You Pick It: Pats All-Decade 2000s

i don't understand what the criteria is. How can Cassel be on any list? I love Welker but how can i place him above Troy right now?

troybrown.jpg

Cassel was on my list as a backup/honorable mention. By default, pretty much. Bledsoe led us to a 5-11 season in 2000 and posted a 77.3 rating. In 2001 Bledsoe was looking like crap again before Brady took over. So, Cassel doesn't really have much competition in being the All-2000s clipholder.

I don't think it's SS and FS, just two S. I would pick Milloy and Rodney.

You're right. I should have put Milloy as starter and Meriweather as honorable mention/backup.

Man, I remember how pumped up I was when we were going to field both Harrison and Milloy at the same time... and then Milloy got whiny and Bellichick cut him off.

On defense:

26
37

50 51 54 55
24 93 92 94 22

Stupid lame autoformating! The offense is in Ace Gun right, Brown, Branch, Light, Mankins, Neal, Kasczur, Welker, Moss, Brady, Dillon

The defense is in a 34, Wilson, Harrison, Law, Vrabel, Mayo, Bruschi, McGinest, Samuel, Seymour, Washington, Warren.

I'm not sure how much I have to add, but here goes:

QB: duh
RB: Dillon
WRs: Moss, Welker, Branch
TE: Graham (just)
LT: Light
LG: Mankins
C: Koppen
RG: Andruzzi
RT: Hmmm. I think Kaczur.

DEs: Warren, Seymour
NT: Wilfork
OLBs: Mc Ginest, Vrabel
ILBs: Bruschi, Phifer (with Johnson to pop in on running downs)
CBs: Law and one of Samuel or even Otis Smith. Hobbs less far behind than many people might think
Ss: Harrison and Milloy. As others have said, not really split into SS and FS.

K: duh
P: Miller
LS: duh
KR: ? Possibly Hobbs, but by committee.
PR: Brown, I think.
ST: again, duh.

For backups, I would definitely want both Mike Compton and Steve Neal, as well as Tom Ashworth. I would also want Ted Washington at NT.

At OLB, I think that Colvin is worth a mention. AD is a great player, but not sure he has done enough time and the same applies to Mayo at ILB.

Honorable Mentions in quotes

QB: Brady (Bledsoe)
RB: Faulk, Dillon (A.Smith)
WR: Brown, Moss (Branch, Welker)
TE: Graham
OT: Light, Kaczur
OG: Andruzzi, Mankins (Neal)
C: Koppen (Woody)

Defense:

DE: Seymour, Warren (Hamilton)
DT: Wilfork (Washington)
ILB: Bruschi, Phifer (Mayo, Johnson)
OLB: McGinest, Vrabel (A.Thomas, Colvin)
CB: Law, Samuel (O.Smith)
S: Harrison, Milloy (Meriweather, Clay)

Special Teams:

K: Vinatieri (Gostowski)
P: Miller
KR: Faulk
PR: Brown
ST: Izzo (Paxton)

A couple of things about ILB:

First, Phifer clearly gets the nod over Johnson or Mayo. Phifer was arguably the most underrated player of the Super Bowl run. The guy could play every down. Johnson was more of a run down guy who fell out of favor in the 2003 season.

Also, Mayo had a great rookie year, but he has played one year in the NFL. He doesn't have any right being considered in an All Decade team unless the position was completely devoid of talent. And it wasn't. Mayo is an odds on favorite to be a member of the 2010 decade team.

Woody played center with us. His switch to guard came with the Lions.

Woody played G in 2003 after Compton went down. Koppen played C.

I'd put eugene wilson ahead of milloy, phifer over johnson.....I would consider mike compton over neal........moss,welker,brown at WR and fauria/graham as the 2 TE set........

kaczur was no better than ashworth or gorin

some people like to just throw names out there......artrell hawkins???? you kiddin' me?

Stupid lame autoformating!

Next time when drawing out formations... use the 'code' tag (looks like a # sign up on your posting window) that will allow you to use manual spaces.

..... what the hell is Ken Walter doing on so many lists? I mean, really???? Uggggg.

..... and Hawkins?? I LOVED the dude.. valuable back-up that played with a ton of heart. But ALL-Decade?? No freakin' way.

Outside of TE/RT, this is a SICK team. Ahhh imagine that defense if we could have them all together in their primes. This offense plus Branch and Dillon :eek:

CB: Law, Samuel
S: Harrison, Wilson

K: Vinatieri
P: Walter
LS: Paxton

Belichick
McDaniels
Crennel

McDaniels over Weis??? WTF

Please put down the beer bottle

My turn. Parentheses denote honorable mentions.

Offense:

QB: Brady (Cassel)
RB: Dillon (Faulk, Smith)
FB: Evans (Pass)
WR: Moss, Welker (Brown, Branch)
C: Koppen (Woody)
OG: Mankins, Andruzzi (Neal)
OT: Light, Jones (Kaczur)
TE: Graham (Watson)

Defense:

NT: Wilfork (Washington)
DE: Seymour, Warren (Hamilton, Green)
OLB: Thomas, Vrabel (Colvin, McGinest)
ILB: Bruschi, Mayo (Johnson)
CB: Law, Samuel (Smith, Buckley, Poole)
S: Harrison, Meriweather (Milloy, Wilson)

Biggest crapshoot: Right Tackle and Free Safety

Adalius Thomas over McGinest? Really?

QB: Brady
RB: Dillon, Faulk
TE: Graham
WR: Moss, Welker, Brown, Branch
OL: Mankins, Light, Kaczur, Koppen, Woody

NT: Wilfork, Washington
DE: Seymour, Warren
ILB: Bruschi, Phifer
OLB: McGinest, Thomas
CB: Law, Samuel
S: Harrison, Milloy

Thomas over Vrabel?? Woody over Andruzzi?

Woody played G in 2003 after Compton went down. Koppen played C.

Forgot about that. Still, that's part of one year spent as guard, compared to all the seasons he played as center for us.

But yeah, I stand corrected.

Edit: Or did he play more than one year as guard for us...? Man, my memory is getting fuzzy.

No, he played center every year until 2003. Except for the times in 2001-02 when he switched with Compton for shotgun snapping.
