OT: Manning named MVP

Maybe I am getting old ( I am) or maybe I am far more settled being a Pats fan since the early 70's, and watching them become a powerhouse with three super bowls, or maybe it is because the dude is actually pretty funny on his commercials, BUT he had a super year and is clearly as deserving of the MVP as a few other guys. If it is even close, he will win, as he has become a living Icon, and is pretty jocular and funny and all that.

When the Pats sucked, I would take pleasure in Hog Hannah winning Pro Bowl Status, same as Haynes. I can certainly understand Colts fans taking pride and pleasure in their QB winning his 4th MVP award.

That it is a regular season award, and he has not been as successful at winning the same award in the Post Season, is also a point of pride and joy for Pats fans and rightfully so, but his Post Season mediocrity? does not dismiss devalue or diminish his regular season magnificence.

Re: Manning Reg Season MVP

I agree about Rivers, but you have to admit, Manning is the ONLY reason his team is in the playoffs. That Jets game made that startlingly clear.

you must remember that most of the other offensive starters (and D) were pulled at the same time, so who is the reason why they lost? Taking out Saturday, Wayne, Clark, etc.? you CANNOT just point to merely one player of MANY that were taked out and say infacticly HE is the reason

Not to mention the fact that the guy that replaced manning was a THIRD string QB, and has never PLAYED a SINLGE snack in his pro career

I guess then your logic follows that when Pitt had their third string QB in against KC and lost in OT with a pic by the QB, that must mean that Big Ben is God:rolleyes:

I think Manning deserved it this year for many of the reasons others have already listed. I felt differently last year and in 2003.

The one reason I've heard and read a lot that is total BS is that he deserved it over "fill in the QB name here" because Painter is worse than that QBs back-up. Polian's inability to sign a quality back-up or choice not to should be irrelevant as to who wins the MVP.

I also found Peter King's year long campaigning where he portrayed Manning as achieving greatness this year without weapons to be totally ridiculous. There are maybe 3 other teams in the league that can argue they have weapons equal to Clark/Wayne.

The Great White Dope wins his 4th regular season MVP and we're suppped to believe he had no say in the "organizational" decision to tank the Jets game and kill a shot at a perfect season?? Not buying it for one minute though Peyton's acting job (the helmit on, the pout on the sidelines) was also MVP worthy. ;)
These awards and the stats that go with them are what Peyton lives for and always has. Manning wanted no part of the pressure that trying to go undefeated would have brought.

Get a life kid. That's completely unnecessary. I'm not trolling, but man, what the hell was that? That's crossing the line with pure arrogance.

You really need to grow up. That's all I have to say.

I think, that Favre deserve MVP title this year.. Why always Peyton????

Good call. Favre went and had, statistically, the best season of his career this year. On top of that, he's got the Vikings as the #2 seed in what has suddenly become a competitive NFC.

Re: Manning Reg Season MVP

Manning's end-of-the-year mail in job should also have been factored into the voting.

That was Polian's mail in job, not Manning's.

Manning should have gotten all 50 votes.

GTFO out of here kid. What he said was 100% true. Manning is a regular season QB and that's what he'll be known for. You're on a Pats board, who needs the life?

How come Brees never wins? I thought he deserved it last season, and should at least get runner up this season.

The pure arrogance is the Colts "organizational" decision to tank the Jets game citing the meaningess nature of regular season records then turning around the very next week and starting Peyton. Wayne. and Clark in a bitter cold snowstorm so the WR's could get their "numbers".
Peyton Manning was quite happy to say bye bye to the undefeated record. His passive response to being taken out of the Jet game says it all. Of course Peyton admits that there were discussions during that week about such a situation.
You really expect us to believe if PEYTON MANNING said to Caldwell and PoliOn "you are not taking me out of that game. We are going for every win this season" that he would have been pulled/allowed himself to be pulled from that game??
NONSENSE!!!
It's crystal clear Peyton never said that to Caldwell and PoliOn.
Brady or Favre or even a Philip Rivers would never have come out of that Jet game unless a victory was well at hand. Peyton came out and came out passively because Peyton wanted no part of the "undefeated" pressure in the playoffs.

Regardless of Polian's late season decisions and Manning's post-season record, the MVP award is given based on a player's performance during the just completed regular season. Personally, my choice would have been Chris Johnson, but even though this is an individual award in the ultimate team sport, the team's won-loss record still seems to have an overriding factor.

Manning had a great year so I don't have a problem with him winning it. However, with there once again not being a clear favorite, I would have thought more votes would have gone to another deserving player like Brees or Rivers (since being a QB is almost a prerequisite.) Manning is certainly not a horrible choice; I just think it should have gone to one of those other three.

That being said, a sincere congratulations to Manning on another fine season and for winning the MVP.

Colts fans are acting like they won the Super Bowl. I guess much like their team, their fans are also about regular season statistics and awards. Hell, I would be too if my team had only 1 SB to its name.

Completely agree. Once he's gone, they're nothing and everyone knows it.

Peyton deserves his...as does the team...who was acknowledged by Peyton. 14-2 versus 13-3. #1 seed versus #2 seed. 6-0 against a much stronger division (oakland and KC were gimmes). 7 4th quarter comebacks. He is more valuable to his team than any other player is to theirs. And of course "value" translates into "wins". How valuable is ANYONE on an 0-6 team?? How valuable are you if your team does not make the playoffs? BTW, #32 run team in the league. Defense much better this year...they won some games for us. I have no problem folks pimping Rivers or Brees...everyone is entitled to an opinion.
