Re: Schefter:Welker Torn ACL/MCL after initial tests

Right now, I'd gladly take him being back in week 8-9 next season.

Very bad news about Welker. He'll definitely be a story throughout the playoffs.

What are the opportunities here? IR and a call-up from the proactice squad or something more exotic? TO is a free agent.

Darnell Jenkins is the only WR on the PS.

Edelman will let BB make WW take his time and not rush.

2006... Patriots lose Rodney Harrison in Week 17
2007... Patriots lose Rosevelt Colvin in Week 12
2008... Patriots lose Tom Brady in Week 1
2009... Patriots lose Wes Welker in Week 17

I know injuries happen, but, ************, man...

Re: Schefter:Welker Torn ACL/MCL after initial tests

Wes, please do not go to Brady's doctor......kidding:)
Brady's doc is one of the best in the business and Tommy is living proof of that. According to Tommy he was ready to go last February. And that was after incurring an infection that he admits was his own fault for pushing himself too soon post op and not listening to the doctor initially.

You are forgetting that they lost Seau in 2007 as well. And Thomas in 2008.

Golden Tate better fall to rd 2.

or Decker from Minnesota..

This from Rotoworld:

ESPN's Adam Schefter and the Boston Globe both report that Wes Welker has been diagnosed with a torn ACL and MCL.
It's the same injury that knocked Tom Brady out for the season in 2008. Unfortunately, Welker won't get the same 16-week head start to rehab. Barring a borderline miraculous recovery, Welker will be a strong candidate to begin next year on the PUP list, which would keep him out until Week 7. Julian Edelman will be the Pats' primary slot receiver in the postseason, and most likely keep the job through the start of 2010. Jan. 3 - 6:37 pm et

Yeah, I didn't want to go crazy citing all the major injuries, just wanted to stick to the ones that stood out to me. But yeah, there's also Maroney last year, Morris the year before that, Harrison last year, Seau in 2006....

I take it personally because I'm a genuine fan of a guy who has given this organization three rings more than I ever believed they'd garner in my lifetime...

Torn ACL/MCL for a slot receiver thats game is based on quickness and cutting ability?

Honestly, I fear that he's not ever going to be the same guy :( at least we have a young guy in Edleman who can do some of the same things.

This is why I hate the Squeelers.
Just read on their board about Wes

I have no sympathy for anything that happens to those cheating pieces of sh&t!

Absolutely horrific news (if true). I have to believe that from the tape, his MCL gave way allowing the ACL to go as well. Either case, I'm just glad we have a world class franchise and training staff to help rehabilitate him.

It's times like this that it's almost impossible to separate the business side of the NFL from the emotional ties. While I agree that an Edelman + "name your favorite FA second receiver" might be equal to Wes's production, there's no way to replace him as a teammate and representative leader. I cringe at the thought of having to watch a Pat's game in 2010 with Welker wearing street clothes......

This is what I think too. If it's the same injury as Brady I fear for his career. It's such a tough injury to come back from and lots of people thought Brady would never be the same. Now compare a qb that was never very mobile to a quick slot reciever thats always making cuts. This sucks.

Boston Globe is also reporting ACL and MCL per sources.
