Patriots release Kevin O'Connell

I'm reminded of something I read once about college admissions, that seems just as applicable here. To paraphrase:

In other words, they can assess "between the ears," but all they can do is say what is there, not predict what will happen.

Heck, for all we know, O'Connell became severely depressed when McDaniels left for Denver, and began pining for the fjords (or mountains) or something. . . .

Very well said.

This is the BEST news I've heard today!!!!

If Brady's injury were the least bit of a concern there's no way they'd cut a QB who knows the system.

Totally agree.

What a long thread of, ahem....discussion: "a 3rd round pick no less!" "bring in Feely" "trade for QB X" "whoever scouted O'Connell needs to be canned!"...yada yada yada. Who cares?

Maybe the earth shattering news is that O'Connell wasn't very good, and [more importantly] BB just likes what he's seen of Walter.

so the pats have almost nothing to show for 4 3rd round picks over the last 2 years (tate and mckenzie are out, koc gone, and crable on his way out)

can't do any worse

The mods deleted my thread for whatever reason(???????).

The NFLN is reporting that the reason Kevin O'Connell was released is that it is the First step in Aquiring A J Feeley from thr Eagles.
I heard this 98.5 from Felger and saw it on the NFLN.

They're usually right on with their predictions,so we'll see.It makes sense, why they released him so early.IMO,it might be curtains for Ben Watson or Dave Thomas,as the Iggles need TE help and Andy Reid has always been a good trading partner with BB.

not buying, sorry.

The Patriots wouldn't need to release O'Connell to acquire Feeley, or anyone else.

And if they were going to trade, I'd trade Smith before Watson or Thomas.

Probably because one of them realized that you can't differentiate between Felger (who has no access) regurgitating speculation from NFLN (who doesn't have much more) from actual factual reporting.

As others have stated, there is no reason to cut KOC beyond he didn't cut it here. And if you're in the market for another QB, why tip your hand... The interest in AJ rumors are likely eminating out of Philly.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was simply a salary dump and they try to bring him back at a more reasonable price tag.
You'd be the only one who wasn't surprised. Everyone else will be saying WTF?

(His salary is rookie minimum. He can't be paid less.)

The first step? What first step? They don't need to cut KOC to sign Feeley!?! They could cut Robert Ortiz, the 12th or 13th WR in camp, who if he isn't cut by Tuesday will be cut by Saturday.

Felger is a dope who still thinks we can save $5 mil in cap money by cutting Jarvis Green.

I'm reporting speculation from a quality nfl source, the NFL Network. They have been spot-on many times before.

Just because the anti-trade,anti-feeley,"i'm right about koc" crowd is not interested in any other explanation, doesn't mean other patriot fans are not.

If my post generates discussion, fine,if not, that's fine by me as well. It's simply a speculative report that is topical...fini.

?????? Almost nothing to show. We still have 3 of the four? What the hell has happened to this forum? Is there anyone left who is not here simply to take shots at the Patriots, whether they make sense or not? Are there any patsfans left on patsfans?

And most of us heard the speculative reporting...yesterday. So it's not news or thread worthy. BTW they were of spot as often as on spot where THIS team is concerned, and that was before Schefter moved on.

NFL Network has produced no scoops that you can't find on Twitter since Schefter left. I like Lombardi, but his "Peppers will absolutely sign w/ the Patriots" proclamation turned out to be vapor, and LaCanfora seems to lack the sources Schefter had.

My apologies on behalf of those of us who've got short fuses right now. It's been a long, long offseason and the trolls have been horrible. Lord knows that my fuse has been short on several occasions this offseason as well. Keep on posting!

Take cover! The sky is falling!

This thread certainly does have more than its share of small birds who make lots of noise, I agree, SC.

Teh Pattyriots sucked. (I couldn't help it, the peer pressure was just too strong!) :p

I think that once healthy tate is going to be a Force (hence the stopover signing of Galloway).

At the time O'Connel was drafted, Cassel was unproven and entering the final year of his contract. So drafting a QB was a smart idea. Obvioulsy BB thinks that there will be a qualitity veteran back-up QB out there (A.J.)

Plus of course, there's always VINNIE

I agree with you, except for the twitter-hyperbole,Adam Schefter was the best inside source at the NFLN.

It's only been an hour, let's see how it plays out.Way too soon to discard this, offhand.

The bandwagon's getting restless. If the Pats don't win another couple of SBs right away they're going to all have to become Steeler fans or something.
