Bill Simmons "hears" that Moss and AD are gone, BB is "blowing it up"

Marshall, while talented, is NOT the next Moss. Wow, what a leap. It's obvious you cannot grasp the talent of Moss. He is not just a great receiver, his only competition for best ever is none other than Jerry Rice.

Maybe its a leap yeah, but you're still talking about paying less for a 25 yr old who could put up similar numbers to the 34 year old. Randy is a great, we all know it, but the business decision needs to happen at some point. The point I was making was that these were probably the only circumstances under which I wouldn't be crazy mad if it happened this offseason.

Which we all know it won't

25 year old Brandon Marshall is probably the same as 33 year old Randy Moss. It wouldn't completely suprised me if it happened.

However, I still think Viking Randy Moss was the greatest receiver to play the game, I would even take him over Rice.

OK that's reasonable. How much does Marshall cost and would it be a 1 year thing

I'd be shocked. Marshall wants a ton of cash and is a disruptive teammate.

His talent is undeniable no question.

I'll preface this by saying take what he said, as usual, with a large grain of salt. He's much more reliable when it comes to the NBA than the NFL, but here's an excerpt from today's article:

"From what I'm hearing, Belichick is finally and belatedly blowing this thing up: flipping half the roster, dumping Randy Moss and Adalius Thomas, hiring new coordinators (one's already gone), splurging in free agency and either signing or drafting a stud running back to take pressure off Brady. Whether a 58-year-old man can rebuild this franchise AND coach it remains to be seen. I just know it's never been done before."

I don't think anyone would/will be surprised when AD is gone, but personally I'd let Moss play out his contract year.
Can someone explain how BB is splurging in FA in January?

This guy thinks BB may spurge in FA next March, fine. He's entitled to think was he wants. But until March comes, to say BB is splurging in free agency is wrong.

Moss was great while he was here and it would be a little sad to see him go, but I wouldn't mind it. He's getting up there in years and his best asset is his deep speed and he's not getting any younger. I'd much rather have a Marshall-like player who is big, physical, young, has pretty good speed, and works the middle of the field. I'm growing tired of seeing Moss only work the sidelines and go deep.

As far as Adalius, see ya buddy. Never lived up to the hype and won't be sad to see you go.

I'm hoping for a pretty big offseason, and I think we could see some serious slicing and dicing done by BB. After a devastating loss to Indy we went out and got Randy, Donte, and Wes, as well as Adalius and Morris. This Baltimore loss wasn't really like that because we never had the lead, but it was still gut wrenching and sent our shockwaves.

Not a Maroney battle.......for the 1000th time.

Besides, the future awaits :singing:

Name the people who always come up big and those who always come up small...

We won with Branch and Givens, did they "always come up big" I'm pretty sure they were pretty useless in the 2003 game against the Titans. If our defense were bad, then we are one and done. What happens then, history is altered to point out that Branch and Givens were "unclutch" or failures?

Fact is it's a team game, and to win any single-elimination tournament you have to not only have the talent, the desire and the determination, but you have to have a lot of things going right at the right times out of your control.

go away....

Am I misinterpreting something or are David Givens and Deoin Branch considered JAG wide receivers around here? I tend to think they were both A Class who performed.

All of his verbs in that sentence were in the present tense. I don't think he meant for all of them to mean "right now."

Like guys who catch the game "winning" TD pass on 3rd and goal in the Super Bowl? Oh wait...a couple dropped int's, a blown holding call or two, and a helmet catch negated that.

How about a guy who goes for a couple of TD's and 150 plus against the undefeated Colts on the road...Oh wait a defense can't hold a 2 TD lead in the 4th quarter so that that's negated too.

I got it, lets criticize Moss for not having big stats in a playoff game that was 24-0 before he was even targeted for a pass...brilliant.

How do you figure that Brady has it? He's no better in the postseason than he is in the regular season. What about Manning? Does Manning have 'it'?

Like I said, anecdotal evidence aside. I never played football, but I would think it translates to this sport as well - some people embrace pressure (or convince themselves that it doesn't exist or it doesn't matter), while others, for all their talent, do not. If you don't know what I'm talking about, that's fine, my wife doesn't either. Maybe it doesn't translate to football. Even though I root against him, Jeter knows what I'm talking about, so does Welker and Rice - you don't disappear when it gets juicy. This is no knock on Moss. He was obviously injured the end of this year, but I do have reservations as he does appear to be a little needy.

What's Moss on for this year, 11.5mil or something like I'm sure.

If you were to dump and use that money to resign Vince then go after either Jackson or preferably Marshall then I can see the sense.

Otherwise it's not something I'd like to see

Almost $5M of that $11.5M is money the Pats have already paid out and can't get back, so the question is whether or not he's worth the $6.7M or so that they would have to pay him.

It makes sense for Moss really

I stopped being a Viking fan partially because they let him walk but it could work here.

He is a fantastic receiver and I love him playing for us but without Welker and 0 other receiving threats Moss is going to be targeted like never before. Hell I wouldn't be surprised if players like Aiken dropped a ball if they were standing alone.

So trading Moss and bringing in some decent guys to keep defenses from taking away your 1 and only threat does make a little sense.

However if the Pats can come up with just 1 competent WR to compliment Moss than it's a stupid decision

2 $4M receivers would not be better than one Moss.

I couldnt find 2009 WR salaries but just to name a few WRS whogot paid 4mil range or lower in 08

Donald driver
T.J Houz
greg jennings
roy williams
boldin
stokley
austin miles
brandon marshall
reggie wayne
derrick mason
roddy white
steve breaston
hines ward

the list goes on and on - im gonna go out on a limb and say there are some effin quuualllliity WRs for that price and id take two of them over one moss any day - especially character guys like ward who bring in the intangibles and nitty gritty

The fact that you would take Welker over Moss says a lot about your lack of understanding of the NFL. Welker's value is increased a LOT BECAUSE of Moss. Welker is NOT catching 120+ passes in this offense without Moss.

I know the contributions of moss all too well - however your lack of understanding of what welker brings to the table shows your lack of understanding of football because im sure patriots nation - along with NFL nation would pick wes over moss for their team any day because wes is a good football player who is a leader, tough as nails, doesnt ever put his head down and is inspiring to the locker the room and the guys he plays with - wes has got balls the size of a full grown elephant and makes the tough plays - i think your alone on this one

im not saying that at all but since your so hung up on stats - are you saying kelly washington is better than randy moss?
