OT: Jeopardy hates the Patriots Part 2

I saw it once. I saw the time go off the clock. I saw the ref standing right next to Belichick call it. Clock said zero, BB started coming on the field. Coughlin was there to greet him.

The second was put on after they had already shaken hands.

The clock may have read zero and a second put back on later, but my point was if you do not have a frame with Belichick looking at the clock at zeros, therefore proof that he knew the game was technically over, it does not answer the debate. His subsequent answer, "not much game left to play," only serves to fuel the debate that he knew there was time on the clock. My point was you will never know what Belichick was thinking at the time and therefore never really know if he intended to walk on the field with time remaining. There is a difference between confusion resulting in him inadvertently walking on the field and him intentionally walking on the field. That is why Hoodie can be as definitive in the opposite conclusion. Nobody really knows, and likely nobody ever will. It just should not be this major issue worth revisiting.

I did get a good laugh when they picked on Ashlee Simpson:

This sister of Jess collapsed on stage during a performance and was taken to the hospital. The audience remained and finished listening to the tape.

In your Monopoly example, "I have lost, I concede" is the same as "I quit," and maybe you played in a different sandbox than I did as a kid but that actually is a perfect illustration of being a sore loser.

Except that concede and quit are not the same word. Concede means to acknowledge (an opponent's victory, score, etc.) before it is officially established. Dictionary.com.

It is saying, "You've already won in everything but name, so let me be the first to acknowledge it." You are honestly the first person I've ever met who has said that a concession is being a sore loser. But hey, maybe we just run with different crowds.

My take is that kids who storm off and say, "I quit" are usually saying that "I didn't lose, because I quit first" (even if only in their heads).

There is a difference between walking on the field when the clock is running down after a winning team's last kneel-down when the play clock is greater than the game clock ...

True, but as the Giants were already walking across the field and the game clock showed no time, it's not exactly like Bill walked over with five minutes left, shook hands and walked out of the stadium. That he had left or was leaving as the entire victory swarm was on the field with one second left and the Giants able to kneel it away anyway, isn't the same as what you're suggesting, either. To then expect me to find an example of what you suggest is a cheap debating tactic.

The reason I am giving you this long answer with lots of links is I suggest if you are going to call somebody 100% wrong...

You are correct and if my 100% words or tone offended you, I'm sorry. But it was pretty much a reaction to your "undebatable" words and tone, which I felt were out of line.

And if you still want links, I am sure I can google up some concessions from countless politicians who gave up before every last vote was counted (and they can't all be sore losers, can they?). ;>

When the clock went to ZERO, I saw Belichick next to a referee who blew his whistle for the end of the game. The ref signalled the end of the game, and Belichick walked out and greeted Coughlin, who was already out there. Right before Belichick shook hands with Coughlin, you could see the refs conferring, and as BB was talking to Coughlin, a ref took his arm and said there was still one second left. At that point, Belichick looked at him as though he was insane.

Then again your "branding" is quite puzzling. I want a coach that is not happy with losing. Was he a sore loser? Not in my interpretation, and I've been one on many an occasion.

I like BB. A lot. But his actions at the end of the superbowl were those of a sore loser.

I don't have problem with that. In fact I prefer having a coach that is better at winning than losing.

BB is the greatest coach in the NFL. But when someone says that he was a sore loser at the end of the SB or compares his wardrobe choices to the homeless, I don't get indignant because its true.

Look, whether Bill knew or not is in doubt. The fact that we're still having debates about it shows that.

Getting back to the main complaint is that Jeopardy is making it out to be a clear cut fact, that Bill was a sore loser, threw a hissy fit (does anyone remember a hissy fit being thrown - really???) and knowingly left before the time expired. And that's just bull.
:disagreement:

That's the part that aggravates me. There were extenuating circumstances, but Belichick was already gone when the final second of the game was run off. If Jeopardy wants to claim that represents sore loser-ness, that's not a big deal to me.

But they couldn't stop there and had to claim a "hissy fit" took place. That's pure fiction. Do Perloff and Easterbrook write for Jeopardy?

I guess the truth was too long to fit on the Jeopardy panel, such as

What NFL coach went on the field after the clock went to 00:00 after a tough loss, to shake hands with the opposing coach, who was aleady on the field before him and moving in his direction, but was then told by an official that 1 second had to be put back on the clock and probably unwisely out of frustration decided "what's the point in that?" and left the field after the cordial handshake and prolonged exchange of congratulations with the opposing coach?

he says "hissy fit" besides richard simmons ?

the questions in that category were tongue-in-cheek to begin with. and since that was the theme of that category, strict accuracy fell by the wayside, but im sure most sports fans still knew the answer.

rehashing what belichick did or what the clock read a year ago isnt going to get anyone further than it did... a year ago. demanding some writer's head for that little whim is a bit extreme.

Connery needs to take care of Trebek's dirty mother for this.

If you were upset with what Jeopardy has said about Belichick. Most people think the same way unfortunately. You should watch this guy talk. He is straight forward with his feelings, respectful at the same time. When you watch this you think we should be more respectful to our elders. It was a breath of fresh air to listen to this guy.

YouTube - BELICHICK CLASSLESS? NO WAY!

On a semi-related note, ABC briefly had a game show called Duel, hosted by noted JEST fan Mike Greenberg. The basic premise when it aired was, "Win five consecutive games, win $500,000."

I would have loved to be on the show, just so I could say this: "Mike, you're a fan of the New York Jets, right? . . . What do you know about winning five games in a row?" :D

God I hate that whiny little prick. I never knew the show was on, glad it was cancelled. Is it just me or does the guy look like a corpse with the constant dark circles around his eyes?
