Broncos’ Dumervil flagged for roughing Tom Brady 3 days before game

Be prepared for more columns such as this one: Broncos’ Dumervil flagged for roughing Tom Brady 3 days before game
Denver Broncos outside linebacker Elvis Dumervil was flagged for roughing New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady Thursday, three full days before the two were set to face one another on the football field.

“I saw Dumervil chasing and sacking me in my dreams,” Brady stated simply. “So I called coach (Bill Belichick), he called the NFL officials office, and they took care of it from there.”

NFL Head of Officiating Mike Pereira confirmed the penalty, citing the NFL’s publicly concerted efforts to protect the league’s signal callers and the quality of the game.

“We don’t want our star players to suffer,” Pereira said. “Let’s face it, this is a quarterback’s game, and whether it’s season-ending knee surgery or scream-inducing night terrors, our quarterbacks need to be protected.”
“I really don’t see what the big deal is,” Brady added.

Dumervil, tied for the league lead in sacks, is expected to be fined up to $15,000 for his perceived actions. Fearing further league punishment, Dumervil declined to comment.

the Pats remind Clayton of the jocks that bullied him in school.

Ironically, bullying (mostly by Redskins worshippers) is what made me a Pats fan. It also leaves me conflicted as to whether to keep my copy of the '07 thrashing, a childhood dream 3 1/2 decades in the making...

All the hate is honey-sweet to me...

Come on.

That was pretty well done.

Top teams always get their share of jealousy - there is nothing I dislike more than the angry pinheads that frequent ESPN/PFT message boards - shouting abuse, witless namecalling etc.

But if its done with a little wit and intelligence then its a whole other ball game.

This was pretty funny.

The picture is pretty funny.

And while I'll argue the point with trolls that come here at the end of the day this is a pretty easy issue to deflect. Just ask them if this is the first ticky tacky penalty in the history of sports or if Brady was the star quarterback to get a preferential call. You'd never see someone like Michael Jordan get anything like that. Screw em.

The jets fans I have met in my life are easy to ignore so I'm quite happy to keep having funny stuff like this printed and keep ignoring them

Aren't you in the UK? I thought people over there were generally brighter than over here... or did you meet these clowns over here?

Good knowledge

Spent a lot of time over your side of the lake as a kid in the NE area and upstate NY and still have family in Boston and Cooperstown I visit a lot

Not dealing with them on a daily basis does make things easier tho!

The New England Patriots will be the most reviled team in American sports at least until the day that both Tom Brady and Bill Belichick are finally gone from the scene. Much of it has its roots in jealousy. This article is only the latest in a long line of intentionally disingenuous pieces designed to defame this franchise. Anyone (such as me) who thought that when the videotaping stuff faded away, things would quiet down in this department was fooling himself/herself. This longevity associated with the hatred is compounded by 1) the lack of media members inclined to challenge the allegations of the haters and an organization (the Patriots) which is similarly disinclined to defend itself. The stream of this garbage has been, and will be, endless. Get used to it.

MUCH of it? In my opinion.....this should read ALL OF IT!!!!! Fans of other teams are extremely jealous of the Patriots organization, Brady, Belichick, and our great fans........can't blame them.....we win it all for several years.....set NFL records all over the place......win the most games in a row beating a record that NO one thought would ever fall........and left the doofins old bags smashing their champagne bottles over their heads........and have gone to the playoffs how many times this decades..??? No wonder they are all red ***ed jealous bastards!!!!

Did anyone happen to see the other 4 pictures below the Brady pic? The "Team pretends to celebrate with kicker" one is pretty.... the Serena Williams one had me in stitches.

It could be worse. Look what Buffalo fans have to endure week one. Their QB gets two preferential calls and nothing!!!

Interesting how that happens to 1-3 teams that have not been to the playoffs this decade.

Who would have thought 20 years ago that a call on a pats opponent would be a national scandal?

I fully "get" the Onion and its satirical objectives. Unfortunately, much of the rest of America's nitwits don't.

Maybe true. Check this out.

Poll Results - Now that Walter Cronkite has passed on, who is America's most trusted newscaster? | TIME

Of course one might expect these results because Jon Stewart was included in the poll in the first place. Put in any comedian, cartoon characters name and the result would have the same. Says more about the peoples trust in journalism. I'd say even sports journalism too. If the poll was who is the leader in Football reporting: ESPN, Onion sports, Si etc. I'd probably pick the ONion.

I saw it on the Internet. It must be true.

My favorite article is "Polamalu-esque Puppy Dominates Puppy Bowl."

That Brady picture caused me to run into some sarcastic but funny (and favorable for the pats) remarks about the Jets game.

The good news is that this stuff is pretty funny.

The bad news is that this Sunday someone could probably take a chain saw to Brady without getting a flag.

That picture is pretty funny...but I also have to add that at some point in the last few years one or two writers started for the Onion who really dislike the Patriots. The handful of stories involving them have included some very unfunny bits ripping the Pats and celebrating the Super Bowl loss...not something to be care about, really, but it is strange to see the Onion doing that: putting heckling over humor.

Overall, there have generally been quite a few pieces in the past year or so that have been unfunny and coarse, about many topics. Perhaps a change of attitude on the part of new staff? Too bad.

Yeah, funny article and all, but this kind of thing isn't done about other teams. Like this wouldve made perfect sense to do after week 1 about Trent Edwards. I guess we're supposed to take it as a compliment, but it just keeps pissing me off more and more.
