Derrick Burgess signed a 1 Year Deal with Pats per Shefter's Twitter.

Burgess Resigns For One Year

This was just mentioned by Adam Schefter on his twitter feed:

"Another smaller win in New England this morning -- Patriots reached agreement on a one-year contract with DE Derrick Burgess."

Hopefully the Burgess of the last few games of last season shows up. In my opinion, it seemed like he was more comfortable in the system after being a near non-factor for most of the year.

Looks like we posted almost at the same time effeene! Damn me and my slow typing! :)

Re: Burgess Signs 1 Year

I like this. I thought his play picked up in the second half of the season.

Re: Burgess Signs 1 Year

good to have him back here - maybe cunningham can come in and do the job, maybe crable breaks through -- maybe not.

at least we wont have to worry about ninkovich or woods as starters.

Haha I was surprised no one else had posted yet.. it had been on Shefters twitter for a whole 8 minutes - I mean werent we all waiting by the computer for this signing??

Re: Burgess Signs 1 Year

Yeah, great to have him back. He was great against Indy and was a solid contributer down the stretch last season. Hopefully he continues where he left off. I'm wondering what took so long for this signing to happen. I'd venture to guess he had some kind of an undisclosed injury this offseason and the Pats were waiting for him to heal up.

It makes the most sense to bring him back in hopefully for cheap. I wish they did this with Colvin last year.

Could be something like that, or simply that they waited for the player to accept their idea of his market value. Regardless, I'm very happy to have Burgess back. There's tremendous benefit to having a guy returning to your system rather than just learning the ropes. (The same can be said for Ninkovich, who is a better athlete than folks give him credit for.)

I like this alot. Let's see if he can turn his late season momentum into a full season. If not, we do still need depth at OLB. Good news

Certainly adds depth to the position.

Not unhappy to see him back. Hope he can have a solid 2010 season.

Safe move saw this one coming.

I know one poster predicted they'd sign Burgess to a one year deal, while everyone scoffed...

Oh yeah, it was me.:D

Burgess had a pretty good moth of December. His problems seemed to be more the need to learn the position over his talent. Now that he knows the position, he could be a good contributor to the team. Not expecting double digit sacks, but he could be far more effective than he was last year.

Isn't "Moth of December" a Norwegian Black Metal Band?

Nice move. Burgess started to establish himself in the Patriots system toward the end of last season. Let's hope this is a savvy veteran move and he's as motivated as ever to perform and school the youth.

kumbaya my friends.....our OLB's are awesome!!!!

LMFAO

Ya, hopefully one (or more) of the unknown quantities takes to some competition and lights it up in camp.

Burgess got better as the year went on, but we really need to be bringing up some OLB's from the inside.

at this point, all we have is hope

18 tackles and 3 sacks in the last four games of the regular season. Question is, was it a case of getting comfortable in the system, or did that just happen to be a decent four game stretch. We'll find out, decent depth signing though, not like we're stocked at the position.
