Rapoport: Mayo in good spirits, tells teammate injury is "nothing serious"

6 weeks takes us exactly to the bye. Some tough games in there but after the bye is vs. Miami, @ Indy, vs. Jets so if he's out about 6 weeks I would think they'll be targeting a Week 8 return.

Tough blow nontheless but at least initially, it sounds like he'll be back for the 2nd 1/2 of the season...

Looks like Guyton plays MLB in the nickel and dime and AD in the regular defense..?

Sprained MCL is 3 to 6 weeks, but don't forget Mayo is young so expect him to bounce back after 2 games or so.

I think what happens is AD moves inside, and Ninkovitch goes outside. AD lines up a lot in that area anyway.

I thought they said "4-6 weeks", but I may have misheard since someone was talking to me at that time. Any way you slice it, it's not official, but it seems as if he'll miss some time.

And the similarities continue from 2003.

-Brady coming off of injury prior year- )02 shoulder speration)
-Revamped secondary from prior year
-Play Buffalo first
-Major player lost for 6 games (Ted Washington vs Mayo)
-Coming off a year in which we tied for division, but did not make the playoffs.

Ok I'm stretching...

As long as the ending is similar to 2003, I'm fine with it. :)

Hopefully we'll have a healthy Mayo for the last 10 games of the season to give our defense a big lift. Hopefully also this will force some of the other folks to raise their game a notch in the meantime.

Anything in that 4-8 weeks range isn't that bad at all. 6-1 or 5-2 going into the bye will position the team well for the second half of the season. Once the defense begins to develop continuity and the familiarity with the system increases, they will add one of their best players, one of their best players largely fresh nonetheless.

We can survive for 6 weeks. We just need him when it counts because I don't think we'll get the job done if he isn't around.

It depends on the sprain (i.e. tear, MCL sprains are actually small tears).

If it's small, he misses a game or two and is back in a couple weeks. If it's long, that's 6 weeks. It could be anything in between.

Isn't this what Matt Cassel has?

I am basing my judgement on what I saw on the replay. Of course I could be wrong.

I'm just happy that Junior said he could give us 6 games--hope he is serious. Regardless of when Mayo returns, our ILB situation is thin. I don't like the idea of AD moving inside, and the thought of Guyton manning the middle in a 4-3 gives me nightmares.

Same here. Maybe he can play the next 6, stay on the inactive roster for the 2nd half of the season, and activated in the playoffs?

Wouldn't we just stick with the 4-3 like we did most of last night once he went out?

I don't know about all of this moving AD inside business. It isn't playing to his strengths. Not only that but then you don't have Burgess on the field (though he may only be a situational passer anyway). I just think Bill would rather have a Pryor, Brace, or Wright on the field than an unproven Ninkovich and an out-of-position AD.

By all indications in TC it looked as if we were already looking at more base 4-3 looks anyway.

BB on EEI RIGHT NOW....see what he has to say

BB talking about bringing Bruschi back.....

Mayo is done?
:(

Why not [for run defense]?

I was horrified, then seriously impressed by how calm AD and Guyton looked out there (basically improvising) on passing downs.

But our base defense has some serious holes now that need to be addressed.
