Ever seen a picture of Eric Jackson; the silken tongue voice of Jazz on WGBH? Now here is face made for radio. Makes Carl Banks look like Cary Grant:

Eric is a very intelligent man ... why do you compare him to the blowhard Gresh. :nono:

Just to point out that you cannot judge a person by their appearance.

As far as blow-hard; Gresh is a like a sneeze in church compared to the hurricane that is Felger, John Dennis, and Dan O'Shaughnessy (the king douchbag of all the mean-spirited writers in New England).

There is a story today in the Herald that Pete Sheppard may end up over at The Sports Hub.

Don't get me wrong Pete Sheppard and Andy Gresh seem like nice guys, but are they an improvement over a guy like Tanguay?

I always felt Tanguay had to overcompensate for Zolak's flaws. Zolak strikes me as a good guy, but is by no means a radio professional in the same way that people like Tanguay and Glen Ordway are. I think Zo is best suited as a guest host on the Big Show a few times a week.

If I were running the show over at 98.5 I would have hired a guy like Bob Neumeier and kept Tanguay on board. They should have made that show as professional as possible instead of going the glorified sports fan route with Gresh and Zo... They don't stand a chance against Dale and Holley.

The major reason why most programs at 98.5 are doing well is because they are counter programing to the noise + noecons on WEEI... It's not a coincedence that the one literate program on WEEI (Dale + Holley) is holding off the new guys better than the other shows.

Tanguay got screwed...

Andy Gresh honed his craft under the tuteledge of Jersey 'jackoff' Red ... enuff said.

Is that the same Jersey Red who was the mysterious friend of Rick Pitino?

I like Pete ... with his flaws.

He's never going to be mistaken for a top sports guy.
He tends to repeat things and stumble on his words.

But he's not arrogant and doesn't play the know it all card.
Pete's very good at getting a discussion going and letting the callers drive the topic.
He's knowledgeable in all our major sports including soccer to some degree.
I'm not sure if he could drive a time slot but he's a good fill in and co-host and an improvement over Gresh in overall sports knowledge and running the call board. I would tune in to Pete ... :eat1:

I like them both. Pete is a Patriots homer and he is ready to smack you in the face if you are not; my kind of guy. Very refreshing after listening to Felger. Pete has good diction and is well spoken but maybe not as well spoken as Gresh. Yes; Gresh is well spoken. Pete's sport knowledge seems more expansive than Gresh and he is more professional on the air; I hope The Sports Hub keeps them both. I wish Pete would replace the jackasses in the morning. Pair him up with someone good (Shilling?) and he would kill Dennis and Callahan.

Awesome. I bet you're a pretty objective person in real life - not.

Tedy Bruschi did a bit with Toucher & Rich this morning that had me laughing to the point of tears. They had Tedy Bruschi reciting lyrics to songs from the band Rush...and since the lead singers name is Geddy, they called the bit "Geddy Bruschi".

It not only showed how genius T&R can be at times, but also that Tedy Bruschi has a one hell of a sense of humor.

Here's the audio:

I resemble that remark. Patriots all the way. If I lived in Oakland or Tampa Bay I might feel differently about the home town team but not here. Felger should be shipped to Oakland so he could have some legit criticism of the local team not the garbage he gins up here.

There are three kinds of people around here.

Pats fans, who are not objective and tend to support the team even when it is doing poorly.

non-partisan people, who are not pro-patriot or anti-patriot, they have no emotional tie to any team. They simply like the game of football, not any particular team.

Pats detractors, usually fans of other teams for whom the Pats rarely if ever do anything right and who twist facts to "prove" the Jets, redskins, etc etc methods and FO moves yield better results than the pats. This includes mediots like Felger, although Felger is a special case because he admits his ingorance. In the midst of critcizing the Pats for poor salary and cap management, he freely admits he doesn't not understand the cap.

Did you listen to Tanguay? Im in my car all day and gave those guys a shot, Tanguay is god awful. To me Gresh isnt that bad, he keeps the show moving.

Gresh sux
that moron doesn't know jack squat about football
I can not and will not listen to 98.5 when he is on the air

Felger can be a giant d-bag but at least he knows what he is talking about.
I might not always agree with him but I like to listen to his show.

I have read that Gresh *might* be just keeping the seat warm until Pete Sheppard's noncompete is up in May. Sheppard's Facebook page supposedly said recently he would be back on the air then, though not where. WBZ is the obvious place and midday is the obvious time, but who knows...

just an fyi alamo.....noncompetes are illegal in massachusetts an employer decides to put that type of wording into a contract it can't be enforced. RARLEY do situations like that occur....but...they are illegal.

Untrue. A NCA will be upheld in a MA court of law if it the court determines it to be reasonable.

When EEI and Sheppard negotiated the contract buyout, I'm 99.9% sure he signed a NCA in order to get the full-value of his contract.

I think we're looking at 2 different senarios Robert (i may be wrong). Your case, or the senario you laid out with Pete, if that's the case than the NCA would be legal or upheld if both signed it.

If Pete didn't want to sign the NC (for whatever reason) and EEI wanted to impose it, it's my understanding from my lawyer that Pete could contest it.

My bad. I was talking in general terms. Let me a little clearer. About two years ago, I was a director-level employee at company x and we were acquired. About a month later, the acquiring company got rid of us and said that if we didn't sign the revised separation agreement (which contained the NDA language), I would not receive a severance package (I had a job lined up so I really didn't care). I refused to sign it (at my lawyer's suggestion). The acquiring company enhanced the severance package greatly (more $$, extended health-care benefits) and I gladly signed the separation agreement.

So who knows what happened behind the scenes. Maybe Shep saw his dismissal as a of breech of contract. Maybe the contract language (NDA) didn't include "The Sports Hub".

My other point was sometimes the courts need to educated regarding who is a direct and indirect competitor. If it's an indirect competitor that the employee is going to, the court will typically rule in favor of the employee. If it's a direct competitor (EMC to IBM, HP, etc) and the employee can impact revenue or provide IP to the company he/she is going to and the result in an unfair competitive advantage, the court will push for a settlement/renumeration session in which an arbitrator will rule.

In the case of Shep, The Sports Hub is a clear direct competitor. But IMO, Shep wasn't going to drain EEI's audience so I'm not sure what Jason Wolf and the other folks there were worried about. D&C, The Big O...different story IMO.

Gresh is horrible. His voice sounds like a constant scream, and he knows NOTHING about sports, including football. Zo is best suited as someone in here said, as a 3 day a week co host or something. Regardless, I never listen to the 10-2pm show on 98.5 cuz Mike Holley is the best dude on the radio. Too bad he replaced one of the other best dudes in Bob Neumeir, instead of that mambi Dale Arnold. Now there is a goober if there ever one was.

My take on the 2 stations:

6-10AM

Toucher and Rich are ok. I listen to them sometimes, but D&C are still better in the morning. My alarm clock goes off to T&R, but I listen to D&C when I get to work.

10-2PM

No contest. Especially since Gresh is on. Holley is the most complete personality on any show, in any time slot, so to me, it's an uphill battle for the Hub here. A Neumier and Sheppard show might give EEI a run for it's money though.

2pm-6pm

Bye, bye Big Dope. I think the Hub is much better in this time slot. I can't stand the Big Dope. He knows nothing about sports. I think Felfer and Mass is the better show regardless. Felger is a DB no doubt, but he knows more than Ordway ever will. Ordway keeps talking about salary cap "slots" when he talks the Celtics, and free agency. WHAT?!? That was the 90's pal! Seriously. How can a sports radio guy, who's expertise is supposed to be the NBA, not know the basics of the salary cap, or how contracts work? He never knows what players are making, or how many years they have left on their deals. He's just flat out horrible.

6pm-

I think Adams is funny, but he's more entertainment than he is sports. DA is more of a sports guy. I tune into both when in the car, but being more of a sports oriented person, I tend to like DA a little better. Adams is funny. I used to love his show on NECN. Anyone remember that? That had to be 15 years ago.
