Re: Dont get your hopes up but....

Sweet, would love to see the Pats youngsters contribute significantly. Bodes well for the team of the next decade......:D

Re: Dont get your hopes up but....

And setting the edge, and being more than reliable in coverage duties. But yeah, I see what you mean.
If Crable can provide consistent pressure on passing downs the rest will take care of itself. His buddy Woods can play on the early downs if Crable can't; we need pass rush rather badly, I think the rest will take care of itself.

Re: Dont get your hopes up but....

Julius/Jason who?????????????????????

Thanks for sharing. I don't think the Pats will have a problem finding a capable pass-rusher from the existing LB'ers on the roster. My biggest concern is health. It's been their biggest downfall and deterrent the past few years. The last place they can afford injuries is at the LB position, if healthy I have high hopes for Woods, Crable, Redd, Banta-Cain or anyone else for that matter that shows BB something between now and preseason. Hopefully, the injury bug has moved on from Foxboro and on to other teams this year.;)

I for one got so wrapped in the possibility of getting either Peppers or Taylor that you don't realize that one of these guys could be the answer. I guess that's why they pay BB the big bucks and don't base it on fan or media opinion.

Re: Dont get your hopes up but....

Im just hoping that the player starting opposite of Thomas will get a good pass rush whoever it may be. Again like the draft BB and Company is keeping EVERYONE guessing!!

Do you think that maybe, just maybe, BB doesn't yet know who will be the starter at OLB opposite AD this year? He seems to have a fair amount of confidence in the young guys - Woods, Crable, and Redd - but I'm assuming that whoever plays the best in training camp will win the job.

It's even remotely possible that Woods and Crable could both play well and end up at OLB, with Thomas moving inside. I don't think that's very likely, but stranger things have happened.

Here's hoping that Crable ends up being the best 3-4 OLB named Shawn(e) in the NFL this year.

Can you provide us an update with his weight?
I know he's listed at 245 but I think if he can get around 250... or 255, additional upper and lower body strength he will be able to better muscle OTs.

I don't doubt his speed off the edge, I just he needs more functional playing strength.

Ok, really dumb question. When you say "he's been told to throw on sweatpants," what does this mean? Is it that over the past year he's bulked up the stick legs and needs to cut some weight there, or that they want him to put the sweatpants on because they don't want people seeing how stick-like his legs are? I know...dumb question, but...

I wondered also but didn't want to be "that guy" who asked :D I'm assuming it means his legs are bigger and stronger but, as secretive as the NFL is, the Patriots want to keep the new and improved Crable under cover (or under sweats in this case) as long as possible.

Add me to the list of people who have no idea what this implies :D

That's what I took from it, but I'm not sure how much advantage there is to be gained from releasing giant calf muscles as a shock tactic. There must surely be something else to it.

Either way, my hopes are way up.

I was actually thinking this means that they want to hide his legs vs. show off his bigger legs.

It's typically very difficult to put muscle on the calf area specifically.
I would be more concerned with his glutes and quads.

George Costanza caught on with the Pats front office after getting fired by the Yankees.

The guy could have had a pound or two to work off. I took the sweatpants thing as a curious tidbit and nothing more, since we didn't have an explanation.

He's looking good in shorts? We're all set!!

I'm just unsure what there is to do to be impressive. I am not doubting someone told you something or whatever, but what specifically has "impressed" them? Its not on the field play. I suppose if its working hard, doing a lot of work in the film room and weight room....I guess I could see it. But, really, until he gets on a football field....which he hasn't since early last season, its hard to say how hard work will translate onto the field. His work ethic and preparation may be impressive, but there is nothing yet to base calling his actual play impressive. He hasn't played or practiced in a longgggggg time.

I thought maybe they told him to wear sweat pants to single him out and humiliate him into working out harder.

Re: Dont get your hopes up but....

FWIW Crable's been told to throw on some sweatpants.

Take that FWIW.

I found it very odd hearing that all other OTA participants were wearing shorts with the exception of Shawn

...so does this mean he'll be playing the season in Manny-pants?

Or maybe the sweatpants are there to mask the pass rush exoskeleton technology developed by Ernie Adams.
