Vollmer needs to stay at LT

Vollmer has youth on his side. No better way to learn than to be thrown in the deep end.

And Deus.. stop deflecting the blame from Maroney all the time. He has to make the plays. It's not always the o-lines fault. That said, I'm not displeased with his performances of late.

Guys a stud, he is playing way to good to be replaced. I think he can be the best tackle taken this past draft, thats saying a lot to considering the high number of players taken in that position in the first round.

I agree. He did a great job against Freeney.

Take away his goal line fumble, and i thought Maroney was doing ok in the game.

Unfortunately, we cant take away that fumble on the goal line. I wish we could. And because of that, last night he definitely gets an F- from this kid.

Ive been here, I knew he was good once I seen him play VS Ten. But the way he played tonight was awesome. Feel bad for Light but glad we drafted this dude.

I also feel bad for every hit Brady took over the years from the blindside...so it all evens out in a way for me if Light helps solidify the interior of the line or outcompetes Kaczur. :)

As bummed out as I was from the way the game ended, I just wanted to pop in and give Vollmer some major props. Did a helluva job with Freeney last night. Considering his age and limited experience it was a yeoman's job and he's just going to get better.

I also like the possibility of moving Light to Right replacing Kaczur.

Vollmer didn't do anything tonight that Light doesn't do better.

I don't see how you can say that.

Light has played well against Freeney in the past, I agree, but it's hard to imagine that Light would have done a better job. Freeney got no sacks and seldom generated any effective pressure. Vollmer got some help, but Light would have too.

Light is 32 and has been inconsistent this year. Vollmer is a rookie and can only get better. He looks like a young Michael Roos out there, who became a pro bowler in his second year. He is tougher, more physical, and more punishing than Light.

What we need is better RT play. Kaczur got schooled by Mathis in the 2nd half when the Pats reverted to the shotgun and got predictable. Move Light to RT when he comes back and leave Vollmer at LT. Kaczur and LeVoir are excellent backup tackles.

Vollmer should absolutely stay at LT. Move Light to RT.

haha I'm down with LIGHT TO RIGHT as well

I vote for him staying at LT tackle, i don't recall Light ever handling Freeny as well as Vollmer did.

Last night was the first real test of Vollmer and he passed very well. Prior to last night, Vollmer really hadn't faced anyone. But last night he handled Freeney very well.

I still don't know if he should stay at LT when Light returns or continue to groom him to take the job elsewhere. Belichick is better suited to make that decision.

Kaczur reminded me of Max Lane last night

My man Herr Vollmer ist fantastich!

I've had an eye on this kid since September and he has really impressed me with how quickly he has adapted and how well he contains/dominates pass rushers. Brady's jersey stays cleaner and he gets more time to throw when Vollmer plays LT is the bottom line.

Yes Kaczur got abused in the second half of the Colts game, but Vollmer can't play 2 positions at once! I'm in favor of keeping Vollmer in the starting lineup and would like to see how Light would do at RT where his limited athleticism won't be as much of a factor.

With the way that Vollmer dominated in his first few starts and the way he shut down Freeney, I think it's about time we recognized that he's a legit starter quality LT in the NFL. And he has the potential to get even better!

September? Pfffft.

Check out the Draft forum for who spotted him whilst he was still in College

I'm with those who say I don't care if he stays at LT with Light moving to RT, or just replaces Kazcur at RT. I'll let Bill decide which setup works better, I just want both of these guys on the field together most of the time.

I like Kazcur overall, I think he's decent, which just makes having him available for depth even better.

I agree with you, but few are listening.

Vollmer was given help and looked fine. Light has been a fine LT. For me, I am fine with either at the moment, although my preference with OTBE is to play the starter when he comes back from injuries.

While, I am fine with Vollmer at LT, I do NOT understand why anyone would want Light as a RT. He would probably be better suited to being a blocking TE than being a RT. LG is alos an option, expect that we have a probowler at LG. Kaczur is a much better RT than Light could dream of being, especially at this point when RT would be a completely new position for Light. The team COULD have decided to give Kaczur much more help. But the reality is that Mankins is much better than Neal at giving help and the TE or RB help was much more needed on Brady's blind side rather than on the right side.

I think the play I remember most was Freeney using a spin move and making Vollmer look like a turnstile. Of course, Mankins chipped him before he could do any damage.

Vollmer didn't do anything tonight that Light doesn't do better.

Light's not going to be happy about any move to right tackle or guard, as it will hurt him substantially in his upcoming contract negotiations. Then again, he'll be even more unhappy about being benched. With a different player than Matt Light, this would likely get ugly. Light's a consummate professional, so I would expect him to avoid histrionics or public negotiation, but there's going to be a problem if he doesn't get his LT job back.

I agree that Vollmer has to play, and he has much more upside than Light at LT. I would expect them to bring Light back slowly from his injury so they have more time to assess Vollmer's developmental trajectory.

I also am not a big fan of Kaczur, as I think he's very inconsistent and lacks functional strength for RT. In fact, he's probably a better LT than an RT, and to me he's an ideal swing tackle.

As for Light moving to RT, keep in mind that while he would see less of the agile Freeney types, he would face a much stronger set of DE's. His drive blocking will likely be less effective than it has been at LT, and he'll be challenged by more bullrushers. It's not guaranteed that he'll succeed or necessarily be an improvement over Kaczur. Similar comments pertain to uncertainties about Vollmer being moved to RT.

Agreed on all counts. Which is why it's best to let the man who knows more about all of it and them just work through whatever decision he makes. I know that chaps some fans, but for me it is what it is. In the final analysis I don't think Bill will let anyone's contract or draft status impact his decision. He will play the guys he believes give him the best chance to win each week for a variety of reasons.

When Matt Light gets back to 100%, I would love to see what a Light, Mankins, Koppen, Neal, Vollmer line looks like in a full game.

Vollmer has been impressive and looks like a long-term binky on the O-line for the foreseeable future.
Kudos, Sea-Bass!
