PFT: If Seymour doesn't report, Raiders will want their pick back

If the Raiders had their wits about them they should open negotiation between Seymours agent and the Titans or Saints. Possibly one of them can offer Seymour/Raiders something to bail them all out.

Enough of a pick in 2010 or 2011 plus a player to offset the Raiders loss, and a fair enough contract with a better team closer to SC to get Seymour to bite.

Jake Plummer,Jake Plummer,Jake Plummer....still retired.

One major problem in the Team-Agent-Player menage-a-trois is that the agent actually gets paid to stir the pot. The Patriots send players a nice little message that tells them they need to meet the team halfway if they want to remain on a championship caliber team. The player needs to do his own thinking about exactly what that means. The agent will ALWAYS try to maximize the contract, and when it comes to dealing with the Patriots, the agent is going to do his best to get that player placed elsewhere where the money is higher.

So, I like how the Patriots run things, but for their message to players to get across, the player himself must take responsibility for his own future without leaving himself in control of his agent.

If one assumes that only the league can veto the trade (via a petition from the Raiders, based on failure to report / failed physical), then an interesting question is raised: who does Roger Goodell hate more, Al Davis or Bill Belichick?

Failure to report /= failed physical.

There is no assumption that the league can veto this thing. It is a done deal unless Seymour actually FAILS his physical.

I agree 100%. Allowing this means that every valuable player in the league now has total veto power over trades. No dice.

That is called a person with FU money and all the top players have that. It could be a moment they realize additional powers that they have. Great time to be a fan. This scenario all around has "jumped-the-shark" written all over it.

Chicken - Egg. If you don't show you can't fail. But then again you never passed. Yeah I'm sure that loop-hole will hold water. I understand we all want our angle in this to be the one that plays out. But if he doesn't show, it's all going to be voided, it's the only sane thing you can do and the Bill Of Rights, allows the player not to show if he chooses not to.

The Seymor Deal

BB pays for future performance, not past performance... Seymour's best days are behind him, and his biggest contract is ahead of him... time to cut him...

None of us have read the trade contract... but if the Pats "traded" him with a restriction that he reports, they are stupid.

If the Raiders made a trade without a guarantee of a longterm contract, they are stupid...

someone will look stupid after this trade; let's see who.

Wow, another Seymour thread. Anyways, what is the restriction Seymour's reporting? If true, this could be his way out.

didn't ron borges get fired for plagiarism (or was it really because he had a lack of access to BB)? does borges even have a job now? which company would be so desparate to hire a plagiarist?

Mike Reiss would be the best person to answer this to all of the fans in New England.

The question is going to be who sends the 5 day letter...and when?? The Patriots do not own his contract and even though many think they can send it, I really doubt they should. The Raiders SHOULD, but what if NEITHER does?? The trade just can't be voided unless the letter is sent. THAT is what they are all avoiding, doing a little dance around it for when that is sent, it's hardball time and more. The Patriots are moving on and they don't have his rights and Oakland didn't have him, and is only in it for an 11 pick..a few years off, so??? I think they are NOT doing that in teh hope of getting some cash ready to lure Seymour in. It's all about the money..and that is what Oakland is doing. But I could see this going down the road some..neither team doing anything and Sey in limbo and not getting paid. The trump card is trying to be avoided; obe that is done..Seymour is in a corner. The more this goes on, the more public opinion is sinking backing him. He needs to do something..time will tell. If the 5 day letter is sent and he doesn't report, then that is when it will be voided...but Seymour loses this year and receives no pay and can not play.

They are stupid if that is in the clause of the trade?? That the player HAS to report?? I would THINK that common sense would have SOMETHING in league trade clauses that would BE SURE a player traded HAS TO report. Otherwise, a team would trade a player who didn't want to go to a team, get value and give up nothing...doesn't make any sense at all.

reread what i said.. the pats are stupid if they did NOT have a clause that the trade is in effect regardless of his reporting...
