Spotlight: Jarvis Green

Trying something a little different here, I was thinking of a weekly spotlight on a Patriots player, maybe it will catch on maybe it won't. This week: Jarvis goes home.

I was lucky enough to meet Jarvis Green last week at a hockey game in Lowell at the Tsongas Arena. He was busy signing a thousand autographs so an autograph, handshake, thank you and good luck was about all I had time for. Jarvis is one of my favorite Patriots, not because he is an all pro defensive lineman but because when Marquise Hill died tragically, Jarvis took on the role of Godfather for Marquise's son, Ma'shy. This is a big reason why he is one of my favorites. He is a first class human being.

I know he has been practicing and I get the feeling he will be ready to go on Monday night in New Orleans, his hometown. The defensive front will be that much better when he returns. I been hearing a lot of ''Green has done nothing'' this year from Pats fans but I never see him do anything bad out there either. His job is to hold his ground and stop the run 1st, his position is not glamorous but he has a lunch pail work ethic and rarely makes mistakes. It would be great to see him back out there monday night, maybe he could force a fumble or get a sack on Brees in front of his family. That would be a triumphant return.

This is the last year of his contract I believe and I doubt the Patriots will retain him, my guess is some other team will overpay for his services next season.

Jarvis runs the Jarvis Green Foundation, dedicated to providing support to single working mothers in disadvantaged, low-income areas and to supporting victims of Hurricane Katrina.

ps - I would like a little input for next week's spotlight AT Miami, Welker is an obvious choice as well as Vince Wilfork.

I like this idea of spotlighting a player each week.

Green is a solid player. I know he's not a Pro Bowler, but he provided depth and filled the gap quite well whenever Seymour was injured. When a Pro Bowler can't play and you don't lose much, that's a valuable asset.

What he did after Hill's death is really nice as well.

I do think this is Green's last year here. The extension he signed guaranteed a decent price for a back-up who could start, but the free agent dollars out there will be way more than we can pay him now. I wish him the best, and hope we can get another ring before he leaves

Didn't he also take a handful of local High School kids to his home town and have them rebuild/remodel a kitchen for a old lady? Or was that someone else?

If so that is another really great thing he does!

Yes i believe your right, i read somewhere about it and Jarvis is very handy, i think he has a major in construction.
