According to Patriots Football Weekly, a NFL Official Scoring change has resulted in Tully Banta Cain being officially credited with 10.0 sacks for 2009. Banta Cain became just the 7th player in Patriot franchise history to have 10 or more sacks in a season. Tully Banta Cain just narrowly missed the top 10 NFL sack list ( he was 11th ), being squeezed out by Julius Peppers with 10.5 sacks and Ware from Dallas with 11.0 sacks.

Re: Tully Banta Cain 10 Sacks

I believe he and Mike Vrabel are the only guys in the BB era with the Pats to record double digit sacks in a season.

You are correct Mayoclinic. Vrabel did it once in 2007. ( Before that you would have to go back to McGinest, who did it once in 1995, and Tippet in 1987 ! ).

Not quite sure of the relavance of his 10 sacks, If memory serves me correct most of these sacks came in bunches in games we had in hand.

He was pretty un remakable for the entire season. Pats need some serious help at OLB, Banta Cain is a situational player at best.

If nothing else, it just feels like a nice milestone. At least it is a milestone that's harder to obtain than a 1,000 yards rushing or receiving in a season.

He was the only player creating consistent pressure from the pass rush for the Patriots. Whilst acknowledging a need to upgrade the linebackers on the whole, to call a 10 sack season unremarkable is ridiculous.

Imagine what having a Seymour in front of him could have done for both the pass and run defenses. TBC is definitely a keeper.

And to call a 10 sack performance unremarkable with Burgess as the passrushing DE is beyond ridiculous.

Now everyone is on the TBC bandwagon.:rolleyes:I seen this before.

He's a consistent pass rusher. The only one that we had this year. I would not be against re-signing him, personally. I guess you think "expendable"?

He is but i would sign him under low value.I wanna get a DE through the draft in the first round.I love that kid from tcu. Jerry Hughes.

yes 5 of he's 10 sacks came vs the bills a team that give up 46 sacks on the year. but Jared Allen, all so got 7.5 of he's 14.5 sacks vs the packers a team that give up 51 sacks on the year. i don't hear any one calling he's numbers a joke

thats how pass rushers get there sacks in bunches

Jared Allen, are u kidding me?Cain is not Jared Allen.

But the fact that he got more sacks against the porous Green Bay line doesn't mean anything because he's Jarred Allen right?

I certainly hope that the Front Office thinks more of Banta-Cain than this board. But then, I guess you guys are fine with Ninkovich, Crable and a couple of draftees at OLB.

Gotta bring TBC back at the right price.

That's what we fans always say as our UFA's find roster spots on other teams.

Gotta bring TBC back at the right price.

Completely agree. However, I do not want to see TBC in on running downs. He should be in on passing situations. TBC, for everything he did for us this season, is still suspect against the run.
