Great Vid (old....sorry)

I knew the character of the offense had changed since 2007, but until I watched this video I had no idea just how much.

I can't even begin to express how much I miss the element of toughness and the attitude that Dillon brought to this team. It makes me dislike Maroney's style even more after watching a player that he had plenty of time to learn from. Dillon was truly a rare player...

Despite Corey's off the field antics (and they were serious) I loved the guy during game time. He was what I feel an NFL running back should be, tough, nasty, with great vision and some speed. The type of back that makes defenders (especially DB's) think twice about tying to tackle him. He had a wicked stiff arm too.

The 2004 team to me is the best Patriots team ever. They were very balanced and kicked the crap out of any team in their way!

I was never a real serious Patriots fan until after he was gone (I went from passive fan to uber fan in 2007, if you can guess why), but is there anybody in the NFL right now who is anywhere near that good with their hands? It seems like he was constantly pushing away somebody!

With all of the NFL gearing up to stop the passing game that is so prevalent now, wouldn't it make sense to bring back a power running game like that and mow teams down? Only problem, who can the pats get that runs that abusively well?

I miss the 2004 style of play. I know the Pats went 16-0 in the regular season in 2007, but I'll take 2004 every time. :rocker: Big nasty attitude!

I loved how that team beat people up on BOTH sides of the ball, miss that...

I miss the Dillon who played like a beast...until he good his new contract and it all went downhill...

Still, when I think of the 2004 season, I'll always remember his performance against the Colts in the playoffs...simply awesome!

I think this isnt fair to the man. The way I saw it those years was we got a player at the end of his career who had been in oblivion so long that he exploded when he got out and like most explosions they start out with bang and quickly burn out.

He pretty much gave us everything he had left in the tank in 04 and he just didnt have enough left in the tank in 05 and 06 still givig us what he could though.

His running in 04 is still the greatest thing I have seen on a football field. The man was so physical and nasty, he would make multiple people pay for trying to tackle him running them over and continueing down field leaving people in his wake. The way he took the will out of the Colts in the playoffs was amazing.

I think if they could they would. Corey was a rare kind of talent that the NFL has only seen maybe a dozen times. He is a guy that was extremely powerful but still had the ability to break the big runs.

Dillon played on a high ankle sprain and a calf injury because we had no other running backs.

We got into the playoffs with him hopping on one leg when he should have been in a cast. Had he decided not to play, he'd undoubtedly be in the Hall of Fame now, look up the yardage.

Shame, revisionist historians.

As one playedr noted: Corey Dillion is A MAN.

One thing that did not show on that tape is Dillion's blocking in the pocket for Brady. He did not just block but he killed people. He took out retribution on the LB and safeties. It was a beautiful sight to see a Jet safety on the ground looking out the ear hole after trying to blitz Brady.

Loved to see him play on the old Gillette grass. Lovely soft career-extending grass.

Note David Patten blocking for Corey on one of the (less than successful) runs. Oh dear....

Couldn't agree more!

CD was a smashmouth...run it down your throat back that this team has been unable to replace. Period.

And as for his last year...who cares. He was done. It happens to backs faster than any other position. CD rocked!

He was one of my favourite patriots... would give just about anything to have another running back like him. He also makes Maroney look even worse
