LaMont Jordan not expected to be re-signed for 2009

If Maroney comes back and plays like BB envisioned him with that draft pick... I will take everything bad that I said and then some.

In fact, I'd be his biggest fan.

Maybe he is a late bloomer? In his case, hopefully.
Agree 100%.

I was glad he was drafted, and still think all he needs is to stop looking for a home run every carry and just take what is available.

Every off-season some players learn things and do better. No reason why Maroney cannot do the same.

Here's hoping.

Deeep draft for RBs.

NFL - National Football League - ESPN

NE could get a UDFA and put him on the PS like with BJGE this year, just in case. Would like to see a change-of-pace RB who also returned kicks.

the loss of LaMont might be a bit disappointing but not unexpected.

No, what needs to happen is they need to stop zone blocking in front of him. They suck at it.

I'd pick Jordan over Maroney any day. Not that we have that option we're stuck with ****yfooting brokeback Maroney unfortunately. I'm sick of Maroney. He sucks. Let's just admit it. When has Maroney shown enough skill? I can think of one or two games where he played pretty well, but chalk that up to our offensive line doing their job, not to any particularly Herculean efforts on his part. Unlike Jordan, who is a fighter, smash mouth runner. We absolutely need someone like that on the squad.

Its amazing how people ignore facts. Like the fact that Maroney, prior to this season, had a career YPC of 4.389. Yet, according to you he sucks.

Other than 2 games this season, Jordan was mediocre. He had 57 carries for 204 yards. A whopping 3.58 YPC. The only reason he did well against the Jets and Raiders (23 carries 159 yards) was because he had a chip on his shoulder for them and, well, the Raiders just plain sucked.

Correction. That comes from not wearing rose tinted glasses.
A RB prospect would be nice considering the high injury factory of Morris and Maroney.
But maybe BB believes that BJGE can fill the void.
Hard to tell. I'd rather have insurance if possible.

Go ahead and tell us why Maroney is a "great" back. You'd be laughed off the forum by most of the posters here.

Actually, you tend to wear the rose tinted glasses more than most people.

No where did I say that a RB prospect wouldn't be nice considering the injury factors of Morris, Maroney and even Faulk.

I don't know if BB believes that BJGE fits the void or not. I liked what I saw, though I wasn't annointing the next Otis Anderson or Rudi Johnson like some people were on this site.

I can make a compelling case that Maroney is a good back when healthy. I wouldn't say he's a great back, yet. His shoulder issue clearly wasn't taken care of in the off-season and that is why he was back on the IR so quickly this year. It was clear that the O-line to start the year was just flat inconsistent. For all the RBs. And all of them had trouble at one point or another. I still hold that Neal coming back AND them going to more in-line blocking was the reason for the turn around of all the RBs.

I may have overstated things a bit. You want data. How about this great analysis:

Jordan has a style of play we need. Maroney had a couple of good games where he began pushing into holes rather than dancing in front of them lwaiting for them to open up more. Giants last year game 16 he did very well, actually putting his weight into and and grinding through through the gaps. That doesn't seem to be his natural style, unlike Jordan. Our Oline didn't do as well this year either as last year, so comparing them is like comparing our WRs this year to our WRs last year.

Maroney had a lot more than just a couple of good games. And, you ignore that the Patriots did change their blocking style to more in-line blocking later in the season, all but scrapping the zone blocking for runs.

As for the pictorial, what Kurt didn't mention was that number 51 for the 49ers wasn't fully engaged, had a bead on Maroney and could have slipped Kaczur and taken the outside run away.

Jordan was nothing special last year. And I believe that BJGE is more likely to do the same thing that Jordan did in terms of being a down-hill runner.

Fully engaged or not, the pictorial shows what we all saw every week Maroney played last year: a hesitance to advance the ball when none was warranted. Hey, I'm rooting for him and understand if Jordan's let go; I'd just like to see what Maroney can do with a Sammy Morris mentality.

In 2007, Maroney ran for 100 or more yards in four of his final six games, including two playoff contests. Of the top 10 single-game rushing totals by Patriots players this decade, Maroney cracked that list three times over a four-game span, totaling 156 yards against Miami (12/23/07) and following that up with back-to-back 122- yard performances against Jacksonville (1/12/08) and San Diego

Maroney averaged 11.1 yards per carry against Miami on Dec. 23, 2007, totaling a career-high 156 yards on 14 carries. His 11.1 yards per carry is the third highest single-game total in Patriots history (minimum 10 rushes) and the best since Sam Cunningham averaged 11.4 yards per carry (125 yards on 11 carries) on Oct. 20, 1974

In 2007, Maroney had five 100-yard rushing games, including two in the playoffs. His five 100-yard games were the most for a Patriot since Corey Dillon tied the franchise record with nine 100-yard performances in 2004.

Maroney rushed for a 59-yard touchdown against Miami on Dec. 23, 2007, marking the longest run by a Patriot since 1998, when Sedrick Shaw scampered for 71 yards in the season finale against the New York Jets.

When healthy Maroney is very productive like in the playoffs last year. Yes he is young and has made mistakes but has the ability to rush the football. He is 23 y/o right now and if he take care of his body and gets healthy then maybe we can see how good he can be. I know I am one of the few who thinks that way about him but I thought I would throw in my two cents.
