Release him while all the other clubs
are considering their own hard cuts.

They'll ignore DeVree.

Voila! DeVree clears to the PS in Sept.

Are you my long lost alter ego?

They most likely released him now to give him a chance to sign with another team. I didn't see him making the team over any of the other four regardless of whether the team ends up keeping 3 or 4 TE's.

I agree. An early release is usually a sign of respect, of giving the guy achance to catch on with another team.

If they were trying to sneak him on hte ps, they would hold him to the last minute when other teams were wresting with their own tough cuts rather than being in the evaluation mode they are in at this time.

I like DeVree and hope he catches on somewhere, but if he doesn't, I hope he makes it back to the Pats ps.

Paging KC and Denver.

We'll see what happens the next few days..O agree..KC Denver..MORE chance there then staying here...it means I think no trade of any TE here...and with Smith playing his way off the squad..a BIT surprising..'d love to see him back here for the PSquad..BUT..little chance now.

Denver has its tight ends. Kansas City and Philadelphia will be scouring the wires.

Maybe they just want to give more practice reps to the guys who might make the roster.

If that were the case, they could have simply kept him on the bench. No, the reality is that the team is giving him a chance to go elsewhere with no compensation. If the team wanted him for the Practice Squad, they woul have waited and cut him on the last hour of the final cut. For example, I expect us to do that with Richard and Bussey.

wonder if they had to make room for somebody...Question: If McKenzie is signed now, do they have to first make a roster spot for him, or can they put him directly on IR without cutting someone first?

There goes my theory Watson was on the trading block...

I wonder how little his (Watson's) value has sunk to?

I hope Tyson can land a spot somewhere, the kid seemed to have a good camp from everything I have read.

I don't think Watson's value has declined. Our offense just is not a TE orientated offense. I think Belichick values Watson as a security blanket ... he's there if we need him kind of thing. Ben will surprise the fans before he's done here. He's too talented to be cheaply replaced.

And if they could have traded him for any compensation (like getting that mysterious Le Kevin Smith seventh round pick back) they would have done so. They probably called the TE-needy teams, checked, and released him.

He'll get a pre-season game or two to audition.

Mildly surprising, given the potential of releasing the expensive and unproductive Alex Smith.

Good luck to him.
