Mt. Cody dropping

I know, I know he only plays two downs but maybe the Patriots could draft Cody then Wilfork (sign and trade). There are a lots of holes and we could use the draft picks to reload.

Why does everyone want to trade VW so bad?

I like MayoClinic's suggestion of a possible D-Line of Wilfork - Cody - Warren. That is an absolutely dominant line physically. It would definitely free up the LB's to be able to make more plays and would fill the void left by Seymour.

If Wilfork trimmed down a little and got in better shape I think it could work. That D-Line would be great against the run and would demand a lot of blockers which could free up the LB's to shoot the gaps and blitz a la what the Ravens did to us yesterday.

I don't see it working with that unit, just too fat and slow.

By the end of games those guys would be almost dead, personally I wouldn't want to be the EMT who had to carry their dead bodies off the frozen tundra... but I digress, unless a team came out and said "We are going to run the ball now', kinda like the Ravens did yesterday then that sort of line has no utlity.

My reason for suggesting a trade is only for value, if Cody can do 80% of what Wilfork can do and the Patriots could get a pick in the range of 25-50 for Wilfork then you could end up with a starting guard or 3rd WR or rotational OLB plus 80% of Wilfork.

Alternatively trade Wilfork for Peppers.

there are more important positions to worry about
if we can sign wilfork keep him, i dont think pat fans realize how important he is, how many of you wish we had a asante samuel on the team this year?

plus we just wasted.....err i mean used a pick on brace we should at least see how that works out plus myron pryor surprised us all this year

Couldn't you just sign Wilfork (getting 100% of him) and use pick #22 on a OG or WR or OLB (getting a better player than you could get in the 25-50 range)? Unless you are suggesting that Wilfork is cost-prohibitive, I'm missing your point.

I want to sign a know player like Vince and agree with you.
Cody's weigh scares me. If he somehow gains a few lbs. he could be a lot slower and sluggish in pros' but I may be wrong. I'd pass on him.

Maybe some other team will be duped into drafting his fat ***** right in front of us. Leaving another player that the Pats actually need on the board. Like a DE or an OLB.

The last thing they need is another NT, when there is a gaping hole at RDE. There was no fear of Green at all, alowing th OL to double VW all the time.

It doesn't matter if they bring in the best NT of all time. If there is no presence at RDE and OLB, the opposition can just double/ triple him all day long.

Points for originality, except you half-cooked the meal.

Pennington can't reach Moss (which is more than a little ironic) and Moss will be done by the time Clausen is ready. Moss needs to go.

This will need to be a strong running team until Clausen takes over, so Light and Koppen need to be upgraded.

Add 2 more young receivers (at least one a big red zone target) and you've got something brewing. Not sure what, but it is something.

That alignment would work, only if the Patriots got a big elephant type backer, ala Willie to set the edge on running plays.

Fortunately their are quite a few of those elephant type backers available in this draft. The three I like best are:

Dunlap (1st/2nd round depending on how teams view the DUI incident)
Jorgenson BYU (4th round plus)
Carrington Arkansas State (6th round plus)

All possess the size vs.the run, can rush the passer and could play some coverage,very limited in coverage.

If we draft Cody and resign Wilfork, we can slide big Vince over and use that OLB spot as an elephant backer position. This alignment maximizes our ability to shut down the run and depending on the elephant backer or substitute for third and long, still allow us to generate pressure on the QB.

Why would you do that? 3 slow and 1 really slow lineman, teams would just spread the field. Typically you see two big fat guts and then you set the edges with regular size pass rushers (see the Vikings).

Cody has boom or bust written all over him. IMO. if he is there in the 2nd round sure but not the first.

I would say more bust and less boom. What he can do is pretty obvious. Being dominate at one thing can be beneficial to a team, but for a high round pick you want versatility. I would say he's more of a 3rd round pick, but some team will become infatuated with his size and if he does anything good at the combine it would help get him into the 2nd maybe 1st.
