Re: Our recent draft picks vs the Raven's recent draft picks

This gets better.

Goff has been awful for the Giants.

Awful.

He was okay against he run, but was utterly victimised in the passing game, and that's against the Panthers and the Bears.

You can't be a one trick pony in this defense.

I honestly haven't seen either for more than a few plays this year but know that they are more suited to play against the run and take on guards, something that Mayo is not suited to do. If he is neutralized being tied up with guards than they need to get someone who can handle it and allow Mayo to make plays. As far as one trick ponies in this defense, that would be a step up for some.

Re: Our recent draft picks vs the Raven's recent draft picks

that about says it all. Seau will be 41 in a week or so and he's still playing for the Pats who have nothing better. This season has been a total balls up all round, poor drafting, poor trading, too many players traded away without adequate replacements, Brady firing on 1 cylinder most of the season. When we lost to the Jets it was pretty obvious that we had nothing special to look forward to. We need a QB who can take pressure and still throw accurate ball,Brady obviously can't any more.As we don't actually have much of a running game all the opposition has to do is put up a few points and then get up into Brady's face and the Pats are done.

That's precisely who we need in this 3-4 defense to let Mayo run around and make plays. Also, Brinkley is a good run defender. He gets exploited in coverage, but you can also say the same for Mayo.

Actually, I think Mayo is good in coverage... when he's healthy, which he pretty clearly wasn't this season.

Brinkley is a guy you'd like to have to pair with Guyton, who I see developing into a Roman Phifer type of player.

Also, I'll lay out the Ravens draft picks from 2006 on, the "last few years," as a point of reference.

2009 - Michael Oher [OL] (2nd in RoY voting, likely a perennial Pro Bowler), Paul Kruger [DL], Lardarius Webb [CB] (as good of a chance as any of being a future Pro Bowler).

2008 - Joe Flacco [QB] (starter), Ray Rice [RB] (Pro Bowler in his 2nd year), Tom Zbikowski (starter once Reed retires).

2007 - Ben Grubbs [OL] (Pro Bowler in his 3rd year), Le'Ron McClain [FB] (2-time Pro Bowler in his 3rd year), Marshal Yanda [OL] (starter), Troy Smith.

2006 - Haloti Ngata [DL] (Pro Bowler right now, almost certainly a trend which will continue), Dawan Landry (starter), Sam Koch [P] (starter).

I have no idea who Lardarius Webb is, but if you're expecting Zbikowski to start once Reed retires... ouch.

Re: Our recent draft picks vs the Raven's recent draft picks

He is a very good blocker .

The problem in that play is that Meriweather is slower than Rice and had fear of hitting a player . He is the Maroney of the d# . We should send them to the Pats filial in the Arena Football league or Flag Footbal league

I love it but you're going to get banned soon.

I said Maroney was mediocre (or mediore as it's spelled in the thread title) and got endlessly flamed for it. I said latter round JAG were just as good as him and they lambasted me endlessly.

How's that looking guys? The safety and MLB get blown up on a running play up the middle, can't tackle a 205 pound RB.

"There's your husband, there's your husband" (from the Godfather).

"There's your first round draft pick safety! There's your first round bust!".

Re: Our recent draft picks vs the Raven's recent draft picks

That's it. That's all we're saying. If he stays as is he's a solid role player but certainly not a foundation block.

I think it's too early to make that call on Mayo. He was everything that you could ask for as a rookie. He has been solid this year but not the all-world stud that people expected, however he has dealt with injury, playing SILB instead of WILB, and being thrust into being the leader of the defense perhaps too soon. I would like to see him play WILB and have a solid strong side counterpart, and see how he does after recovering in the offseason, before making any judgments as to whether he will be a solid player or an elite playmaker.

Wait, did you just list Dawan Landry (who was taken in what, the 5th round) as a "good player"? LOL, wait til the resident homers here hear about this! Merriweather (our safety who whiffed on the 83 yard runnign play to start the game) who was taken in the 1st round is a MUCH better value and player. LOL.

Why? So it'll just be you and other homers? "Don't worry guys, this is a rebuilding year!, yeah! That's the ticket!". LOL.

No, because you've consistently been one of the worst and illogical "fans" on this board.

And it's not just me, as I'm fairly sure it's a near-unanimous consensus. You're a terrible poster, and if you really do follow the Patriots, which I doubt, an even worse fan.

I would take Brandon Meriweather over Dawan Landry every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Re: Our recent draft picks vs the Raven's recent draft picks

Ray Lewis made a number of plays today, while Mayo had a hard time getting off blocks and missing on tackles.

Mayo is a solid player and could develop into a stud, but not right now.

I agree with that one. He is a good player, but not dominate like Lewis can be.

You must have trouble reading.

He didn't. He pointed him out as a starter.

As for Meriweather whiffing, it was Wilfork and Mayo being stoned that created the gap. Meriweather almost ran him down, not bad considering Rice is one of the quickest players in the league.

But hey, don't let a thing like facts get in the way of you being a complete troll. Again.

Have you worked out whether you liked our Draft yet by the way?

Or am I asking the wrong face?

What are you talking about?

When did I once say that Landry was a "good player?"

Landry was somewhat of a throwaway pick having been taken so late in the draft, yet he has started alongside Reed during his career when not injured.

I was just listing the top three players, in my estimation, from every draft over the past four seasons, and Landry happened to be the third best pick of that year.

Also, Le'Ron McClain was taken in the fifth round three years ago, and he is a two-time Pro Bowler right now, so I'm not sure why you had to throw in the "(who was taken in what, the 5th round)" comment.

How am I a terrible poster? I offer praise when it's due, logic/economic analysis when it comes to contracts and yes, I jump on the team when it screws up. And I jump on bad posts that offer lame excuses for said screw ups. That's not a terrible poster, that's an honest one.

I lived through the rotten years (mid 70s-late 80s) and was a die hard fan. I'm not going to take mediocrity lying down when there's no reason for it. I was in college during the 86 superbowl when they crapped out. One of my fraternity brothers was from Chicago. How do you think that made me feel?

If this team screws up, I'm going to detail why I think it screwed up, so they can learn from their mistakes.

I'm not mocking you. We had a debate here about Merriweather, our 1st round safety (who whiffed on Rice)...I said other safeties drafted late who were JAGs were just as good. I listed Dawan Landry as one of them. (Except I referred to him as Laron which they of course jumped on as Laron actually WAS drafted high).

You could name about 20 though. How good do you have to be to whiff on runs up the middle?

When Dawan first started wasn't he considered good? I was mocking those who mocked me by saying that you were about to be jumped on.

You'll have to excuse our resident Jets fan masquerading as a Pat.

He actually thought your Landry was taken 6th overall (erm, no, that was Laron Landry, who plays for the 'Skins).

He's a couple of sandwiches short of a picnic.

If Wilfork got stoned, then why are we supposed to sign him to some big fat contract again?

Mayo must be injured as hell, way to rush him back from that knee. But he's not really built to take on 300 pound guards.

Fine, just a misunderstanding then, because Dawan was, again, somewhat of a throwaway pick, and has actually ended up starting next to Reed, unlike LaRon Landry, who was a top five (?) pick overall and obviously had high expectations which he hasn't lived up to.
When Dawan first started wasn't he considered good?
He was very promising in his first two years, and then he suffered a severe injury last season which sidelined him for the whole year, which has obviously stunted his progression quite a bit.

This year, Landry has been getting better as the season has progressed, but he still isn't where he was.

Yeah, I won't pass judgment as I don't post here at all, but LaRon has certainly been more of a disappointment than Dawan.
