And I'd be mildly concerned that if he had better body control and footwork he'd have at least broken up the play, but hopefully that will come. Of course he may have over run the route, we'll never know since even Phil Simms, who I've heard mistate things from time to time, wouldn't have any way to know that.

I've seen Peyton Manning make mistakes even when he's perfectly healthy (I think that's why the Colts only have one ring in his decade) but don't tell anyone or they'll think I'm trying to make excuses that Brady is somehow both elite and human.

Brady talked about this pick in a post game interview. He didn't see Talib. He blew the read. It happens.

It's much more concerning that he underthrew yet another 'really' deep pass.

Plusses & Minuses

+ Welcome to the NFL Mr Tate!
+ Merry is on track for a Pro Bowl season
+ Kudos to all the SSs for shuting down Winslow
+ Priah is a playah
+ TBC is having a FINE season
+ Everybody's loser for the 3rd WR did well today. Nice game Mr Aiken. Very Gaffney like
+ Welker contnues to amaze
+ A quiet good season for Watson

- Brady forcing the ball or missing the double coverage on Moss on the EZ
- Mankins' brain was not present for the game
- Run game ineffective even with Connoley as a blocking FB
- Not a great punting day
- #28 didn't turn and look for the ball. A coachable moment for the rook

you said merry is on track for a pro bowl season who is merry ? im not good with all the nick name's

butler should have turned his head and broken up the pass on that TD but it was rookie mistake, no big deal. he got it together and got a pick on the next drive. plus chung looked good out there, I don't think Josh Johnson will try and run towards him again :D

brady would have had to make a perfact throw to get the ball to him and thats not on tate brady should have never throw that ball to him

but i do like tate i think he can become a biger part of the O in the next few weeks

The problem was that Tate was a late 2nd read by Brady.Moss on a sideline squareout was primary.
If the play was to Tate,he beat the safety,to the inside, like a rented mule.He had no chance to break it up,because he was already 2 yds past his man.If the play call had been to Tate,it would have been a TD.

Wes Welka now has 46 catches to lead the NFL in receptions, provided the Giants Smith doesn't have more than 4 catches tonight. Not bad considering Wes missed 2 games and has seen a lot of double coverage.

Actually, my perspective is fine, and it's one that's been shared by the Patriots all season long, as evidenced by their own pre and post game comments about each game, and by the analysts who cover the team both nationally and locally. I'm not a homer and I'm not a Chicken Little. I never have been, and that's not going to change. You've sold out to the team, as is your right, although I miss the old MoLewisRocks who was capable of objectivity.

I haven't sold out to anyone. I've always been objective. I've also long been told I'm fairly pragmatic. Your problem has always been rooted in a need to prove superior intellect to this board even if it isn't directly related to what occured on the football field.

They all make mistakes. Most of them we never even see or ignorantly misinterpret. All the championship teams did. And yet we won. At the end of the day all that matters is that we make enough plays to win. They won't win every championship or game even, but more often than any other team we have won enough. They don't always do it my way. I realize that isn't their goal. Sometimes it's freakin' ugly. Doesn't matter. Like Junior says, it's a journey and I relish it season after season. That's all there is, and if you're looking for something else you're in the wrong place... I admire what they have done and continue to do. I've learned a lot just observing them. I'm entitled to my opinion for sure, but at the end of the day I'm not so full of myself I actually believe they could learn anything constructive from my or any patsfan's deepest thinking on the subject. I think it's sad that more fans here somehow can't grasp that and just enjoy the journey instead of spending entire seasons debating how badly it may end and whose fault it will be...

The only obvious problem here is what it always is, polarizing kneejerk over reactions.

Anyone watching MVP designate Drew Brees self destructing today?? Bears just paid Jay Cutler $20M and guaranteed him $30M and they're down 31-3 to the Bungles. JETS were DOA last week and our old friend 93 was predicting an Oakland playoff run. His truly pathetic (he's the benchmark) QB has mercifully finally been benched. The Cowboys and Falcons spent most of the first half swapping turnovers. Even the great Brett Favre got stripped twice today for TD's and lost to a team whose QB barely completed 50% of his throws...

Honestly, some of you need to do something to develop perspective whether it be watch more games or watch less and get out or something. It's a 16 game season and if you live and die on the outcome of every play in every game you end up ruining the experience for yourself and in a case like this an entire community. And there is really no difference between doing that to be perceived as no homer be your issue with a Brady led team or one led by his backup...

+1

This team has already overcome key injuries and Brady is playing a little better all the time. QBs throw picks from time to time. Maybe we are not the best team in football at the moment but I think we can be.

I don't post to show any intellectual superiority. I post to talk about football with others who like the game. Frankly, I prefer it when great posters like Box, Unoriginal and many others post a lot, so that I can just read their stuff and talk seriously about the game. You used to be able to break down the game objectively, pointing out problems as well as strengths. You haven't been the same since you got burned out on the board and went away for a while. Now, you can't handle it when even the slightest bit of questioning of the team occurs. Well, I'm sorry, but I refuse to go in the tank for the team. When I think I see an issue, I'll point it out. That's part of what these boards are for, after all.

I think it's sad that you've come to equate discussing the moves of the team, on a discussion board, with a feeling that the front office should be taking all of its cues from those posts, as if those of us discussing the game don't realize that we have a different, generally inferior, perspective as the outsiders we are.

Or, to use your words in a summary sentence.... When it's "freakin' ugly", I'll continue to opine/point out that I thought it was "freakin' ugly", just as I'll continue to opine/point it out when I think it's a thing of beauty.

Indeed. The guy means so much to the team.

Better Brady throw his picks in a game like today's than against a good team.

Imho, the picks were plain stupid. The redzone pick was bad because Moss is 6'4" tall and has a good vertical leap yet Brady got too soft with it, not even giving his man a chance to catch it.
The deep ball was underthrown, and as usual with his deep balls of late, he's waiting so long to try and hit his man, giving safeties the chance to cover.

He also missed a sure TD on 3rd & short right before the half on the same drive as the penalized fake punt attempt. He went to LoMo for the 1st, but had a man wide open at the top of the set for a sure TD over the middle. He never even looked his way.

A brilliant analysis in hindsight from your easy chair...

Exactly. The Titans went tits up on their coach while the Bucs were up for a game. Bad decision by Raheem to punt in Pats territory with the game actually still in reach, not that it woulda happened.

The crowd were booing the hell out of that call. It was just obviously idiotic. Everyone knew that was a seriously dumb move.

I'm not that concerned about it. I think it's just a timing issue with a rookie that didn't have a minicamp, training camp, or preseason to work with him and has only had a week of practice to work some kinks out. It happens, especially in this offense. The first pick was much more concerning given the fact that Brady apparently "didn't see him"... with the exception that Talib was RIGHT in front of Moss.

The 2 holding calls on Vollmer were a little concerning. The announcers were saying he looked a little shaken up from a previous play, so let's hope that was his problem.

I wasn't happy to see them, but those were pretty borderline calls. The guy had already gotten around him and they were both highly visible when he just kind of held and guided the DE. You certainly see a lot worse in the trenches, but having it happen on the outside in full view, I guess the rook has to be a little more clever in his holding. ;)

Good:
We won
The F'n Soldier got F'n Shut Down
Tate looks faster than his college vids led me to believe & did awesome for 1 week of practice
Aiken is faster than I thought & is tough from being a STs guys
Chung plays (downhill) fast and his body has about 3 years of growing left
Prior is a disruptive force rushing, Great pick
TBC is in his ideal setting in our sub-packages
Hit Stick is starting to make a rep for himself
Welker is the best use of a 2nd rnd pick ever(& 6rnd pick too I think)
We're using/developing our depth players more than I can remember, ex. Lockett(like him) was in today, and not just the last minutes

Bad:
Though he did get about 4ypc, LoMo didnt break 50
Warren might be hurt bad
Vollmer & Moss should be fine after the bye, but thats what I hope for
Discipline by O-line
Our directional punter kicks it in the middle
Morris was underrated in the FB role and is missed

I thought it was a rough game until I considered:

  • Short week/long trip.
  • VERY early subbing.
  • Weirdo crowd.
  • The numerous unexpected scores today.

The final point being the biggest... you can never be sure what will happen in the NFL. The Pats seemed to play down to the Bucs a bit today.

After that game I watched the Dolphins/Saints game and was horrified that we have to play both of those fairly beastly teams this year (totaling 3 of our remaining games). A lot of good will come from this game, and thankfully we have smaller/easier questions than many of the teams that played today.
