Re: Rex Ryan HC of NYJ

Unless Ray Lewis and Ed Reed are signing on with the Jets......I am not worried. I think he has benefited from the personal that he has had.

My thoughts exactly. This is the same thing that got both Mike Nolan and Marvin Lewis a HC job and look how that turned out...

Re: Rex Ryan HC of NYJ

This is the best the Jests could do, given the buffoon they have for an Owner. "Woody" Johnson drove away the likes of Cowher and Shanahan. No premier, proven HC was going to go work for a guy whose idea of a good strategy was hiring a washed up 39 year old QB to sell his PSL's (and then saying he wanted him back after he showed that he couldn't get through a full season!).

And, even if Rex Ryan is the next Belichick, the Jets aren't going anywhere until they resolve their QB situation. Hopefully, Favre will return, fall apart after four or five games this year and pospone that resolution one more season.

Lets all hope he has Brett Farve at the controls in 2009.

maybe Gholston might just see the field

looks like the jets are likely todraft defense?

what are they gonna do at qb?

Re: Rex Ryan HC of NYJ

Another possible 3-4 Defense? Good thing we have alot of picks coming to us in the upcoming Draft.

I listened to some of Mike Francessa's show this past week. I guess continuing to run a 3-4 D and keeping Brian Schottenheimer as OC was a condition any new HC had to accpet in order to get the job. Both were things not favored by Steve Spagnuolo which is why he was not hired by the Jets.

Ryan is a good pick up for the Jets. The problem is that the Jets have no QB, a horrible cap structure, and not as much talent as they should have for the efforts. Not to mention some of their bigger priced acquisitions are on the downside of their careers. Add the fact Thomas Jones is close to the point where he could hit the age wall (as soon as this season).

Ryan can turn the Jets around, but I think they are already at a point where they have to rebuild.

Agree. That franchise is a mess and Ryan, tho a great signing, will have his work cut out for him. I hope Brett stays:D

Re: Rex Ryan HC of NYJ

This whole thing (11.5 hours according to PFT).. sounds like tampering to me.. very strange it could happen this quickly... surely someone will think it is fishy.. what goes around may come around, it usually does.

Well, they were already a 3-4 defense. On the plus side, they will probably not need any help in the front seven especially with their cap situation. So they probably won't be stealing Mike Wright nor be in the market for a LB. They desperate need of updating their secondary, but that obviously hurts the Pats who need help there too.

You can interview and make an unofficial offer during one designated week of the playoffs, but you cannot officially hire a coach until he is done with the playoffs.

Re: Rex Ryan HC of NYJ

Rex Ryan, Rob Ryan, Meg Ryan, or Private Ryan the Jest are still losers.

Re: Rex Ryan HC of NYJ

Personally I like Ryan but someone isn't impressed :

The Way We Hear It - NFL pro football rumors and insider news from Pro Football Weekly

The following quotes are from NFL scouts, coaches and front-office personnel, speaking on the condition of anonymity.

“(Ravens GM) Ozzie Newsome had a chance to elevate (Ravens defensive coordinator) Rex Ryan to head coach last year, and he didn’t do it. What does that tell you? Ozzie is one of the sharpest football guys I know. I don’t care what anyone in that organization says about Rex — I didn’t even have to ask the question. They answered it for me. (Like) Wade Phillips (and) Romeo Crennel, some guys are just meant to be lifelong coordinators.”

Re: Rex Ryan HC of NYJ

So, the Green Beans have another Tele-Tubby as head coach. Exit Tubby Ratfink, enter Tubby Rex. What a slob.

Where do you guys come up with this stuff? Not enough talent? We have seven pro bowlers on the team. And who is a Patriot fan to talk about players on the downside of their careers? Take a look at your defense.

Only an idiot judges talent by number of pro bowlers - but even if that meant something it's quickly undone by having no QB. Kellen Clemens ? Ha ha.

While the Pro Bowl can certainly be a popularity contest at times, you do have to be a good player to make it you moron. So with that being said, the Jets are certainly not a talentless team.

the jets suck. they are a dysfunctional franchise period. go stick your head in the sand if you must and try and convince yourself its not true. the fact that the jets went 9 and 7 with talent makes that team even worse. its about building a team not acquiring talent.

Re: Rex Ryan HC of NYJ

I'll never forget that 4th down TO Rex called in 2007 that probably would ended the game, and the Pats season to 15-1.

That said, I think Rex is a great choice for them. They already have 3-4 players established, and Rex will make them even better. Too bad they're in cap hell for the next few years.

Great post! You made some very strong points and backed them up with facts. Way to be!:singing:

The Jets new head's coach's name in pronounced "wrecks"....how fitting.
