Eagles: Michael Vick signed to 2 year deal ($1.6 million for 2009)

Re: Eagles: Michael Vick signed to 2 year deal (ESPN)

I'm unsure why Philadelphia would sign Vick, but Kolb is hurt.

and even if he's not, he may end up on IR. At the end of the game some of the people from the Eagles ticket office sat in front of me. I asked if they expected any angry calls. They said it had already started because the main number was closed and the only thing open was the ticket office. Eagles fans around me were not happy. It was summed up as the first time McNabb throws a pick, they will be screaming for Vick...That's real productive......

Re: Eagles: Michael Vick signed to 2 year deal (ESPN)

I love dogs too (I much prefer them to people, actually), though I don't agree with the premise that Vick is worse than a Donte Stallworth or Leonard Little. He's scum, sure, but a lot of the league is scum. And if you think that smoking pot makes a player a ghetto thug, then I'd just be curious to hear how you feel about Randy Moss and Kevin Faulk, for starters.

Now, back to the actual topic, I think this could work out great for the Eagles. Why not? As long as his athleticism is still there, then this guy can make things happen on the field. The idea of putting him in the backfield with McNabb could get particularly interesting. Maybe their playing time doesn't have to be mutually exclusive. Vick's never been a very good QB, but he could be a hell of a difference maker if he was used as an athlete who is a danger to pass if the opportunity is given to him.

I agree with both parts of your post. My feeling is that the Eagles in the past have had three weaknesses, all on offense (the defense has been consistently good): wide receiver (think Thrash and Pinkston), McNabb's up-and-downness and over-dependence on Westbrook. The first has gone (Maclin, Jackson, Baskett ...). The second they're going to have to live with. Perhaps the signing of Vick can help to fix the third -- as a running back/receiver out of the backfield (with an arm in reserve). Opens up a lot of possibilities for an imaginative coach.

Re: Eagles: Michael Vick signed to 2 year deal (ESPN)

Last comment about this.. My comment came on too strong... I just hate Mike Vick, because of my love for dogs.. Nothing racial it came across that way sorry to offend.. But not sorry to the vick lovers, he does not deserve a second chance... Lets move on Im not commenting on this anymore .. Lets go Pats....

LOL @ at trying to sound like you're reasonable while having a strong biased opinion yourself. Sorry, but you're love for dogs is obviously clouding your judgement. No credibility imo.

Well lets see how this role model is now... Your crediblity is shaky after 8 posts, be that as it may.. He was not the perfect role model or Qb before all this happened let me count the ways

Ron Mexico-
fliping of fans
the water bottle incident
the avg qb play at best...

He is very overated... Does he deserve a second chance ?? He had it so rough before , he only pissed away 10 million dollars on his own.. And has no one to blame but himself... Im glad he will never be near the Pats , glad the whole talk of him joining the team is dead.. And yes my love for dogs may cloud my judgement, but he was overated .. Im sorry all you judge your opinion by sportscenter highlights and Madden 10 experience.... Subject is over time as pats fans to move on...

Re: Eagles: Michael Vick signed to 2 year deal (ESPN)

It might have been a quote that didn't belong in the thread but there have been SEVERAL posts since then that actually are on topic. Seeing as that happened, it has become a dead issue. There was no need to rehash it. Again, if you want to debate racism then there's a political forum for that. That stuff simply does not belong in the main forum.

Whatever thread police....someone makes an ignorant statement in thread about Vick, gets called on it, doesn't really answer the question regarding who the other ghetto Philly QBs were and it doens't belong in thread about Vick where he made the statement??? Yep - you're right....

Re: Eagles: Michael Vick signed to 2 year deal (ESPN)

I bet the Patriots would have signed him if he'd been an aborigine!

Just as long as he isn't Corean. We now know that Corean's can only play defense.

Philly: East Coast Oakland Raiders. They had to sign Vick for the dog days of August! He should have signed with an animal shelter. Release the hounds.

Re: Eagles: Michael Vick signed to 2 year deal (ESPN)

Good luck to Vick...

Why? I hope he fails miserably.

Watching his press conference flanked by Reid and Dungy. He sounds and looks drugged -- mouthing all the "right" words. Dungy talking about the Lord, forgiveness for making a "mistake," etc., etc.

Ditto.

He did a 60 Minutes interview too. Apparently, he knows it's wrong now and said he should have taken the initiative to stop it but he didn't. Well, duh, it was HIS operation. That just rubs me the wrong way, like he was just along for the ride.

This was part of this guy's lifestyle for years and years. Do I believe he's sincerely remorseful or just remorseful because he has to be. The latter, without doubt.

It's the Eagles problem now.

Of course he is still clueless and just going through the 'motions'.

He had his lawyers submit a plan to the bankruptcy court that had him getting a $70 million salary from some team in the NFL. The judge threw it out, but the plan reeks of the idea that he still thinks he can just go and milk the NFL cash cow. It means he still doesn't take seriously what he did, both with the dogs and with the lying.

He got called on it several times, idiot. There was no need to bring it up again 20 posts after it died. Considering I've never seen you before this, I'll just assume that you have no interest in talking football.

Re: Eagles: Michael Vick signed to 2 year deal (ESPN)

ok let's talk about how this is relevant to the pats. with vick signed, aj feeley is going to get cut. i would love this kid as our backup. walter sucks. anyone see this as a possibility?

He's better than Walter for sure, but he's also been interception prone...I would still take him, but I think there is a better chance they cut Kolb...

Yeah. I'd agree with pretty much everything you say. He's probably as sincere as anyone who got caught doing something bad and who wants a second chance; i.e., not very sincere. But I might be wrong.

In the final analysis, he'll be judged on his actions and not his intentions. If he keeps his nose clean, loses the "posse" and is a model of good Locker room behavior, then we can wonder all we want about his motives but will never know, and it won't matter in any practical sense.

I didn't realize that Vick is only 29 yo, three years younger than Brady. That means he has a lot of incentive to get into NFL shape, get his $5.2 million next year and prove he's worthy of a big contract when he turns 31. I'm going to bet that he becomes a model citizen, at least for the next two years.

But your final sentence says it all, the Eagles have made a choice and they will now live with it for better or for worse. I'm glad that's not an equation that the Patriots will have to deal with.

Very well said.

Above all, I am thrilled that the whole Vick to the Pats? stuff is dead. And for that, I guess I have to be happy at this turn of events.

Michael Holley says that sources have the Patriots contacting Vick at the last minute, but that it was too late to make a deal.

Good luck to him. Hope he makes the most of it.

+1

It was a bad performance, the only one who seemed genuine was poor Jeff Lurie, who looked like he cannot wait for Vick to screw up so he can bounce him and tell everyone "at least we tried!"
