I know alot of the posters are down on Chad Jackson... but hear this out.

What does it take to be Rookie of the Year?

1000 - 1100 rushing yards
75 - 80 catches

We know Maroney is capable.. but won't get the carries
Deangelo WIlliams also won't get the carries
Reggie Bush will get some combination of carries and catches.. but I'm guessing he's not as durable as people think.
Vernon Davis may get there, but methinks Alex Smith has too many issues

So how about a talented WR who is going to have a great QB throwing him the ball. Without Branch, its the perfect storm in terms of having a talented rookie being featured throughout the season. Something I don't think we can say about any other rookie.

Heck, Chad Jackson doesn't even need to play the first few games to reach the 75 catch mark.

Gabriel will be the nuber 1 reciever, great pick up, Jackson will bearly se the field this year.

PATS TARGETS FOR BRADY

1) Gabriel
2) Watson
3) Brown
4) Graham
5) Caldwell
6) Faulk
7) Maroney
8) Mills
9) Thomas

As someone who strongly advocated for the Pats to use their #1 pick on Jackson, my advice is to keep expectations for rookie WRs low.

Even the greatest WRs have had very subpar rookie seasons. If Jackson provides a contribution this year - given his hamstring issues - look at it as a major bonus.

One needs to keep in mind that Jackson's true value likely wouldn't become apparent until Year 2 at the earliest, even if he weren't injured.

He has to actually hit the field first. He has no chemistry with Brady. If he would have been practicing all preseason then maybe I could understand, but right now Greg Jennings is the more likely WR pick.

Don't forget, he still has Ben Watson.

You forgot Cory Dillon.

I just hope he is not the second coming of Bethel Johnson.

Dillon might catch 10 passes this year. Thats why he isnt on the list.

Damn, let's just see him get on the field and catch a pass. He'll be lucky to be the Patriots' offensive RoY, let alone the league's.

I 100% agree.

Jackson has only had 2 unimpressive practices before the hamstring injury. What has he done to show that he is an effective NFL WR let alone a ROY?

Answer: Absolutely nothing!

It is nothing more than magical thinking at this point. He could be great but he also could be a "Tony Simmons" bust.

Chad responded to this jokingly, but I wonder how much truth there was in it.

Finally, rookie receiver Chad Jackson (hamstring) remained on the sideline as he has since early in camp. In the locker room, Jackson was asked by a reporter if he could stop and talk.

“Not yet, still on probation,†joked Jackson.

Assuming Jackson gets healthy and gets into the rotation this year, and more so next year, I would expect him to EXPLODE for year 3 which is when most WR's really take off.

He's an incredible talent, no doubt, he just needs to get on the field. :)

I actually think LoMo could be the ROY if he stays healthy.

What is this based on? Dillon has caught more than 10 passes every year he has been in the NFL.

I nominate him for the "pag" award. In other words play a game.

While I agree with everyone else that he's only had 2 practices, so there is nothing really to base those ROY projections on - I certainly think he'll be given an opportunity to be a big part of this offense. If he has hands - I hope he can move ahead of Caldwell at some point in the season.

I know it's not the norm, but we saw Terry Glenn have a 90+ catch season as a rookie. I wish he could be at least half of that...

Pierre Woods rookie of the year, 25 sacks.:D

The likelihood of a player who came out as a Junior making Rookie of the year is low, and that applies to both Jackson and Maroney. Also Jackson is known to be weak on short routes.

I strongly disagree with your synopsis here. This guy was not drafted to sit 9th in order of receptions.Jackson will surprise many this year.He will open eyes.Mark my words.

Heck - I already have him ahead of Caldwell with only 2 practices, but I'm still desparately hoping to be proven wrong and that Caldwell will meet all the predictions around here of filling Given's shoes.

Maroney will share the load with Dillon so I don't think he will put RoY numbers.
