Brandon and Mike must have passed some kind of incentive clause becuase both today received pay raises...

McGowan goes from $730,000 to 1.3 Million this season

Wright goes from 1.2M to 2.125M this season

Congratulations to both players for performing above standards that reaped rewards this year!

Re: McGowan and Wright get Pay Boosts

McGowan was mostly on the bench the last quarter of the season, I'm not sure he's part of the solution. I'm hoping to see a lot more of Chung this year with Sanders and McGowan battling it out for 3rd safety time.

Up in pay could mean retaining the starting position in 2010,I wonder about the status of Sanders and will the team look to trade him..I think he is still a decent Safety although late at times in the tackles department.

If the team drafts a Safety before round 4,someone is going to go.

Sanders had a LOT to do with dragging that backfield out of chaos in the last half of the season. McGowan WAS awesome and then disappeared. I think they had to choose between a mangler and a chess expert.

McGowan faded towards the end of the year, he'll add some depth and be a good special team guy....Wright played well all year. I'm hoping Wright is used coming off the bench and is not relied upon as a starter (he may start a 2 or 3 games due to injury but if he's a full time starter we're in trouble).

Re: McGowan and Wright get Pay Boosts

Sanders may not be the TE killer that McGowen was, but he is probably our best tackler in the secondary.

McGowan didn't get beat deep for the first half of the season. Then got picked apart for 4 weeks.

Sanders came back and the passing game slowed down for the opposition.

Why the OP didn't reference the source I have no clue, the way it was posted made it sound made up.

McGowan, Wright receive pay bumps - Patriots Blog - ESPN Boston

"Up in pay could mean retaining the starting position", or it could also mean the players' cost is now more than their value and the Pats will be looking to see if suitable replacements can be found... incentive raises are an imperfect way to reward players as there is a limited number of allowable criteria.

Don't let DW hear you speak so highly of Sanders..

Where does the "Sanders is a bad tackler" come from? He was laying people out last year. Didn't he throw out like two concussions? I like Sanders, he's not a game changer but he's very useful off the bench when someone is having an awful game or the young guys aren't playing well. Example: the end of last year when the secondary went to sh!t.

Never said you made it up, but without knowing the source there is no way to assess whether your source made it up. "According to Reiss" would have been sufficient if the actual link was too much.

And you *did* make up the "both today received pay raises" part, because incentive raises most certainly don't happen on April 7. The raises took effect at the start of the league year and were just reported today.

Receiving pay raises today and having them in your pocket is a bit nickpicking eh?

Like your boss saying today I have decided that you deserve a $1 an hour pay raise, does'nt mean hes giving you that right NOW this very moment...c'mon,man

I swear some of you guys are as sensitive as a rash in an armpit

But it won't actually be in their pockets until their first game check in September, so that's a puzzling explanation which doesn't explain why you said they received the raise "today".

My point is that the post was clearly wrong in one detail, and that automatically brings the rest of the story's details into scrutiny. Which citing a source eliminates.

Next time the Pats decide who plays based on pay, and not on performance, will be the first. That's the whole reason why McGowan had a chance to win the job in the first place, and even at his new salary he's still making significantly less than Sanders. Besides, based on how last year played out, I think it's pretty clear that Sanders is valued significantly higher than McGowan. The secondary needed Sanders to step up and take command, and he did.

His hitting was bigger last year. His tackling has always been consistently good.

When he makes contact, he does just fine. He has a little bit of Mr. Magoo (youngsters can use the google) in his pursuit angles, particularly in pass coverage. Though I will admit I didn't see any serious whiffs in the 2nd half of last year.

Hope you are right with Chung and wrong we do not get a pick for Sanders. Read that the Bears might be a home for him with an Olsen swap. I would not morn this move. I want the Pats to be better this season.

Blame this on DeB! I was thinking about leaving this alone.Yet I get dragged back in.

Congratulations to both players. I hope they're smart enough to bank the cash.

FYI
Wright's 2011 salary was also increased from $1,240,000 to $2,165,000. Wright's 2012 salary was also increased from $1,280,000 to $2,205,000.
