Brady actively recruiting Taylor?

How many backup OLB will we sign this offseason?

I've been as enthusiastic as the next guy for us to sign Taylor. However, if he really expects to get $7 mil per year guaranteed, he is seriously smoking crack. Washington was the only team dumb enough to offer him that kind of money.

At that cost, I'd rather pay some more (and give up draft picks) to get Julius Peppers.

That number has to be wrong. $7 mil per year guaranteed? Smoking crack!

I'm glad to see that there's at least some reasonable limit on the Jason Taylor madness. He should never have gotten $8M/year to begin with. $4M/year over 2 years would be possible if he wants to play for ring, but I would think that would be about the limit.

Hmmm

An older player that needs to learn a new playbook, at a new position, and doesn't want to participate in an off-season training program wants big guaranteed money?

Anyone else see all the red flags here?

My gut reaction was to disagree with you, given who Taylor is and the possibility that Brady really wants him on the team.

But, the more I think about it, you are right. This is a no "special privileges" team. Moss didn't get them. Brady and Seymour don't get them (unless they earn them by busting their butts in the Offseason). Taylor shouldn't get them either. He either comes and does it the Patriot Way or he does it somewhere else, no matter how much I'd like to see him wearing a Flying Elvis.

I don't know. Getting rid of a 34 year old Mike Vrabel and then bringing in a 34 year old Jason Taylor? Doesn't make a lot of sense and I'd wonder how it would go over in the locker room other than Brady. I don't want him. Is it too crazy to want players that are at least younger than 32 on this team? Jeesh!

I believe there are only 6 players on this team older than the age of 32. Check your facts Jeesh. If 32 is your cut off are you going to want Brady in a few months?

Brady will be 32 in August. Cut his geezer ass!

Some 34 year olds are different than other 34 year olds. Probable breakdown:

MONEY
Does Jarvis Green get cut?
Go more 4-3?
What does "play in space" mean to BB?

Nobody's going to pay him 7 million a year with his injury history and the fact that he doesn't want to do off season workouts. That's not even a possibility. I mean, if he wants to play with the Raiders or Tampa Bay I guess.... But if that's his mindstate he should just hop a flight to Hollywood already because football is done for him.

If he does come here, BB will let him off the hook for offseason workouts, but he's not getting more than 4 a year.

I think we have to wait and see how this plays out. If he's still unsigned by training camp then I like our chances of bringing him in for cheap $.

6 players too many if you ask me. How many of those 6 players were dealing with some sort of injury last year? Would Junior Seau have broken his arm if he was 5 years younger? How many arm tackles has he made in his career? Older players get injured. Then what good are they? Would Tedy have gotten injured last year if he wasn't slow and running behind the play? No. Because he would've made the play 6 yards up field and been in better position to make the play. Did you see Rodney's knee just buckle? I mean, I love these players just as much as the next guy but with older players it's just a matter of time till they're sitting in the training room.

What? You must be thinking of SOME OTHER UNIVERSE.

You aren't thinking before posting, PLEASE just stop.

What?!! All I want is to see our team get younger. What's wrong with that?

Nothing in your post happened, and you've effectively labeled Brady as fitting in with your ageist stance.

There are so many problems with this post.....

You mention Seau's broken arm....not sure where age factors into breaking bones (until you are like 80)....But also that was his first year with us he came back the following year and played the whole year including SB and came out retirement the following year to play 4 games no injury.

Rodney's injury last year was his quad I think upper leg at least....not knee that was a few years ago....Rodney was 31 when we signed him where would we have been in 03 and 04 without him?

Younger players get hurt too...Woods, Maroney.....

IMO if you are drafting well consistantly thru the years than you have all the youth you need and you should bring in the best talent you can regardless of age thru FA to suplement that so you have a good balance of youth and experience. The Pats have always done this well and I am sure we will see another player or 2 plus 32 brought in or back before the season starts.

The goal isn't to have the best young players, the goal is to win. If a guy can help the team win, the age doesn't really matter.

If you want to bring in a young guy who has shown the ability to rush the passer the way Taylor has in the past, I'm all for it. However, there are only so many of those players, so having Taylor for a couple years sounds pretty good.

Where on earth does this attitude of "if you're young enough you're good enough" come from? I've never understood it.

Good stuff, but I guess it's just a matter of opinion. I'd still rather have younger players who can develop than older players who will only get injured or give you so many impact plays per year. IMO the ceiling should be 32 and not any higher. But whatever. Here's to hoping the older players on the team this year can stay healthy.:)

I have been having this fight for years and never understood it either....
