Re: Official: Jason Taylor signs with the Dolphins.

We are up against the Cap if you read Reiss column, we have enough for draft picks and that is it.. I hope they have a plan, because Pierre Woods is now the starting olb.. So we ride with it.. Like I said hope Taylor likes not winning the super bowls because that is what will happen down there..

For the bolded reason above, I *really* hope Crable is ready to make the leap and is starting by mid-season.

Why the obsession about winning championships? The average player

is just concerened about making as many million dollars as he can. In

Taylor's case, he has had marital problems in the past and wants to

resolve them by staying close to his family.

Re: Official: Jason Taylor signs with the Dolphins.

I saw 1.5 mill for the year

Re: Official: Jason Taylor signs with the Dolphins.

The other thing to consider is that if LB is truly a thin spot, it might only matter for the base defense, which is probably only out there 40% of the time or so.

We can still run some intriguing packages out there. The 3-3 was working well for us at the end of the year, w Sey being a beast, Mike Wright applying some pressure, and hopefully Green can get his production going this year. Then the 3 LBs in that package would be AD, Guyton, Mayo, which seems just fine.

I don't think depth is an issue at LB. My concern is the starting positions. I think we have the most depth at the position we have had in several years, I just don't think the Pats have set in stone starters at two of the four positions.

I still don't see the Pats going from a 3-4 base unless the opponent calls for a 4-3 or other formation.

I think players like Taylor are more concerned with winning than money especially since they have made their fortune and the money isn't going to be all that different no matter where he goes. Seriously, the difference in offers he was getting were probably in the 100s of thousands for difference and not in the millions.

Re: Official: Jason Taylor signs with the Dolphins.

Hopefully we made it expensive for Miami to sign JT
I've seen one year for $1.1 million and one for $1.5, so it wasn't a whole lot of money. He's certainly getting a whole lot less than he would have had he stayed with the Redskins.

Re: Official: Jason Taylor signs with the Dolphins.

people here have a higher opinion of taylor than they should

he almost lost a leg last year

we didn't even want him in sd when there was rumors of that happening last year ...and that was knowing merriman was likely going to be re-injured early on in the season

it's been clear his career ended when he signed with the redskins (like many careers have, since the daniel came into power)

First, he played DE in the 4-3 last year, not OLB in the 3-4.

Second, his dance regiment with Dancing with the Stars last year probably stripped him of a lot of muscle mass since dancers are usually thin and toned rather than bulky and strong.

Third, the Chargers could not have wanted him for a number of reasons including cap considerations, the draft value in trading for him, whether he actually fit their style of 3-4, and the fact that Merriman intended on playing and trading a second round for back up insurance was too high.

Re: Official: Jason Taylor signs with the Dolphins.

Good if Woods, Crable and others step up, other than that, who is rushing the passer.. ???

Hopefully with a healthy Warren and Seymour, there will be mismatches on our OLBs.

I think when your second argument is based on Dancing with the Stars, it negates your first and third arguments, and automatically makes your adversary the debate winner.

Re: Official: Jason Taylor signs with the Dolphins

The Patriots unloaded Vrabel and saved a whopping 3% of their payroll by doing so. Rumors were that Peppers was coming here, which explained the move as it was and still is a head scratcher.

Now that Peppers (plan A) is not coming here and neither is Taylor (plan B), the reality is there really is noone set in stone to take Vrabels place. A mix of Banta Cain, Crable, Guyton, Woods, etc, etc, does not give me a warm and fuzzy feeling.

In 2006, they let Branch walk and replaced him with a bunch of nobodies and they lost the AFCCG; in 2008, they let Samuel walk and replaced him with a bunch of nobodies and did not make the playoffs.

This "In BB we trust" and "No one player is bigger than the whole team" and "It's not the players, it's the system and BB has a knack of plugging JAG's in and making it work" load of crap is getting old, five years removed from our last Super Bowl win.

Ok, now jump down my throat in 3,2,1......................

Fair points, and just to clarify, I wasn't suggesting the Pats would go to a 4-3, but that in the nickel, they could opt for a 3-3 instead of a 2-4, just to get their best players on the field. I guess it comes down to what Crable/TBC/Woods prove in TC, and what their value on 3rd downs is.

I guess it technically can be both. It is 1.1 mill base with 400k in incentives....And he he could have stayed in Washington for 8 mill.

Re: Official: Jason Taylor signs with the Dolphins

I was never interested in him anyway.

Re: Official: Jason Taylor signs with the Dolphins.

I think when your second argument is based on Dancing with the Stars, it negates your first and third arguments, and automatically makes your adversary the debate winner.

Exactly how does it negate the first or third argument? They are three separate points. Taylor failing as a DE in the 4-3 doesn't mean he is done as a OLB in 3-4.

So the fact that Jason Taylor did Dancing with the Stars is irrelevant. Even if he ended up play 15-20 lbs under his normal playing weight, it is irrelevant because it is a stupid reality game show? Eventhough the weight loss is a valid point to why he struggled last year? Jerry Rice predicted when Taylor started on the show that he would not be in football shape because Rice lost 15 lbs and he had next to no body fat when he started.

Ignore 2007 and we're almost even the best teams in the league at present...

That's interesting.

I think the topline talent is fine. Woods-Mayo-Guyton-AD seems pretty good to me.

If Mayo ever gets injured, though, we're up **** creek with no paddle. Depth, especially inside, is of much greater concern IMO.

This so sucks. Who rushes the passer on this team now?

All excellent points and it's hard to argue, but all I guess it comes down to is numbers and maintaining a business model that has rewarded them with continued success. It's obviously easier to reflect than speculate and BB himself would probably admit to making bad calls, but I'll still put my trust in him compared to anyone else. Hopefully, he sees something in some of the young guys that no one else does and one of them has a great year.

That's my feeling. I like Woods more than other people do, and I think TBC is a suitable backup. I also feel like one of Crable or Redd will be solid, though not spectacular.

Inside, if Guyton goes down, Bruschi isn't ideal but we know he'll battle for every inch. But if Mayo goes down, we have no one that can do what he can do for us. Of course, you could say that for most teams top middle LB. but it's still a concern.
