accordin to ESPN INSIDER: pats, ravens could draft tebow

Yes Tebow is a great leader, a hard worker, and a good college QB for the system he is in. He seems like a good person who will do whatever it takes to win and a winner.

However all of that stuff is moot when looking at him talent wise. When looking for a QB in the draft I want a guy that is a pocket passer like Brady or Manning or Rivers. I don't want a guy that plays in a college spread offense where he runs the ball almost as much as he throws the ball. You can say he will adjust to a pro offense, but I don't think he will. If you watch him play he doesn't even throw tight spirals on half of his throws and the ball just kind of hangs up there in the air. You also have to look at his throwing motion, which is almost David Garrard-like. He brings the ball back below his waist, then brings it up, and then throws. That motion will not be effective in the NFL. I believe Gary Danielson pointed this out yesterday vs. Georgia.

I just can't see using a 1st or 2nd round pick on a project QB when we have at least another good 5-6 years out of Brady and when there are bigger needs on the team.

Big Gators fan here.
I love Tebow, but with that said, I can't see how he'll play NFL QB. As mentioned, his throwing motion is awful, a turnover waiting to happen every time he drops back.
He doesn't have good vision once he steps up in the pocket. He immediately looks to run vs. finding the open man when defenses step up on his movement.

He's not THAT fast. For a qb to run in the NFL, he has to be fast, elusive, with the ability to change direction quickly. Tebow relies on strength to make guys miss, which is great if he's a passer like Roethlisberger, but not for a guy who has been making his living as a run threat.

Hopefully with a title this year, he'll go down as one of college football's greatest, but for the NFL, I could see him as a Dallas Clark type receiver if he's got the hands for it, or a Wildcat option if that offense is still viable in a year or 2.

........whom are you talking to ...........?i couldnt find a post which said "in the first or second pick" ..........
maybe you should THINK and learn how to read (maybe like 20 times) before you comment.........

Was there even a complete sentence in there?

If you're looking to an answer to your question, read your first post in this thread (without the unnecessary "..............."):

"but wouldnt tebow be like the 1st or 2nd pick this year?............ "

I'm with you on that one. I don't think his future is at quarterback. He simply takes too many chances with his body to be an effective quarterback. He won't last a full season with that kind of play.

If he does have good hands, he could develop into a good Tight end. He has the size and speed. Unfortunately, the Jackson Jaguars seem to be eying him as a quarterback. Sad, but let's hope they are only bluffing for his sake.

He runs kind of upright, so at FB, he might not last more than a few hits.

At the Georgia game, he reiterated again that he wants to be a QB in the NFL.

LOL! Thanks, you just proved you are STUPID.

From what you've said, winning in college football is easy. All you have to is run around like a chicken with your head cut off, right? Why don't you have a Heisman trophy? Apparently winning multiple awards, national championships, and leading the number one ranked team in the country is a joke.

You're just another moron that has no idea what he's talking about.

Ok "Mr been here for a year with your whopping 62 posts", you're winning alot of friends here with your insults and your football knowledge; you're a regular fountain of knowledge, could fit all of it in a thimble, or better yet, your jock strap, size boys regular, ages 10-12.

And you're making a total douchenozzle out of yourself too.

Great job assclown.

Couple of thoughts from another Gator fan:

- Tebow's really struggled with his throwing at times this year. Part of that is that his WR's are having a tougher time getting open. That said, I think he's a better passer than many give him credit for. He throws a very good deep ball, he shows touch and accuracy, and he can throw it through a brick wall when he wants to. Yes, he's a little erratic... and yes, he really needs some work on his mechanics. The good news is that he's smart and he's teachable. He's not a Sanchez/Ryan/Flacco who will start from Day One. He's a work in progress who can help in certain situations for two or three years before he's ready to play full time.

- Since when is having a quarterback who can make plays with his legs considered a bad thing? And how many are better equipped to handle it than Tebow? But at the same time, I'm pretty sure he won't be running as often or in the same manner at the next level.

When you can't get it out of their head NOT to take off and try to make something happen at the first sign of trouble, that's when.

Just ask Young, Vick, Jackson, McNab, McNair (God rest his soul), etc, etc.

But don't tell sbpatfan, the mensa candidate/rocket scientist/brain surgeon/douchebag that he is..........

How many Qbs have had to revamp their throwing motion, and gone on to be successful in the NFL?
How many Qbs have had his type of throwing motion and been successful in the NFL?
Unless he can grow into a passer who has the ability to escape, his current style of play won't translate well.

I will agree on the Gator WR issues this year though. Riley Cooper is a great possession receiver, but doesn't really get downfield fast enough. Hernandez is a stellar TE, but not a stretch the field guy. He's working with small RBs, and doesn't have the home run guy like Harvin was last year.

As a Gator fan, I hope Meyer has some WRs and RBs in the pipeline for Brantley.

No go on Tebow. He's a virgin...what would he talk about with Brady? But in all seriousness, what kind of competitor is someone not trying to score 24-7? Is he playing "Soap in a prison shower" ?

I do not think the WR's are the problem, I think it is the routes and patterns are horrible and lack sophistication. Because of that Tebow is pulling the ball down and running rather than risk throwing it into small windows.

You really want to put the two Irishmen in that company? McNair was a freaking MVP of the league, and as primarily a passer. McNabb is also definitly a pass-first quarterback.

*shrug*

More or less the same routes and patterns that Harvin and Murphy were running last year, right?

On some of the base plays maybe, and maybe for Murphy, but they were really creative in the different things they did for Harvin.

And I don't see that creativity this year, plus last years running attack appeared more effective which brought 8 and 9 to the box (ie: the Ole Miss game)

This year I see the Z WR running a ton of go routes and the X WR running mostly very basic slants, curls and buttonhooks.

Most of the crossing routes seem to be run by the TE's.

If Florida is running any combination routes as in previous years they are so badly out of whack, I can't tell that they are combination routes.

The scheme seems very limiting to me and I think opposing defenses have adjusted to it. They may not have the personnel to stop Florida, but they know what is coming.

Seriously, Tebow's play of late should put to rest any hope of Tebow playing NFL QB. If any team drafts him sooner than the 3rd or 4th round, they're crazy.

His decision making is really shaky lately, he's not leading his team on long drives to seal games, his throwing still sucks.

Down the field he's inaccurate, his motion is too long on short passes, and he's taking a lot more sacks lately despite having a good amount of time to make a decision.

I seriously don't know if Florida will be able to take down Bama and/or Texas with him playing this way. If the Gator's D has a bad game, they're effed. Luckily, their D has been lights out all season.

South Carolina used Norwood as a "spy" last night and forced Tebow to beat them with his arm. And he did throwing 3 TD passes. But if South Carolina had anything resembling a QB, then South Carolina wins that game.

I think a lot of Tebow's problems in the passing game are scheme oriented and mechanical. He looks run first and then pass second and that screws up the read progression.

Bottom line is Tebow has a chance to show scouts he can be a drop back passer in the all star games and if he does not get it done there, then his draft position will be a disappointment in terms of where he thinks he should go.

I didn't see the game, but that's interesting. How did Norwood look?
