Rick Gosselin's Final Mock [merged X2]

Exactly.

And Tebucky Jones pretty much sucks.

Meanwhile, Meriweather has 9 picks in the last two seasons.

Lastly, signing one of the best SS's to ever play the game isn't exactly in the same ballpark as drafting someone who could very well be Michael Huff v. 2.0.

On a seperate note, I'm not sure what to make of the analyst who rated the Pats as the 3 worst pass defense when QBs are throwing over the middle.

That can certainly be tied back to the lack of a pass rush, but I think we can all agree that from a coverage-standpoint, Sanders and McGowen aren't exactly 2003/2004 Geno Wilson. I'd also attribute that stat to a less-than-stellar nickle and dime DB package (Willhite has his moments I guess, but hes not consistient)

Does Gosselin's mock mean another trade-down?

Gosselin has these guys going before 22:

Ryan Mathews
Demaryius Thomas
Anthony Davis

If these guys go off the board before 22, then at least two of these guys should be available:

C.J. Spiller
Earl Thomas
Dez Bryant
Jimmy Clausen

BB might go after one of these guys at 22, but Dallas might give up a three to move up and take Thomas or Bryant, and there may be several teams interested in moving up or getting back into the first round to get Clausen. Someone may be willing to give up a 2 this year and a 1 next year for Clausen. My guess is that BB might take either of those deals.

Re: Does Gosselin's Mock Mean Another Trade-Down?

I'd take Spiller or Bryant at 22 before I'd trade down.

Cousin Jack, We don't always agree but a thumbs up on that one. Definitely.

Cousin DW Toys, we rarely agree on here.

But I agree with both you and Jack.

If he is there, Draft Spiller.

Re: Does Gosselin's Mock Mean Another Trade-Down?

I'll echo the sentiments. There is no way that spiller will still be there, but if he is, the pats should run up to the podium.

Deep draft

We'll know that for sure in about 4 or 5 years. Now, any declarations of "deep draft" are merely declarations, theories, hypothesis etc. They are meaningless.

Gosselin has the Texans taking Spiller at 20, Cin taking Gresham @ 21, and NE with Thomas available @ 22. It's hard to argue with Goose, but if Thomas is there at 20, I think Houston takes him over Spiller. I don't think that would alter the Bengals pick of Gresham, so that leaves Spiller out there at 22.

I would be extremely disappointed if we took a RB in the first round.

I don't get why people want Reggie Bush 2.0 in the first round, heck,we have faulk for that.

I'd advocate a pick for a guy like Hardesty or Ben Tate in the later rounds, but there are too many other positions that need help to warrant not taking a RB with our first pick.

In the spirit of this thread, I'd argue that safety is not one of them.

You know I'd agree with that. I think safety is the deepest position on the defense. If a pick MUST be used on it, I'd rather one in the 5th-7th round be used.

Just checking...... :)

I don't know how I would react if Earl Thomas was the pick. I think he'll be a game hanger in the nfl, but we have 4 good safeties.

Earl Thomas to the Pats? I don't think there's any way he lasts that long. And even if he does... Do we really try to play Thomas and Meriweather together rather than addressing the glaring pass rush issue??

Re: Rick Gosselin's "Final Mock (merged)

Thought the point of these Mocks was to predict what will happen. Anyone who thinks Dez Bryant will be available to the Cowboys at 27 needs to look for another job. Yes, I know he says Bryant won't slide this far and that the Cowboys would need to trade up...well then put that in your Mock and don't have the Cowgirls picking at 27 !!

Epic Fail.

He doesn't have WR as a position of need for NE, so that alone makes me not care about his mock.

If the Pats take Thomas with their 1st round pick, I'm going to jump out my window.

Re: Gosselin Final Mock 2010

I don't think that Philly will give us a 3rd to move up two spots from 24 to 22. We'd be lucky to get a 4th. In any case, they can simply wait for McCurty or Jackson. And why should they believe that we would pick Thomas instead of McCurty or Jackson. Sitting at 24, they are guaranteed one of three defensive backs without giving up a pick.

Good call on the what we'd get for going from 22 to 24.
