week 1 @hou.

The problem with saying he's not here to kiss BB's rings is that the NY media will eat him alive if the Jets drop their first 2 games. You know the Post already has a photoshopped pic or a cartoon caricature of Ryan kissing BB's rings just in case the Jets lose to NE, and especially if they drop both NEP games.

After game 2 of the 2009 season Patriots vs Jets game, BB played by the late Marlon Brando and Rex Ryan as the undertaker.

Somebody here needs to do that.

The more I think about it, and after reading another thread on comments made by Jets Players, I think Rex Ryan is making a very big mistake by feeding a trash talk culture by a team that hasn't won anything in 40 years with his own comments.

Ryan's dad was known as a brilliant defensive tactician who had trouble keeping his mouth shut (just ask Mike Ditka, who is someone I don't usually cite in these pages!) and ended up being a distraction.

Interestingly enough, Buddy Ryan started his tenure in Philadelphia by promising that the Eagles would win their division. He then became better know for his big mouth than for his performance as an HC. In the end, he never even went to a Conference Championship Game, let alone to a Super Bowl, as HC.

Like father like son? Big mouth? Great DC? Liked by some players, but seen as divisive by others? Stay tuned. This could be entertaining and he's the kind of guy that the Pats just love to shut up with their play on the field.

Read the stories about those empty seats in Yankee stadium, the Giants burning through their entire 140,000-person waiting list trying to sell PSLs, and the all the Jets fans giving up their season tix because of the PSL prices (check out jetsinsider), and even the signing of Favre, the firing of Mangini, the hiring of Ryan, and the drafting of Sanchez.

There's a common element to the Jets' actions--they're desperately trying to sell those PSLs. They'll say or do anything to generate interest in the team. Fire a media-phobic coach, hire a loud-mouth one, draft a glamour-boy QB, blow a wad on free agents, etc.

It's a lot easier to do these things than it is to develop an organization that can compete with the Giants and the Patriots, year-in and year-out.

It all fits.

Buddy's problem was that he was a defensive coordinator and didn't give a damn about the offense.

Look, I'm not saying that Rex is destined for Canton. I'm just noting that he's got his father's brashness, and his father still managed to have some success despite shooting off at the lip.

In the meantime, I LOVE THIS!!!!!!

The louder they talk the harder they fall, right FredEx?

Interesting take. I never even looked at it from that angle.

Yes, it certainly has the earmarks of calculated marketing, but it's a Mickey Mouse approach vs., as you point out, building a solid organization. The Green Beans have always had that cheap, carnival sideshow feel as a franchise. I think it comes with playing second fiddle to the Giants all those years.

considering BB is good friends with and mentored ozzie newsome and he didnt give rexryan the job..maybe its a personal thing

Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life.

General rule of life # 55: If someone goes out of their way to publicly say something is not true; it's most likely true.

Reality cannot be replaced by bluster.

Fact: the Jest have no QBs, only a rookie and an inferior bust.
Fact: the Jest have no WRs, to help out a struggling QB wanna-be.
Fact the Jest have a modicum of defensive plalyers, but not an overwhelming number.
Fact : the Jest D_Line, the heart of ant real Defense is non-existent.
Fact: the Jest look TO have losing seaon, while letting a rookie QB learn.

Mangini was in fact building a team, long term. Rexx will last just as long but do little.

Fat Wrecks is an arrogant ass just like his father. His father was a great DC but failed miserably as a head coach.

The fruit doesn't fall far from the tree.

New official name for head coach of the New Jersey Green Beans:

Tubby Wrecks, a/k/a T-Wrecks.

I'm not intimidated by the Pats either. Wait a minute... it's June and I haven't been smacked around by the Patriots... hmmm, come to think of it, neither have the Jets...

I guess the moral of the story is that it's easy not to be intimidated when your on your couch at home, but September on the field might be different.

Rex is the MAN!!! I can't wait to see the Week 2 matchup vs. the Pats. There will be blood. Fear this defense all you Pats fans!!! Jenkins, Scott, Revis, Harris, Rhodes, Ellis, Pace...I'm ready for football right now. :D

Go Jets!

that's only 7 defenders..the Rats won't get far playing 7 on 11
