Ravens not happy with officiating

To the OP:

What else is new?

I didn't agree with either roughing the passer penalties that were called on hits to the head, but there was one assessed to both teams.

As for the 4th down call they challenged on the fake field goal attempt. I thought the foul was a dead ball foul and not declinable to begin with. Everyone I was with while watching the gsme, had the same response. I don't get why they would complain about that or the officials even allowed it to be reviewed.

Can someone post crying Ray Lewis from 2007 game? God, just by reading text and not knowing his sex, you would think he is a woman who haven't been laid for 30 years.

With the coach being a big baby whiner, no wonder the teams cries like they do.

Wasn't a dead ball. Somehow the Refs gave the Pats a first down on that play and then enforced the penalty. Surprising because the refs didn't seem concerened with the spot of the end of the play.

Harbaugh questioned that there was a first down. He wanted to decline the penalty and take over on downs, which looks like what should have happened.

YouTube - Ray Lewis calls officiating 'Embarassing'

Those ticky-tacky calls may be "correct," but you literally cannot touch Tom Brady now without expecting a penalty. The guys are just expressing their frustration at Brady basically being untouchable in every single way, and even as New England fans, I don't think you can deny that.

Ngata reached his hands out to try to bat the ball down, which, by the way, is usually next to the quarterback's head right before being thrown. . .

Also, how often do you see a coach being flagged in football? Harbaugh wasn't publicly showing up the referees, but they actually called a personal foul on him anyway.

The spots were pretty bad too.

The bad officiating undoubtedly went both ways, but Baltimore got the shaft more often than New England.

Which is exactly why Mike Wright got flagged for touching Joe Flacco's face. But no, it's only Brady right?

1. Isn't illegal formation always a dead ball foul? Also, are you saying that the Pats got a first and then had the penalty assessed giving them a 1st-and-15?

2. I have no idea why people are saying he didn't get the first. He reached a few feet past the marker before he hit the ground. Unless I saw the wrong six replays.

It was a presnap penalty. I may have the rules wrong. I will admit that.

The call was right though. Eventhough Baker's body was out of bounds, none of his body touched the ground until the ball got passed the first down marker while in bounds. The ball carrier isn't out of bounds until a part of his body touches the ground out of bounds or the ball goes out of bounds. You see players getting TDs all the time like this where they are going out of bounds and he stretches his arm so the ball goes inside the pilons. The call was right even if it looked wrong.

Yes, Wright had the same ticky-tack call. It seemed pretty consistent to me.

1. No it's not always a dead ball foul. The penalty is assessed after the play. If the QB is sacked, the D can take the sack.

2. I agree. I can't say where the ball went out but I do know that both of his feet were in bounds when he reached for the ball. It's impossible to say where that ball went out and the booth didn't see it either.

Although I think Ed Reed is a bigger chump than Ray Lewis for what he said about the spots, I do agree with Reed that the NFL should be PRECISE. There should be sensors around the field letting us know where the ball went out of bounds in that situation.

Good info on #1, although I'm having a hard time remembering the last time I saw it. Then again, I'm 108 years old.

Regardless, I'm sick and goddamn tired of teams who always blame the refs when they lose. It used to be the Chargers, but the Ravens have taken the torch.

Fake field goal explanation - Extra Points - Boston.com

The Patriots attempted a fake field goal with 7:18 left in the fourth quarter. Punter Chris Hanson complete a four yard pass to tight end Chris Baker for four yards. But Baker was called for illegal motion. Here is where it gets funny.
Q: What were the Ravens challenging on the fake field goal?

RW: The Ravens were challenging that the pass should have been called incomplete.

Q: Why did the illegal motion penalty not override that challenge?
RW: If it had been an incomplete pass, then they would have declined the penalty and they would have taken the ball at the previous spot. Baltimore would have – because it was fourth down [and an] incomplete pass – so they would have gotten the ball 1st-and-10 at the previous spot. So that’s why they challenged that, to determine whether or not it was in fact a completed pass. When we found out it was a completed pass, then the illegal motion penalty kicks in. [That] takes it back, so they have to repeat the down …. It was a fourth down. [He] caught the pass [and it was] good for a first down.

Q: So [Baltimore] challenged if [New England] had caught the ball?

RW: That’s right.

Q: Should the play have been spotted and measured before the challenge?

RW: There was no indisputable evidence to indicate that the ball was not a first down. We looked at that to see if it was in fact a first down. We couldn't determine that from the replay. So the ruling on the field would stand in that regard.

My problem with is the last part. I feel the refs were sloppy at the end.

"There was no indisputable evidence to indicate that the ball was not a first down." Is that how it works on passes and runs? How about placing the ball. I don't think the refs realized the implications of it being 4th down and took the easy way out and placed it five yards back from the first down marker.

Yeah! Blaming the refs in a loss is bush league. I have felt the officiating in several of the Pats games have been bad, but for the most part they have been pretty even in the bad calls. I would put today in such a classification. There were several questionable calls against the Pats today.

I think this constant crying about officiating is a weakness with the Ravens. Flacco's INT at the end of the first half had a bigger impact on the outcome than any of the controversial calls.

As a comparison, look at Meriweather, who was brilliant all day for a defense that only gave up 14 points to a team averaging 34 points. What did he have to say about the game?

"I'm happy with the win but I think we have lot to improve on. We gave up too many big plays and couldn't get off the field on third down. We did a lot of things that good defense don't do so we have a lot of work to do."

One team is whining about the loss, blaming the refs, blaming certain calls. The winning team is still not satisfied, and looking to improve. That's a significant difference.

LOSERS!

Know what I am sick of...people saying Brady gets preferential treatment. Peyton Manning gets the very same treatment and nary a word. ESPN Bias, I call it. Why do I listen to that station at all ....... self destructive behavior on my part.

Did anybody else take note of the post-game handshake btwn. Bill & Harbaugh? Harbaugh never met Bill's eyes, never broke stride, barely shook his hand, and off he went.

I used to respect him, but now he can GFH.

As long as Ray Lewis remains with this franchise, the Ravens will always lack discipline & composure, and will always be guided by hip-hoppin', gang-bangin' thuggery & intimidation.

Did the refs drop the ball on the 4th down pass on Baltimore's last posession?

They had the ball with a chance to win the game and didn't get it done. Played hard lost a tough one, suck it up, and get ready to play next week.

I'm sure some of Harbaugh's decisions today didn't contribute to the loss? I still don't know wtf he was thinking at the end of the first half when he called the timeout after letting the play clock run all the way down to 3. And his two challenges were terrible.

Whatever, just like in 2007, the Ravens can ***** all they want; it won't do a thing except make them look like a team full of complainers. At least today no Raven fired a flag into the crowd, heh.

Side note: Ray Lewis dresses like a twat.

I think you are thinking of a false start.

My problem with the play is that the side Linesman didn't appear to be marking any progress. His attention was to the other official running up to him. The placement seemed an afterthought.
