BTW, he was listed as the starting WR opposite Randy Moss on the Raiders most recent depth chart:

This looks like a good pick-up to me. The Pats will be trying to patchwork it at WR this year, but between this guy and Chad Jackson's potential, the Pats may be in a position to seriously upgrade their receiving corps.

Is it just me or is that Raiders messegeboard really creepy.

Their sigs are funny. Most are probably 185lb geeks though.

I guess I'm used to it, it looks just like a BART train/station. :D

This trade rocks!

I remember watching Chris Berman highlights and him describing a great day by Gabriel - I think it was early last year. This kid is an up and coming talent and will explode here in New England with Brady and this team!

Great, Great move.

Can't wait for Branch to be gone now - get that 1st rounder!

I am no longer worried at all - BB strikes again.

DYNASTY CONTINUES !!!!!!!!!!!

Right now, I would take a second round draft pick from the New York Jets, since the selection would most likely be in the top ten.
Unfortunately, they weren't offering their own second round pick, but the one they acquired from the Redskins. Look for that pick to be in the #55 to #60 range.

Reminds me of Attica, NY!
Of course, I am just joking. :woohoo:

Ah the ever judicious Box_O_Niceness. lol Seriously, how did you handle the Bongos going to New York? I felt for you when I heard that news.

All the gray and black makes my eyes depressed.

when was last time we had a good WR over 6"1? maybe because Brady has been throwing it a little too high last year over the 5"9 guy

Unfortunately, we don't call those kind of plays. :D

It's funny to me that you stand by these kinds of statements when the play that really started this whole dynasty was a crossing pattern to Troy Brown. Sheesh.

But we digress.

Patriots deal for Raiders wide receiver Gabriel

By John Clayton
ESPN.com

The Oakland Raiders made the first surprise move of Saturday's final cut day by trading starting wide receiver Doug Gabriel to the New England Patriots for an undisclosed draft choice.

Gabriel started five preseason games ahead of Jerry Porter and is considered to be a good, young receiver on the rise. The interesting part of the trade is how it plays into the Deion Branch holdout in New England.

The Patriots have been offered second-round choices by the Jets and the Seahawks but Friday's deadline for Branch being able to make a deal passed without anything happening. Branch filed two complaints with the NFLPA over the failed trade. The first one was because Branch feels the Patriots breached a verbal contract. The second charges that the Patriots did not negotiate in good faith.

The Patriots lost starting wide receiver David Givens to the Titans in free agency and the Branch holdout leaves them short on receivers.

The other interesting part of this trade is where it puts Porter, who has been in Art Shell's doghouse. Porter, who asked to be traded, lost his starting job. In the preseason finale against the Seahawks last Thursday, Porter was running third team and closing out the game in the final minutes.

This is a great pickup. I have a close friend that went to Central Florida the same time Gabriel did so I've followed his career closely. I have no idea what the Raiders are doing trading him. It reminds me of fantasy football when a smart owner prays on the weak. I think Gabriel is one of those players ready to breakout. Granted, it will take him some time to grasp a new offense but once he does, he has the physical skills to put up better numbers than Branch in my opinion and I'm not taking anything away from Branch, I'm just really high on Gabriel. What a steal.

Do we lead in the all dreads team now? Asante, Maroney, Gabriel. Stone's gone but he was part of it too. Anyone I'm missing?
