Pats to sign Torry Holt

Here is Scout Inc.'s take on Holt (granted it was prior to last season):

He's a very good athlete with good size and speed, when healthy. He has adequate hand use to avoid jams and is good at slipping contact. He has quick feet and shoulder turns to get narrow on his release. He can also avoid jams with a quick swim move. He is a smooth and fluid route-runner with good speed and burst. He has good stem speed, can sink his hips at the breaks and has good quickness to get in and out of his cuts. He does a good job setting up defenders with his body fakes and does a good job selling double moves. He has good route tempo with enough speed and acceleration to stretch the defense vertically. He challenges coverage with his ability to produce underneath, over the middle or vertically. He has excellent hands with long arms to extend and pluck the ball cleanly. He does a very good job of making the tough catch showing good hand and body adjustments. He can catch when covered, has good concentration and competes for the ball. He shows good awareness to his surroundings. He avoids big hits with his ability to get down quick after the catch in traffic. He's a competitive player when the ball is in the air. He is willing to attack the ball at the high point, but has also shown the ability to defend or knock it down if can't get in position to make the catch. He has very good body control along the sideline or in the end zone. He can make a last-second extension with his hands to disguise the timing of the balls arrival. After the catch, he has good speed and quickness to produce after the catch. He is quick enough to stop and restart to make defenders miss and get turned up field. He is fast enough to outrun pursuit angles, if he gets the ball in space and he has finishing speed. He's not a strong guy with the ball in his hands to break tackles and will go down quickly at times in the vicinity of linebackers.

Personally, I like the pick up. The question is whether his drop in production was his declining skills or the fact he had David Garrard in 2009 and a declining Marc Bulger coupled with an aged Trent Green in 2008.

Works for me, I wanted him last year. He's old but he should still be able to give us what Gaffney did.

Moss and Holt would've made a helluva duo if this was 10 years ago lol.

He's actually younger than I thought. At 33, a good 5 years younger than Galloway. A hell of a lot more productive in recent years as well, despite subpar QB'ing.

At the end of the day, really, nothing matters other than the fact that he's better than Aiken. Therefore: good signing.

Can we give Brady some real weapons?

This offseason has been horrid

Yes it has been horrid.. We've had more wannabe fans come out of the woodwork than any other time.

Quoted for absolute truth.

He is 8 months older than Moss...

I think having Galloway fresh in our memories might make some hesitant but Galloway is 5 years older than Holt. I think Holt is a decent signing considering what we have to start the season.

Epic! I love Torry Holt. He is my 2nd favorite WR of all time behind Moss! Great signing IMO.

I guess its a good move..?Not too sure what to make of this.

And let's not forget: Galloway's problem wasn't with his body; it was with his head.

Not to mention he's not coming off an injury plagued season, unless I missed a big one. And he seems like more of a route runner than Galloway who was speed speed speed.

Much, much better than Aiken. Happy with the signing. We still should draft a WR though.

Agreed. This doesn't change our draft strategy at all, as WR is still an area of improvement both this year and in the future.

Very true.

I will also say this because I'm sure it will be brought up/debated. Right now, Torry Holt > Terrell Owens

Well, I don't know about drafting a wideout. To me, that would depend on what they thought of Tate's potential. However, I would definitely like to see another veteran brought in. Unless he decays in the offseason, Holt should be an improvement over Aiken, but that was the case with Galloway last year, too, and I'm not of the opinion that David Patten is enough veteran competition.

I wasn't too overly exicted when I heard this at first, but the fact he had 50+ catches for over 700+ yards with a run first team and subpar Qb makes me think he could put up some decent numbers with the Patriots. He is better than Patten and Aiken, hopefully he isn't the last WR we add though.

With Edelman and Tate already on the roster, is there really a need for another young guy?

Did you have anyone in mind? Coles?
