How is it relevant that they didn't have a hearing? Both players, while under team control in their arbitration years, managed to get those deals.

A player doesn't have to go to an arbitration hearing to get a deal in their arbitration years. Teams and players can settle on a one year deal to avoid a hearing. That's what Zambrano did, that's what Bedard did, and that's what Lester could have done.

Deal was just officially announced, Bay and Sox have agreed to stop talks for awhile because of the bad free agent market situation
