but it seems like the guy could be an absolute monster if he can put it together and there isn't a better coach to help him do that than BB. We're thin on OLBs anyway, if he could be gotten cheap enough it just might be a crazy idea that works.

What do you think?

Awful, just awful. Do you miss Thomas so much that you want to clone him?

Adam Seward threads are so much better than this one.
