Rob...I stand corrected.

Hm, well, I guess I'll let the tattoo drop.

Where did the 'Get Paid' story come from?

A reporter (I can't rember who) saw the tattoo an either misread it or forgot the wording. Misquotes are common in the media. "Play it again Sam" was never uttered in Casablanca for example. Or Sally Fields never said "You like me, you really like me" when she accepted her Academy Award (she really said "I can't deny the fact that you like me, right now, you like me!"). I will chock it it up to that.

It was Jackie McMullan (sp?) from the Herald.. She's a hack and so is the paper.

Yeah, that goes both ways. Too many players today don't care who they play for as long as they can make an obscene amount of money. And many of them don't deserve it.

well..... the colts care.......for about 5 guys

They really don't either. Any of those 5 guys would be gone if he stopped producing. In the case of a Manning his box office value certainly factors into it as well.

With the rules the way they are, teams have to pick and choose who they "care" about. Asante is actually a good example as the team that cares about him spent most of the decade with a reputation for not caring about anyone not wearing #5.

IIRC it was Jackie MacMullen. She lso did an interview with Asante talking about money, then published it many months later when the money talk had different meanings without saying it was an old interview.

This is the same Asante Samuel that said he could never repay Belichick for the education he got from sitting in the Coach's office and studying film.

For someone that has not played for the Pats in two seasons he still talks about his old team quite a bit. Sounds like sour grapes to me. he got his money but he wishes they kept him in NE.
pj

Disrespectful or not you have to admit he was a pretty darn good corner that we lost...tied for the NFL in INTs this season,I believe

I see no disagreement between you and Asante.

It doesn't matter to me. They're commodities and as long as we get value for the commodities it's all good. Letting valuable commodities leave for nothing, that we can't do.

I didn't realize that NFL players are looking for warm fuzziness and not money.

Bill looks for players who will give value and apparently puts a price range on what to get out of a position. It would seem that other teams are willing to pay top cornerbacks more than us.

Some positions Bill probably values more than other teams.

It is not "one size fits all" and the Patriots like or don't like players. There is a hard cap and sometimes a guy you want overprices himself for what he gives you.

i heard that Adam Vinitieri felt the same way after the pats didn't want to sign him. Richard Seymour probably feels this way as well.

I think the pats ownership and management have gotten too arrogant for their own good. They think, "The reason you were succesful was because it was our team and our system. Don't go around thinking you had anything to do with it." This might be the reason belichick refuses to upgrade at the coordinator position - to show everyone it's him and not charlie weis or romeo. The team concept that the pats used to preach is long gone.

on another note, kraft has to open up his wallet. don't give me this nonsense about the salary cap - every team finds ways to get around it.

As a fan I’m not concerned if the pats care about the players.

You should take this comedy stuff on the road.

The Pats do care about the players. To an extent. The same extent that they are employees of the company. That being said, the Pats have gone out of their way for some players. Tedy Bruschi and Robert Edwards both come to mind.

Asante making a blanket statement like he did shows why the negotiations never went anywhere and why he's in Philly now and someone else's headache.

Adam Vinatieri wanted to be paid like 3 million a year at the time he was released. And his kicking had been going down. You'll note that he's missed significant amounts of time since getting to Indy.

People like yourself throw out this garbage and offer nothing to support it. Your claim that "BB refuses to upgrade the cooridinator position" doesn't fly because it's well known he wanted to bring Weis back. And there have been reports that he'd talked to RAC about returning as well.

What makes you think that the "team concept" in long gone? Any proof at all?

I have news for you. The Pats spend to the cap every year. And Kraft has no say in it. One of the things that Kraft agreed to when BB took over was a hands off approach. Bledsoe used to bend Kraft's ear when Carroll was the coach. And it underminded Carroll. Bledsoe was doing it, to a lesser extent, in 1996. And it's one of the things that BB asked Kraft to not get involved in. And Kraft agreed. It was one of the things that got Bledsoe (and Ron Borges) upset with BB.

BTW, since you haven't been keeping up with the league this year, there stands to be NO CAP next year.

They care about their players at least as much as any other franchise...Kraft doesn't even dock players when they retire. He's been known to pay them when they lose their career to a non patriots football injury, or their life saving a drowning friend.

There will be a lot of unemployed players whining about how their present team didn't care about them in less than a month unless they take a pay cut. Deion Branch could be one of them. Asante will be too one of these days. He can just ask Brian Dawkins. Lawyer Milloy has been cut by every team he's ever played for (except for the Seahawks who I believe only gave him a one year deal). Ditto Ty Law (who asked to be cut from his wheelchair so he could spend six months wheeling and limping around to try and get someone to pay him what we offered. I think last year after spending 5 seasons with 3 teams (including one year stints with one twice) he finally broke even...on the 4 year extension we insulted him with). I don't think any of them give a damn about him while here he will still end up in our HOF.

Asante of "Sht I dropped the easiest INT ever and blew SB42 along the way" fame can **** a big fat one.

IIRC Vinateiri was franchised, and/or made top 5 $ for 2 years?
Brady gets paid pretty well, and they are near the cap.

I remember that Indy had a boatloads tied up in offense only, and they couldn't win anything......

I personally think you pay your BEST help what it will take to keep them, and spread the rest around appropriately.

It is true that when people leave New England they become all stars and set the league on fire. Player afte player. What about all those sacks Seymour had this year??!! Amazing. And did you see Asante's effectiveness ranking? He was way up there, ranked in the 30s, and look at his interceptions. He is right on Terrel Buckley's career path. You must be especially impressed with all that Deion Branch and David Givens have accomplished. It certainly is amazing.

Ty Law got burned badly. His poor kids had less to eat all because of Ty's greed. If he had taken the deal, he would have made a ton more money, but Ty knew best.

If it wasn't for the fact that Seattle gave up a #1 to get him, Deion would have been out on his ear ages ago.
