Found this article that poses the question on everybody's mind:
Bigger NFL Draft Bust: JaMarcus Russell or Ryan Leaf? | The Big Lead
Campbell's a league-average QB. Not great, not bad. Just by not sucking in unprecedented fashion, he's an enormous upgrade over Russell. And he's better than Gradkowski and Frye, who the Raiders were winning games behind last year.
Without question the biggest bust of all time!
No this is so wrong.
Guy is only 24 years old, its way, way too early to call him a bust. Also there have been many busts before but young people don't know about a lot of them.
I think Jamarcus...
Got kidnapped, arranged by his fat evil brother..
Jamal.
Who then took his place...
He's done.
And if he magically comes back and wins a starting QB spot, I will be INFINITELY surprised.
I'm not defending the guy, there is nothing to like about what he had done so far and his attitude is terrible by all accounts but,
I remember he made some stupid comments and apparently lost the locker room and then in the next game the pass rushers get to him very easily twice in a row. Gradkowski replaced him and suddenly that line got a lot better which lead me to believe that there might have been some malice involved and with Tom Cable as the head coach nothing would surprise me.
If the guy was not happy there and its quite easy to believe something like that with Cable's recent history then the guy might actually give it a go somewhere else in an environment that enourages him along.
Without question the biggest bust of all time!
Didn't Leaf stay in the NFL for 15 years or something as a second?
Well, I wouldn't go that far. Ryan Leaf still holds that title, with Tony Mandarich in second place, IMHO.
The difference is I don't think a lot of people outside Oakland expected him to amount to much. Course lately I've been hearing that a lot of people said Leaf wouldn't amount to much in the NFL either, I'm wondering how much of that is 20/20 hindsight.
But I wouldn't be surprised if someone signs him. Like they said on PTI, here's a number one overall QB who your team can have for next to nothing, someone will take a chance on him (though they'd have to be insane to make him a starter.)
He was slightly better than Leaf...believe it or not!
Russell: 354 attempts 680 completions 52.1% completion percentage 23 INTs and 18 TDs in 31 games with 25 starts.
Leaf: 317 attempts 655 completions 48.4% completion percentage 36 INTs and 14 TDs in 25 games with 21 starts.
The bigger problem with Leaf is the other QB he was drafted in front of.
