Yes because questioning why a team with so many holes isn't drafting a position of need while there was great talent available at those positions of need = meltdown. Keep drinking the kool aid.

I've always thought that you address positions of need with veteran players, while the draft is for developing talented players that will contribute in the near future. We have a hole at OLB... how is the draft going to help us there? How many guys out there are ready to step right in and tally up 8 sacks their rookie season?

I don't know, maybe there was a guy in that draft class that may be helpful as a rookie.......I mean we all know that Mayo was a bum his rookie year, clay matthews didn't help the Pack, Brian Cushing was AWFUL.......

And if we never draft one, we will never develop one.

Its hard to take an opinion seriously that says:
I know corners are important but how does using one pick to only get a corner and not address DE,OLB or WR help.
Breer apparently is one of those who suggest the Patriots should have brought weapons to the draft in order to take hostages and demend 5 first round picks.
Last I checked, every other team filled one need with each pick. We did however add a 3rd rounder to fill one more need.

Personally, I think corner was as much a need as anything (and I said so weeks ago) so if this was the BPA it certainly fit need as well.
As far as I know the Colts choice was a pretty poor fit in our system also.

Sure you can debate whether other players would have contributed more to different areas of need, but how does someone get paid to offer and opinion that amounts to "I know we needed a corner but how does that fill every other one of our needs"

One of the (to my way of thinking) many downsides of this new draft format is that we're now rating round one in a vacuum. It's unfair to the teams and players. I don't like this pick in isolation. In fact, I freakin' hate this pick in isolation. However, tomorrow could yield promising prospects at the positions I felt were much more in need of addressing, and that would change my mind.

Unless someone pulls a "With the first pick in the draft, the Rams select Ima Bigfoot, kicker from Tennessee", it's going to be too soon for most one-selection teams to have any sort of a fair draft grade applied, or to even grade the pick. The most that's fair, to my way of thinking (and I've done it with the CB), is to talk about it in isolation with the understanding that the opinion could change as things move forward.

Breer is entitled to his opinion. The team can benefit from critical commentary....

My opinion is that Breer's pretty clearly correct. The team had bigger needs than cornerback. If you want to argue against that, I'm sure you can find a post of yours from pre-draft times where you listed CB as the team's #1 need.

I'd love to see that, actually, since I believe that I was told by at least one person on Patsfans.com that I was wrong to even put CB on my list of draft needs at all (or maybe that it was just a very, very, very low priority. Something like that.).

A lot of people here were crying when the Jets signed Cromartie and wondering why the Patriots didn't pick him up. So, the draft rolls around, the Pats pick a DB and a lot of the people here are crying that we drafted him. Seems like there is no winning.
