that's only 7 defenders..the Rats won't get far playing 7 on 11

You'll see. I just named the cream of the crop guys. But you all are kidding yourselves if you don't think that this defense will be great.

New official name for head coach of the New Jersey Green Beans:

Tubby Wrecks, a/k/a T-Wrecks.

How did we get from sexy rexy to Tubby Wrecks?

Jets fans can definitely identify with "kidding oneself" eh?

Your defense might be good. We're not scared of good defenses, however.

Okay......

Honestly, when was the last time the Pats had a losing record? Do you presume we played no good or even great defenses in any of those wins? Be real, friend.

I am being real, and I genuinely believe we will split the season series this year. I do not think we will win the division, but I will be disappointed if we miss the playoffs. Don't give me the "false hope-Jets fan" syndrome either. This team is good.

Also, going back to the original point of the thread. I listened to the interview on WFAN the other day with Mike Francesa. Rex didn't come on the air mouthing off on his own, he was asked a question about the Monster of the AFCE that is New England, and he said we will attack them and we are not intimidated by them. I really don't see the big deal here. It would be another thing if he was calling pressers and saying "we will beat NE" or if he went onto the radio show saying that.

He was asked a question, he answered it. There is nothing wrong with that. Ryan will speak his mind.

Your defense is improved - on paper. What's giving you so much confidence in your offense, though?

O-Line, running game. Sanchez will manage the game & gradually learn and get better. I was disappointed, however, when they didn't go get a WR in free agency.

Brett is the MAN!!! I can't wait to see the Week 2 matchup vs. the Pats. There will be blood. Fear this offense all you Pats fans!!! Favre, Cotchery, Coles, Jones, Washington...I'm ready for football right now. :D

Go Jets!

How did that work out?

I'm willing to concede the Jets improved on D. But, if we're keeping it real, the Jets should be CAUTIOUSLY confident until they actualy prove something on the field. The last "positive" Jets memory I have (for those who root for NY) : the Jets going 9-7 by beating a GB team that had decided to rest everyone and going to the playoffs because of a tie-breaker over the Pats & Dolphins in 2002 !

Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life.

Rex is proven to be a defensive genius. None of those three can measure up. I am way more excited about Ryan than any of those three.

Being a defensive genius doesn't mean he will be a great coach, if anything being a genius on either side of the ball has proven to be a major problem for head coaches to the point that they are failures.

I was worried about Mangina in the begining, i'm not worried at all about Rex. I see him as a disaster in the making. He will have his defense wire up every week, they'll be very aggresive and take a lot of penalties, but the jets don't have th offense to dig themselves out of the hole defense will put them in.

Man, you almost have to give Jets fans credit for being so deluded. Back when the Pats sucked as badly as they do year in and year out, 'cautiously optimistic' would have been about the most extreme phrase you could have used to describe me.

For the record, Rex Ryan as a coach doesn't worry me at all. The only thing that does worry me is that he might be the kind of guy who would send some thug out for the specific purpose of injuring Brady, since he himself is essentially a thug of a coach. Beyond that, though? Nothing- you can see the epic implosion coming a mile away. Jets would have been better off sticking with Mangini, who was at least building a foundation of what might have become a good team.

Mangini building a good team?
Good joke! You see what he is doing in Cleveland right? They will have the worst record in the NFL, mark my words.

Probably, yeah, just like Belichick went 5-11 in his first year with the Patriots, with a team that had a lot more talent than Cleveland has right now. That's the whole point: good coaches build strong and sustainable programs and that takes time. Instant success is as much a product of luck and leftover talent as anything. The Jets' revolving door pretty much guarantees that they won't find that kind of stability, and therefore will continue to suck.

If Belichick was the coach of the Jets, there's a chance that he might have been fired after going 9-7 in 2002.

The team last year needed no building!!! It was built to win-now!! He didn't make the playoffs, he failed to do so & got fired. Rightfully so. You haven't been keeping up with the Jets if you don't think Mangini should have been fired.
