Would the Pats be interested in Crabtree?

Re: Patriots interest in Crabtree?

With the draft cap for rookies, it would be impossible to give him that contract.

These players are strictly slotted.

The problem here occurred in the first place because Al Davis overplayed and overpaid a few slots above Crabtree.
Yeh, but Crazy Al was smart enough to not want competition for top head case within the organization. :snob:

Re: Patriots interest in Crabtree?

1) If this clown thinks he deserves more money than the average #10 pick, the Pats won't want anything to do with him. The Pats wouldn't give #10 to a guy they drafted #10.

2) On a related note, Mel Kiper said this morning on "Mike & Mike" that if the tool does actually hold out all year and re-enters the draft, he wouldn't drop out of the first round. Is the goop he puts on his hair seeping into his brain or something? Even if he stays in shape, he's out of football for a whole year, that can't possibly help his draft status.

But his foot would be healthier. ;)

4. Ten cent head on a multi-millions dollar body, doesn't sound like NE material.
:yeahthat:.........

Re: Patriots interest in Crabtree?

This thread is of offseason quality.

Re: Patriots interest in Crabtree?

no. The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 10 characters.

Re: Patriots interest in Crabtree?

Extremely misleading header. I think everyone else has already covered all the reasons the Pats shouldn't be interested in him. I'll leave it at that.

Re: Patriots interest in Crabtree?

He cant' be traded onlyl signed by the 49ers.. He has not other route to take.. He either sits out or reenters the draft.. he can't be traded.. This was brought up about 30 days on Sirius..

Re: Patriots interest in Crabtree?

I don't think any other team could sign him anyway, because they would be restricted by using up their rookie pool allotment on their own players. Plus, if he doesn't sign by week 10 he won't sign this year, as he would count against next year's rookie pool (there is still a rookie pool, even though there is no cap). That would make him real hard for anyone to sign, which makes it almost certain he would re-enter the draft.

Actually, the CBA states that the NFL is allowed to keep the rookie cap even if there's no overall salary cap, not that the NFL is required to have one.

They could choose to suspend the rookie cap as well (although I doubt they'll do so).

This thread is stupider than the "is BB targeting a QB in 2011?" Thread.

At least you didn't say "hear me out...I know it sounds farfetched but..."

Yeah, patriots are dying to pay 9M per year to an unproven rookie half way through the year...that's what they need to put them over the top. Plus it fits with their MO of paying huge money to prima donnas.

If I were SF, I'd never sign him this year. Given his contract demands he probably won't be drafted next year either...rookie cap and all. No one can draft him in the 3rd round as they wouldn't be able to afford him.

Crabtree is a banana brain. He was drafted 10th, what's his problem? Take the millions being offered, and go to work. The idea of reentering the draft is foolish, since it means he'll have lost a years worth of earings. That's on top of the fact that he might not get drafted higher to compensate for that loss, whereas he could even slide. Dumb move, which tells me he's a dumb guy. Not Pats material.

I'm one who most often admires BB's acumen and judgement with the exception of his being an average drafter outside the 1st round. Were BB to make a move for Crabtree, I would absoutely lose faith in his judgement.

Strictly rumor people. Not based on anything but my imagination.

But hear me out. If Crabtree doesn't sign, do you think BB would explore trading for him midseason and possibly offering one of our 2nd rounders next year. Obviously BB would need to be able to speak with him and come to some sort of agreement regarding the contract but I can see us doing this.

We've got a bunch of 2nd rounders, a long-term need at receiver as Moss isn't getting any younger. This might make sense assuming that a deal could be worked out w/ his agent.
I think we're past the point where the 49ers can trade his rights but even if the above was feasible, there would certainly be another team in the league willing to give San Fran more than what the Patriots have offered in your above hypothetical.

you have the best sig on this site,,,,,HANDS DOWN :D

I don't know of one single football fan that doesn't think Crabtree is a complete imbecile for doing what he is. He's committing career suicide, basically. There is no way he is going to get picked in the top ten next year after what he pulled. He wouldn't even get picked in the top ten even if he had a great reason to sit out the year. He's losing million as we speak, and his reputation has already been flushed down the sh!t tubes.

I would never want this punk playing for the Pats. Doesnt show up at the combine, holds out, give me a break.......

I don't want Crabtree.

But this does point out one of the reasons that there needs to be a slotted salary amounts for rookies. Crabtree has almost zero options other than accept whatever the team that drafts him offers.
