Re: SPECULATION: Vrable is part of bigger deal involving Cassel; from decent source

If that were true, do you think they'd be banking on Curry?

Maybe Connor Barwin?

Seriously, one of the OTs or Curry. They're worth the #3.

This is coming from a source on Footballguys.com messageboard. Staff member there has an inside source with the Pats and occasionally will post good, solid info that is more often right than wrong:

Mike Vrabel traded to the Chiefs - Footballguys Forums

He says he is hearing buzz the Vrable move is part of bigger deal involving Cassel and Pats #1 which will potentially send back a 1st & 3rd to NE, with the teams also flip-flopping in a few other rounds to even out value.

Take it FWIW, but I wouldn't post this if I thought it was garbage. This guy (David Yudkin) has been spot on in lots of areas before and can be counted on for the occasional insider tid bit.

Again this is all SPECULATION, but it's a decent source.

Even if there wasn't a "source" it's just a common sense assumption when the draft pick isn't disclosed, you're dealing with the former GM of the Patriots who knows and likes Cassel, and needs a Quarterback etc. etc. etc.

I'm a little bit surprised that Belichick is sure enough that a guy at #3 is enough of a sure thing to justify the money he'll command - but I'll take that as a good sign as well.

Don't put down my binky.

Mike Mayock has said Aaron Curry is the best player in the draft and has no holes or weaknesses.

The fact we unloaded Vrabel without a clear replacement is a GREAT indication that Belichick really likes the LB draft class this year, or his own guys on the roster.

okay at this point it seems to be straightforward. we know that vrabel was traded but we don't know for what.

that means Cassel is involved here.

they wouldn't have finalized the vrabel deal if they didn't know what they were getting in return (likely 3rd or 4th just for him straight up), so we never would have heard anything. if it was just a straight up trade we would have heard "vrabel traded for 3rd round pick"

the fact that we haven't heard yet means that this is a Cassel trade and we probably have the 3rd pick in the draft but that they're working out a few details, likely surrounding 2nd round swaps or perhaps Pioli is trying to get BB to part with the 23rd pick by offering other pics. As others have pointed out, we wouldn't send a starting OLB to KC for a mid round pick with no strategy to replace him unless it was part of a larger deal.

i think by tomorrow we'll have two first round picks, the 3rd and the 23rd, and we'll have lost Cassel, Vrabel, and SD's 2nd round pick.

and i will be happy as a clam with either Curry or a franchise OT to replace an aging, slowing Matt Light. and we will get a very good CB or RB with the 23rd pick.

I like the way you think my friend. :)

Wow, triple mad. I suppose that's better than :enranged: .

What if it is they're first and second , for 23, and said players. Seems more realistic.

BREAKING NEWS : Tampa Bay TV Station FOX 13 is reporting BUCS are finalizing contract extention talks with MATT CASSEL . BUCS and PATS have agreed on DEAL pending CASSEL CONTRACT SIGNING ( 4 years -29.5 million ). Buc 's official confirms deal is for Buc's 2009 1st round selection and 2010 conditional 2nd rounder.

And you also left out a crapload under the cap!!

Two things (and I apologize for not reading the whole thread):

1. The fact that it's not finalized yet indicates that one of several things is likely true:

A. A Cassel-to-KC trade is still being negotiated.
B. The trade might involve KC picks that are also being discussed for inclusion in other trades.
C. The trade might involve picks that KC anticipates getting in other trades.
D&E. Same as B&C, but for the Pats.

A isn't the only possibility.

2. If there is an acknowledged mutual desire to do a trade involving Cassel and the #3, it's still hard to agree on the precise terms until both parties can gauge the #3's trade-down value (and also assess the players at the top of the draft).

is that really him posting that?

I posted this a while ago and another board member said the guy has been posting garbage all day long. My post was removed by the mods. I presume this to be utter garbage. I ultimately checked the Fox Tampa website, which has no mention of it.

Is this legit or just another rumor?

Not sure, Rob Allen says its just garbage and I have been looking for any location to confirm the details, but I figured I would throw it out there to see if anyone has heard it.

Would love for this to be true and really makes the most sense. Add Housh and that's instant offense.

I looked at the Fox 13 website and they had nothing on there about Cassel. Sounds like BS.

Although the contract numbers kind of indicate that on their own.

FWIW, I was just looking on pewterreport.com messageboard, and they say it's all bunk. FOX13 not reporting anything.

That was my initial thoughts, as he is scheduled to make half of that this year alone if he stands pat. This link shows the guys has posted it across every message board throughout the day NFL.com Member Profile: ashcefler
