Taylor could be gone for awhile: Reiss

BJ would have performed MUCH BETTER if he was the RB to go to. GIANTS had 3 equal options and split the carries.

No, the Giants did NOT have 3 equal options to go to. Jacobs is their primary back. Ward was their 3rd down back. Bradshaw was the 4th. They also had Reuben Droughns on that team..

Its amazing how you just make things up and pretend like people won't question them.

Is Sanders known as one of the greatest RBs to play the game?..yes

Just like Brett Favre has thrown the most picks by a future HOFer doesn't mean he won't be considered one of the greatest ever.

Its not what you do in terms of losing yards or throwing INTs,Its how significant you were as a player in getting your team to win ball games.

Guys like Brett Favre and Barry Sanders have some negative stuff about their resume but that does not stop them from being considered great.

Maroney in 4 years has done little positive to make an impact on this team winning games is what many of us can say.

For once in the BB era before it ends I hope we have a game breaking RB,We would simply be unbelievable to stop.

I could have sworn that the Patriots went 16-0 with a running back tandem of Maroney and Morris, and that Maroney was the team's #1 running back during that time.

when was his last streak of 50-60yds plus of running? How many games in a row was it?

In 2007 games 1-3 Maroney ran for 72, 77, and 103 yards on 54 caries (an average of 4.67 YPC and 84 YPG, which would project to 1367 yards over a full 16 game season). The he got hurt and missed 3 games with a groin injury - so he's "made of glass", just like Fred Taylor. He came back and was off in his first game (31 yards on just 6 caries, 5+ YPC average; groin injuries are notorious for being nagging and lingering injuries which take a long time to fully heal), then ran for 75 and 59 yards on 29 carries in his next 2 games (4.62 YPC average). He was used to a limited degree in the next 4 games because of injury (no more than 13 carries per game), before running for 104, 156 and 46 yards in his last 3 games on (average 5.2 YPC). The 46 was against the Giants, who have a tough run defense. In game 1 of 2008 he ran for 51 yards on 10 carries against KC, with an injured shoulder that would put him on IR for the rest of the season. He hasn't had more than 10 carries in a game since then.

Maroney has suffered torn rib cartilege, a groin injury, and a shoulder injury in 3 years. He's been banged up, partly because he runs hard. Fred Taylor is the poster child of the talented RB who has missed lots of time because of injuries. Maroney has never hesitated to put his body on the line for the team.

One thing that I find really annoying is when someone makes a post with actual data, and it gets totally ignored by people who want to continue to spout BS without regard to the facts. I posted this way back in post 79, and no one's bothered to mention it in 60 posts since then:

Maroney's first year (2006) he never got more than 19 carries a game. He ran for over 100 yards once (against Cincinnati for 125 yards on 15 carries), and finished with a very respectable 745 yards rushing on 175 carries for a 4.3 average, and 6 TDs, in 14 games. He had 22 receptions for 194 yards, including catches of 33, 34, 41 and 69 yards. Maroney split duties with Corey Dillon, who had 812 yards rushing in a full 16 games, with 98 yards in his best game, for a 4.1 YPG average.

Maroney's second year (2007) he missed 3 games but ran for 835 yards on 185 carries for a 4.5 average and 6 TDs, including a 59 yard TD run. That projects to 1027 yards and 8-9 TDs over a full season. He had only 4 completions but had 116 yards receiving, with receptions of 37 and 79 yards, the latter the longest offensive play of the year for the Pats. Only twice did he get over 20 rushing touches in a game, both against the Jets (20 and 26). He had 3 100 yard rushing games, including 2 out of the last 3 games (104 yards against the Jets, and a career best 156 yards on only 14 carries against Miami).

In 2008 Maroney rushed for only 28 attempts while injured before being placed on IR. He never got over 10 rushing attempts in a game, and he didn't have a reception.

So far in 2009 Maroney hasn't gotten more than 7 rush attempts a game, with 27 total carries. He's had 3 receptions.

Maroney has rushed for over 70 yards 10 times (4 times in 2006 and 6 times in 2007). The Pats are 10-0 in those games.

The statistics are fairly clear over the 2006-2007 seasons. Maroney makes big plays. Get him enough touches, and get the ball in his hands (preferably with some space) and good things will happen. And the Pats win games when he touches the ball.

Maroney was on IR most of last year. Of course he's rusty. He needs work to get back his form. He won't do it on 6-7 runs a game. But unless he's injured, there's no reason to believe that getting him the ball won't result in big plays.

The data is clear. Maroney in 2006-2007 was a big play producer and a quality back for us, even while fighting injuries. Then he went on IR, and he's been a non-factor since. If he's too injured to run then he should be put on IR. Otherwise, he should be given a chance to work himself back into his 2006-2006 form.

For the record, here's Law Firm's track record to date:

- 29 rushes for 275 yards, a 3.7 average
- 1 game (out of 4) with over 50 yards rushing. Maroney had 14 games of 50 or more yards rushing in his first 28 games.
- 1 run over 25 yards.
- 4 catches for 27 yards.

Boy, is that impressive.

I could have sworn that the Patriots went 16-0 with a running back tandem of Maroney and Morris, and that Maroney was the team's #1 running back during that time.

Yeah because we went 16-0 because of maroney's record breaking touchdown season...... O right.

Does anyone ever talk about a running game in a year that Brady threw for over 4,000 yards and 50 TDs and Moss with his record breaking TDs?,I think Brady,Moss and Welker are responsible for the offense of 2007 the running game was a grain of sand on the beach.

So what you are telling me is that EVERY great RB in NFL history had a GREAT OL in front of him...I STRONGLY have to disagree- Ask HOFers like Barry Sanders,Walter Peyton and Earl Campbell what kind of OL they had but found a way to makes plays,I am not comparing HOFers to Maroney becuase its not fair to those who were great but you see what I mean, even future HOFer like our own Fred Taylor didn't always have a great OL in Jax to run with.

Nothing like making sh!t up. No where did I say ANYTHING about every great RB in any way shape or form. But we are talking about Maroney. Not the ELITE. And you also clearly didn't read what was said. I said that neither Gore nor Peterson would run as well. I didn't say they'd stink. Unlike you, I am not putting Maroney in the same category as Peterson or Gore. However, what those O-line were, were consistent. Not like the Pats O-line. They are very inconsistent in their run blocking.

Also, it would be very hard for me to ask Walter Peyton ANYTHING since he's dead.

Great RBs ,heck even good RBs find a way to make yardage when there is none in front of them,They juke, they bump off defenders, they push off, they bump off, hell they do whatever it takes to keep the chains moving and thats what seperates the men from the boys.

Maroney has done that also. Just not consistently. If you want to complain about that, great. I think many a 24 year old RB has those sorts of issues.

Maroney too many times stops too long and dances around waiting for stuff to happen,This isn't college where he was able to juke his way around, the NFL is faster, bigger and smarter - In this league you have to man up and fight your way to yardage,it won't come as easy as it was in college sure sometimes you have to wait for your line to open holes but you need the vision and guts to take chances at critical times.

This idea of yours that cut back runners have to "man up" and try and be a POWER BACK is just silly. Does Maroney need to be more patient at times? Yep. But what 24 year old doesn't?

You believe Maroney is something special or believe he will be..I think as well as many here that he is a bust - Unless your name is god you are not guaranteed to be right with everything in your mind that you think is right.

No. I believe that Maroney is better than people give him credit for. So stop with this garbage of putting words in people's mouths.. I think that Maroney, who is only 24, is still developing his game and should be able to stick around this league for awhile if used properly. And I just don't believe he's been used properly. I also don't believe that our run blocking has been consistent enough to get a good gauge on where Maroney is.

As far as hypocrites go,you like other Maroney lovers would laugh, ridicule, degrade, demoralize, insult guys like Maroney if he were a Jet,Colt,Dolphin ect:

I didn't do anything of the sort to Thomas Jones, Leon Washington, Ronnie Brown, Joseph Addai, or DeAngelo Williams. So, please (Please be quiet - edited) with your garbage and pretending like you'd know what I'd say. You don't know a damn thing.

Brady must be a bust also because his stats stunk for the SB...

they werent terrible..... aand he put his team in position to win with what was it like 2 and change left to go. Brady did what he did. I do agree that the O-line was a bust too.

I dont agree with hawkdawg about the whole SB stat but......

The giants are a running team which means our gameplan would be to sellout on the run. Thus limiting jacobs was our #1 priority

The 2007 patriots had the arguably the best single season passing offense of all time. The giants priority wasn't particularly aimed to stop maroney to put it mildly sooo shouldnt maroney have a better game due to that fact alone with his skill set?

flame away....... but Im just sayin

1- BB did not want to admit his BUST in Maroney by cutting him.
2- FAULK is our 3rd down back he takes up RB spot.
3- We have a boat load of players occupying WR and RB

1. Kevin O'Connell?

Your comment was:

My response was that Maroney was the #1 running back for a 16-0 team, one that set the all-time scoring record.

I'm pretty sure that 16-0 with the all-time scoring record qualifies as "unbelievable to stop".

Yeah because we went 16-0 because of maroney's record breaking touchdown season...... O right.

If Adrian Peterson was here, the Patriots would not suddenly transform to a running team.

My point is DaBruinz is saying Maroney gets knocked backwards consistently because the OL is getting beat by their man,Well good RBs somehow figure a way around the weak links...Maroney is not that kind of player.

That isn't what I said. I said the run blocking by the O-line was inconsistent and it resulted in Maroney having 2-3 defenders at times in the backfield with him.

Good RBs can figure out how to beat one or two players. Trying to beat three players who are in the backfield with you is going to be very hard. And its not like he is ALWAYS losing yardage on those.. There have been plenty of times that he's gained yardage. You just chose to ignore those. Just like you ignore when Morris or Faulk or Jordan or Taylor or Dillon got hit in the backfield.

Current RB stars like Frank Gore and Maurice Joes-Drew do not have an all-pro OL in front of him,You can't tell me they do,Great RBs find ways to get yardage and much of the time right through the teeth of the D.

Who said anything about ALL-PRO. I said consistent. There is a difference, but that seems to be lost on you. Either that or you just enjoy lying about what is being said.

You're laughable with your rant on an internet website and with people you dont even know while you are sitting on the coal stove with your laptop in your lap in your basement

I won't even lower myself to respond and waste anymore time here with such a one-sided arrogant homer ..what a dork

And yes,Adrian Peterson with this OL would still easily have 1,600 or more yards ala Corey Dillon in 2004,RBs like that make plays happen don't wait for them to happen.

Adrian Peterson, with this O-line, would not be nearly as successful as he is with the Minnesota O-line. And it has to do with the fact that Minnesota's O-line is consistent in their run blocking. If the Pats O-line was consistent in its runblocking, then that would be a different story.

In 2007, the Giants were not a running team. They had 100 more pass attempts than run attempts. In 2008, one could consider them a balanced team since they were nearly identical in run attempts (502) to pass attempts (491).

The 2007 patriots had the arguably the best single season passing offense of all time. The giants priority wasn't particularly aimed to stop maroney to put it mildly sooo shouldnt maroney have a better game due to that fact alone with his skill set?

flame away....... but Im just sayin

Actually, no, because the Giants defense was to use the blitz and stunts to over-power or confuse the O-line so they could get men free to attack the ball carrier or QB.

Well, looks like we can start loading up the PatsFans.com short bus.

If Adrian Peterson was here, the Patriots would not suddenly transform to a running team.

1) this is pure speculation.

2) Adrian peterson has probably the best mix of speed and power I've ever seen at the RB position, having that said I'd be willing to bet my house if BB had adrian peterson he'd change things quite a bit.

You're laughable with your rant on an internet website and with people you dont even know while you are sitting on the coal stove with your laptop in your lap in your basement

Considering that you are the one LYING about what people are saying, its kind of stupid for you to be calling anyone else " a one-sided arrogant homer."

BTW, for the record, I am sitting in my new house that I purchased with my fiance. Its a single story ranch. There is no basement. It does have 2 nice fireplaces though.
