At least one failed conversion was a run. Actually lost yardage. And it was Taylor.

That's true.

My point is establishing the run, getting a rhythm, forcing them to defend the run. Doesn't matter to me that their average run was over 4 or that Taylor's avg was 5.8, those are just stats.

Not saying any individual running play is better than any individual passing play. We will still be primarily a passing team, but the balance means less desperate heaves, IMO.

Re: This one's on Brady

Sucks to say it, but I agree. Hopefully he's just working out the kinks still and will round himself into shape soon enough.

Re: This one's on Brady

Brady had a bad game. But to say this is on him is ridiculous.

- Brady missed open receivers. He was not in sync. That's on him.
- The OL failed to protect him leting him get knocked down play after play
- The OL failed to run block consistently when it HAD to be done
- Moss was MIA, blanketed by Revis
- Galloway was putrid
- OC calls are too predictable. Josh is missed.

Other than that, yeah the poor offensive production was "on Brady" and not the other 10.

"Let's just hope this turns out to be an anomoly. But right now I am wondering whether all the coaching and front office defections (Weis, Crennel, Mangini, McDaniels, Dimitroff, and Pioli) have finally caught up with BB."

I agree. Maybe this year we don't lose a coach. We have lost more coaches than the rest of the league put together. It takes awhile when you have to replace coaches every year.

Re: Couldn't have been more wrong

This a team in the midst of a MAJOR transition.

The D is getting younger, most obviously of late in the Secondary, but with the Seymour trade, and previously with Bruschi and Vrabel departing, the Front 7 has growing pains to go through. We are seeing them, but those issues are not nearly as glaring as what the Offense is going through now. This perpetual No-Huddle has to give way to a more conventional attack at some point. The NFL has it figured out and they never won with it anyway. Stephen Neal...buh-bye. Move Light inside to Guard and give the monster Vollmer the slot at LT.

I'm not advocating these for this year, but rather next year. I have faith that Floyd Reece will bring value to the upcoming high draft picks. In the long term, the Pats will be fine. This year will be a grind. I'm not giving up on the year by any stretch, because this team will be a different animal by December. Hopefully, a far better one than we saw today.

Re: What happened to Maroney?

He was in there to begin, and we were running it decently....

and i noticed on the kick returns he was moving SLOW, like extremely slow.....no burst no nothing

but was running good....and then he never came back into the game on O...

sammy on the other hand was horrendus, his last year on the team

I am no expert, but I think the issue may be a Patriot staple. I think its great that you guys can get that last little bit of excellence out of your aged vets. However, the idea may be getting a little old. Its hard to get a RB in a good rythym when there are 3 guys on the bench that do the same thing. Your RB's have no chance to get something going. I believe a 2 back tandem works, but a 4 back tandem is throwing too many hats in the ring.

that's ridiculous ... we had a 4.2 running average today ... we just need to balance out the attack with more running to counter all the blitzes.

Gee whiz that makes a ton of sense... we do need to balance the O and get more patient with the running game.

Re: This one's on Brady

Brady was bad, and Galloway was bad as well....
Randy SHOULD have fought for that pass a bit more as well.

The whole offense looked pretty putrid TBO, the one bright spot I thought was the running of Freddy.........he looked good and waited for blocks to happen.

We lost to a very good team in their house.....does it hurt...yeah of course.....
Unacceptable?
I don't think so, even though I saw alot of stuff I thought could have been alot better....

I thought the playcalling was suspect at best, and run by Corkey the rest.....but I'm just a fan watching the game.......

Believe me, its extremely hard for me to admit it as well. But Tommy would be the first one to admit it, this ones on him.

Re: Couldn't have been more wrong

What worries me is the lack of variety on offense and defense. Why only rush 4 defenders when your facing a rookie? Why not run the ball more especially other formations other then shotgun draw plays. Can we see other screens besides a bubble screen?

My point was to the hedaline of the post, "what happened to Maroney". With 4 RB's you always have 1 getting lost in the shuffle. Your yards per carry is fine.

What he said. Putting this all on Brady is simplistic and silly.

Re: This one's on Brady

Tom didn't play well today, but to put this loss on him isn't fair.

The defense played well, but didn't get any pressure on a rookie QB. I didn't see too many blitzes either. Overall, they played well, but there weren't many big plays in the second half. The Jets rushed for over 100 yards as well.

The offense struggled, but they could have run more too. They were averaging 4.2 yards per carry, but only ran 20 times vs. 47 pass attempts. With the Jets defense on the field a lot in the first half due to the offense struggling, why not continue to run the ball and wear them down?

Not challenging the spot was a mistake. There were some 3rd and longs that the defense didn't finish. Penalties. Special teams coverage units were another weak spot.

It just wasn't a good game by the Patriots.

On the plays where I could see the coverage I noticed a safety watching Moss deep more than a few times. That being said what happened to the Randy Moss who dominated you whether you double covered him or not?

He's been MIA for the most part since December 2007...

Re: What happened to Maroney?

Give me one better back a la Dillion next year and drop a few of these vets please.

Re: This one's on Brady

It's on Brady and EVERYONE else who played offense today. You leave out the OL's run blocking and penalities, the play calling, the preparation, the dropped balls. All of it. It's a team game.

Re: Couldn't have been more wrong

I thought the Pats were gonna lose the game last week after the Bills scored to go up 11 at 5:32. Wrong.

I thought the Pats were gonna come out and stomp all over the Jesters today after NY talked so much smack this week. Wrong.

I still thought the Pats were gonna win this game when Brady took over with 5:10 left in the 4th down by only 7. Wrong.

I thought the Pats offense was the strength of this team. Wrong.

I thought the Pats defense needed to be protected until the young'uns could gel together and we get Mayo healthy. Wrong.

I thought Richard Seymour's absence wouldn't make too big a difference in the pass rush and we'd pressure the Rookie into some costly errors. Wrong.

I thought Brady was all the way back from the leg injury after the 4th quarter comeback vs. Buffalo. Wrong.

I thought Brady would kill the blitz and make the Jesters pay for bringing the house all day. Wrong.

I thought we'd see Brady looking for Moss in crunch time. Wrong.

I thought Randy would handle Revis. Wrong.

So I admit it. Everything I have thought about the 2009 Patriots so far has been 100% wrong.

Strangely enough I am very comforted by this because I'm hoping it means I am also wrong thinking the Pats may have come back down to the rest of the pack and the window may be closing.

So what do ya'll think? How wrong have you been so far this season?

idk about the rest of your post but as far as the window closing that's crap. the window is already closed because the defense has been totally rebuilt. its a brand new window and hopefully it will open as the new d gets exp and mayo returns. this team is in a transition year and they will still be a good team. sb team? who knows but most teams that are in a transition year go 7 and 9 and don't make the playoffs. i dont think thats going to happen to the pats. and thats where the extra number 1 pick comes in.

will here is my brake down of the game

first off lets give it up to the jets they played great on D and did just a nuff to win on O

QB brady looked like the rookie today and that will happen when they can stop moss and get to brady with only 4 guys most of the day

RB they cant do much when the O line cant open up any holes they got most of there yerds on draws and in the spred

WR the rookie was good and should be are #3 receiver they did a good job of stoping moss and galloway is who i though he was a 35 year old receiver who cant run routes if they wanted a old WR they should have signed harrison at lest he can run a route

OL will thanks to brady the box score will say they give up 0 sacks but the jets could of had at lest 5 they where and will be all season the down fall of this team

DL they played a lot better in this game but still what out seymour they are average

LB even with mayo in there they are less then average for a 3-4 team

S they played ok

CB Leigh Bodden can hit hard but that's about it Wilhite is by far the best corner on the team and he played good springs is one more 35 year old that should not have been signed

ST played ok

bottem line is this is not the super bowl team that we and every expert though they was

as much as we dont like it this is a rebuilding year

new OC who right now dose not know how to call plays

a DC who is very vanilla with he play calling even VS a rookie QB just to many plan looks

and we lost 6 starters on D

most teams would go 5-11 in a year like that but because we have brady they should be at lest a playoff team

Re: This one's on Brady

Gonna have to agree. Was saying it all game long. Brady has been sailing passing all over the place. He can't connect with anyone down the field. His throws to the flat are often way too high or 3 yards in front of the receiver. Even his screen passes are shaky.

Mechanically, if you watch him, Brady still isn't stepping into throws. Everything is off his back leg. Just a complete mess. Doesn't appear to have confidence.

I realize questioning St. Tom is a major no-no for some fans, but he's the one costing the team so far this season.
