Are there any news about this two young guys?

Are they injured? I read that Mayo was at the gold tournament, but Brandon?

Meriweather has a partially torn MCL and Mayo has bone spurs in his ankle. Next question.

nothing like that has been announced who's your source? they are obviously injured, hopefully not bad, but its concerning that they brought mcgowan in now that we know merriweather is hurt

I wasn't sure if he knew something or not but if he does, he's not going to give you his source - letekro, I would be curious, though, if this is something you know or if you were being sarcastic about the lack of information the Patriots give out.

If true, MCLs are a short term thing usually requiring no surgery. Brady tore his MCL in addition to the ACL and he had to wait about 6 weeks for the MCL to heal before having the ACL repaired. I don't know anything about bone spurs.

yea, my question would also be if hes being legit, or if he was being ironic...

We need a source. We havent seen anything about those two anywhere.

You just don't understand the meaning of sarcasm do you?

Do you know anything about this team and how they handle injuries? Nothing is obvious.

We do, but of course sarcasm isn't simply saying the opposite of what you mean. That isn't sarcasm.

Sarcasm means "tearing of flesh" and is an insult aimed at someone, not a commentary on a state of affairs. Sarcasm needs to have a victim of the ridicule or derision.

What you are thinking of is irony, which is using words to convey the exact opposite meaning of what you are actually saying.

But with irony, the key is the you HAVE TO CONVEY the meaning that is the opposite of the words you are using. If a person, certainly in more than one person, reads the statement and doesn't realize it was supposed to be irony then it wasn't. Same with sarcasm. The onus in on the speaker (poster) to convey the meaning, not on the reader.

Don't take my word for it, check a dictionary.

Mayo is refusing to report unless the Patriots promise not to franchise him in 2014.

Yeah, but letekro's initial comment was still sarcasm, even by the proper definition that you just gave...

OK, here's a report from training camp today. I excerted sections on Mayo and Meriweather. Mods, edit this if it's copying too much info.

National Football News said:
Bill Belichick, after today's training camp session, met with reporters to go over off-season medical reports. Although not required by the league, it's just one more example of Bill Belichick's efforts to work with the media.

Mayo, said Coach Belichick, had arthroscopic work on his right knee performed on April 10th at Mass General by Dr. Roberto Menedez after physical therapy was unable to resolve a problem the team physicians identified. Belichick provided before and after X-rays and MRI images for the assembled media. "The swelling has gone done, and we expect him back on field on July 25th or 26th," said the coach. "The long term prognosis is excellent, but he will be slowed for the first six games of the season. Especially going to his left, when he uses the right knee to change directions or explode to the left. If you see where the damage was, here, to the outside of the right knee, you'll understand the limitations."

Meriweather had a strained ligament in the AC joint of the shoulder that was repaired, according to Belichick. "He has re-gained complete range of motion, but he's not ready for the field yet. We anticipate that he will be fine in coverage - he won't lose any speed or agility as a result of this procedure. The doctors have cautioned us against any direct blow to that joint. So our plan is to use him in coverage. I just hope there aren't too many runs toward his side of the field -- we don't want him going head to head with a running back or blocking back."

Ok, I checked the dictionary and here's what is said:
2 a: a mode of satirical wit depending for its effect on bitter, caustic, and often ironic language that is usually directed against an individual
Reference: sarcasm - Definition from the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary

Now isn't that ironic?

He might have gotten away with it if he'd added a picture of Darth Vader on a dolphin. ;)

That was sarcasm. Well done.

Mr. Urgent realized that to perform a satire on Belichicks reticence with injury information, he needed to refer to an example of, or a parody of, an injury report by Coach Bellichick.

The reader can therefore contrast this with an actual injury report and realize the humorous intent of the poster.

Ha ha.
