Surgery For ARod

HGH should help him heal quick.

Not only is it a cyst, but it's also a torn labrum. And they're apparently going to wait on surgery. Good luck with that.

As we saw with Lowell and Utley (whose SLG plummeted from the first half to the second half) last year, a torn labrum will get worse as the season goes on, and will eventually need to be fixed with more than just rest and rehab. This isn't an injury he can just play through and not see a major decline in production.

Plus, despite surgery in November, neither Lowell or Utley has played a game this spring, and neither are a sure bet to be ready for opening day. So if ARod waits until the offseason to get surgery, it will likely mean a sub-par 2009, and it could mean a late start to 2010.

Perhaps A-Rod is going legit and having an addadick2me procedure. :confused2:

The irony here is this is the best thing that could have happened for the Yankees; without A-Rod around, there won't be 9,000 reporters following the team asking non stop about steriods.

By the time he comes back, the whole steroid thing will have blown over, although not knowing how bad of a tear it is, not sure if rest and rehab is going to do the trick.

Time will tell I guess; question now is who's on third?

He has opted for rest and rehab rather than surgery on injured hip.

No he hasn't. They're still unsure as to what they're doing, but they're leaning towards surgery (as opposed to Yesterday when they were leaning towards rehab).
Things have changed since yesterday. The Yankees said then that the plan was for Alex to try and play and have surgery after the season. Now both Hal Steinbrenner and Girardi have talked about Alex needing to make a decision about having surgery.

Alex underwent more tests today and supposedly planned to throw and even hit in a cage out in Colorado. Then he will take a day or two to decide what to do, in consultation with the Yankees.

The sense I get from talking to people both in Tampa and elsewhere is that Alex will be having the surgery and it would be as soon as Monday. The Yankees are fearful of his trying to play and then having to come out of the lineup.

My post was a word-by-word reflection from the screen on Sports-Center, go figure.

If they do rehab, he will be out later this year and most of next. It is time people realize that a torn labrum doesn't heal with just rest and rehab.

I think they should have the surgery monday, and hope he's back at 100% by the allstar break. Trying to play through it, which the specialist on hips said was 80% possible, leaves to much to risk moving forward. If he breaks down come August or worse, September, then you're stuck with a JAG at 3rd, and a giant hole in the lineup. By having the surgery, you know what you got till June/July, and if you can stay in the race, Arod's return would act as a deadline bonanza of sorts. Personally, I'd prefer to the certainty of a healthy ARod for the second half, over the uncertainty of not knowing if he;ll even make it that far.

I agree with Double G. No media circus to start the year could benefit the MFY as much as ARoids presents.

OTH, ARod is Mr. April and the new guy doesn't hit in April. The Yankees could be off to a really bad start. Either way, I think they are in trouble. Cheers!

the yankees are ****ed without aroid. he always puts up great numbers in april. the media circus angle is irrelevant

I've heard rumors that the hip ailment is actually a steroid related necrosis of the bone - a degenerative state that can be slowed but not stopped.

If true that's a lot of money that the Steinbrenner brothers have wasted, and I know we all feel really really bad about that
