While I agree with the idea, the rules are ridiculous. An iPod isn't broadcasting anything.

Still, Santonio is a douche.

I see you have little understanding in the reasons for the rules. That's
ok. I assure you they are not arbitrary and even though they present a
challenge to your ability to understand, there are people who do know
what they are doing. They don't make these rules to make your life difficult.

so far...zero from Jetdell at the NFL Jet Headquarters

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. – Authorities at Pittsburgh International Airport filed an incident report after New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes failed to follow flight regulations by not turning off his iPod as the plane he was on was landing Liberty International Airport to Pittsburgh on Thursday night. He added that the report was filed with the Allegheny County Police Department after Holmes' flight landed Holmes got off the plane and police officers reminded him of complying with flight regulations, but the wide receiver was not charged with anything. Allegheny County police said in a statement that Holmes was not removed from the flight, contrary to some published reports."He was asked to remove his iPod (at one point), in which he complied," the statement said.

Well, if this is the case, then it isn't as bad. Depending on what the reports actually says in detail, it might not be a big thing at all.

Steelers were definitely smart in trading Holmes. Even something minor like this is the last thing the Rooneys need right now. They are just praying they can get Ben to become a model citizen [good luck].

I'm sure that, in spite the Super Bowls they won with Ben, they're regretting putting all their eggs in that basket, and kicking themselves for not coming down hard on him earlier.

I think this offseason we got some insight why Cowher bailed on Pittsburgh. I think he saw these things coming with Ben and Santonio. All accounts are that neither guys have ever been that loved in the Steelers' lockerroom. Cowher might have wondered how long he could keep these guys from doing something stupid and the answer is about two years after he retired from the Steelers' head coaching position. The good news for his replacement, Mike Tomlin, his side gig of acting on House is still going well.

Interesting. Is this a revision by Cimini? Or a different report. Because Cimini had it VERY different in his report. He said Holmes refused to turn off his gear when the plane was landing.

Something is weird, though. If he complied, then why was he removed from the flight? If he was. And if not, where did the story come from.

I think there is more to this than we are aware of at this time.

Still, you're welcome to him.

He needs to shape in or ship out! Guy needs to grow up!

At this point it sounds like he basically told them to f-off that he would do whatever he wanted, and they had the police meet him at the gate. The police said no harm no foul, dont do it agian, move on. Seems most likely.

Some of the Jets trolls are missing the point. (suprise suprise!!)

I don't think anyone on this board will argue with the fact that not turning off your IPOD is NOT a big deal.

But, he's already been in a ton of trouble, he's already suspended for 4 games why would he do anything at all to draw more attention to himself?! Just turn off your IPOD and do what they tell you. What the Jets trolls should find troubling, but of course won't, is that this guy seems to feel as though he can operate on a different level than anybody else and that none of his actions should have consequences. That locker room is going to be a complete and total mess. I can't wait for the season to start so the Jets can go back to being the jokes of the NFL.

In other words, this is just another example of the flaw that keeps getting him trouble, and its beginning to look like a character trait that he doesnt care to break.
That is very consistent with most of his actions and the attitude he has conveyed.
If anyone really believed that the Steelers make that trade without a high level of confidence that the problems are not in the past, I have a bridge for you.
There is a big difference between a person who HAS problems and a person who IS A problem.

Eh, you might be reaching a little bit on that one. Neither of us will know for sure, but I would think that Cowher would have accepted one of the many coaching jobs thrown his way after departing from Pittsburgh if that had been the case. IMO, I think he just wanted a little time off from coaching. At that point he had done it for a while and life as an NFL coach is very taxing.

this guy is turning into pacman jones fast. this is why the pats did not offer a 5th for him and why pitt kicked him out the door

Sure, that's what kills coaches. T.O. ended it for Parcells. Having to deal with spoiled A-Holes is what gives you stress, not coaching up less talented players that give their best.

Rexy's going to have quite a playground this year.

lol - I'm thinkin' maybe the radical enforcement of stuff on planes is getting crazy.

From the report on BSPN, Holmes was asked to turn off the IPOD during landing and he refused and that is when officers were requested.

I don't believe it is "radical" enforcement since it's BROADCAST prior to landing that all electronic devices need to be shut off. There is reasoning for it whether we understand it or not.

IPODS are electronic devices that have an FCC code attached to them. IPOD Touches also have them.. They do produce an electric field around them when in use.

Do you really think that the FCC would put a code on them if they didn't have the potential to broadcast or receive.. Hell, Gameboys supposedly can't, yet you aren't allowed to have them on either..

The rules aren't ridiculous. They are there for a reason. YOU may not understand the science behind it, but that doesn't make it any less real.

Yea, having to deal with a guy like Ben must be a nightmare for a coach with any integrity. Cowher's hands were probably tied in dealing with Ben R., knowing that if push came to shove, ownership would probably throw him under the bus before they would Roethlesburger.

The Holmes trade is now looking like a really good PR move by the Steelers: "See--this proves our organization takes appropriate measures with players with major character issues, and [by implication] Ben is just one strike away."

Yeah, they escort at least 10 passengers off the plane every flight I have been on. Sorry, it isn't a huge deal, but the league might think it is a significant enough deal especially if he was found to be beligerant because he was drunk (just throwing out the worst case scenario). I have been on plenty of flights and I have personally never seen anyone escorted off the plane because of any disciplinary reasons. It seems like Holmes was being an arse.

I fly all of the time and have seen 3 people escorted off flights for not turning off headphones or earbuds.
I think the rules are stupid but I obey the instructions
Nitwit Holmes should as well
Period....no exceptions

This clown is such a naive, immature child/man it's only a matter of time before his next "incident". Doesn't anyone realize how easy it would be for some opposing team's fan to slip a joint in one of his suit pockets while he's waiting in a queue to board a plane...then what?...the more visible he makes himself right now, the bigger target he makes himself...and in today's society? I mean just look at how crazed most of these Jet fans that log in here are...there's always this simmering rage bubbling and roiling just below the surface of every one of their posts, and it's usually centered around the "lack of respect for us!!!" card that is a known precursor to extreme violence in real life.

Just take a short look at THIS extremely distasteful and criminal conduct by a large group of Jet fans perpetrated on a lone fan who's just attending a football game for chrissakes.

YouTube - That's Just Wrong, Dude

does anyone actually think if they saw any of these Jet fans that have posted in the current "I hate the Jets" on the street or at a sporting venue, they wouldn't keep a close eye on them at all times??..I know I would....I can't even begin to imagine what an unbalanced K-Ro is like on the street and I really don't ever want to find out.

And that's my point....what is keeping a Dolphin fan from slipping a small bag of coke or a joint or some pills in Holmes luggage or on his person when the Jets travel south to Miami International? Or a Pats fan spiking his drink with contraband when he stays up here at an area hotel before a Jets/Pats contest. It's not like he hasn't got a track record and can deny it...he's WIDE OPEN. Somebody would be doing the Jets and Holmes a big favor if they sat him down and explained the contentious nature of the rivalry in the AFC East and the pure folly of playing the role, like he's still in Pittsburgh and it's a week after the Super Bowl win. It ain't. This is a whole new kind of animal and if Santonio doesn't get his sh!t wired tight, he may not even play ONE game this season, right or wrong.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAH..:rocker: ........I wounder if the commish will get involved

Yeah, commissioner Roger the "JET" Goodell, I doubt it.
