Hate to bring it up Tuna lovers, but Bill Parcells still has not been associated with any playoff win by any NFL team without Bill Belichick.

Just sayin..........

Belichick made the man and know has surpassed the man thus Belichick is the man. :youtheman:

This made my day... but the press and espn will continue their incessant ball washing..

Well, Parcells is still a really good football mind.

Technically you're not right; in 1984, Parcells' Giants won one Playoff Game before BB became DC. However, in general, I take your point.

Without further ado, here's my annual Parcells with and without Belichick post (and YES, I know it's unfair and YES I know it doesn't acknowledge Parcells' brilliance as a rebuilder of bad franchises, and YES I know that Parcells went to three SB's with three different QB's and two different teams, and YES Parcells still belongs in the HOF and YES I sure wouldn't want to say it to Parcells' face, but it sure is interesting...):

HC Parcells with Belichick as DC or Assistant HC
Regular Season: 105--54
Playoffs: 10--4
Championships: Division 5, Conference 3, SB 2

HC Parcells without Belichick as DC or Assistant HC
Regular Season: 67--69--1
Playoffs: 1--3
Championships: Division 0, Conference 0, SB 0.

Speaking of Parcells' face, is it just me or does he look a lot like Ray from the show "Everybody Loves Raymond" ... at least in the face?

I can't see either one of them without thinking that.

I posted this in another thread, so here goes...

Same happened with Parcells' 1st year in Dallas-a bad QB(Quincy Carter), a worse RB(Troy Hambrick), and a mediocre DL...they nonetheless overachieved that year to finish 10-6 partly thanks to the lucky bounce of the ball and a few opposing coaches being morons, and not to mention too a joke schedule...and yes, Parcells and OC Sean Payton used some trickery in the playbook to get some success early in the year. They subsequently got bounced out in the WC game by Carolina in a blowout score.

What happened the year after? The mediocre talent on this squad showed its ugly read-end and their record flipped to 6-10. I mean this team was HORRIBLE...getting blown out in alot of their losses. Parcells ripped up the entire 53 man roster afterwards, but it took him 1 year to figure this out.

Sound familiar with the Dolphins this year? I'll bet anyone that this 11-5 record will fool Parcells/Sparano to infinity and they'll be naive enough to keep this roster the way it is. 5-11 next year...book it!

I think they will slide a little next year due to a schedule that just can be as easy as the one they had this year, but I don't think that Parcells has delusions that this team really has 11-5 talent.

In fact it was a topic of discussion on south FL sports radio (where i live) when in and interview he was asked who is "untouchable" as they continue to reshape this team. He was pretty clear that every player was available and nobody was expendable, with the only exception being Jake Long for contract reasons (his signing bonus would be a huge dead-cap hit if he were traded). He didn't mention pennington, Ronnie Brown, etc.

He is better at player personnel decisions than to look at how they piled up victories against losing teams and think that they have the necessary talent to keep it up.

Belichick was still with the team, no? I thought he was linebackers coach. He wasn't the DC here in 96 either, Al Groh was, he was an assistant head coach and DB coach.

Belichick was why the defense improved in 1996, not Groh. And in 1984 Belichick had a lot of influence as well. Point is, BB was there for every one of Parcells playoff wins.

No he didn't. This is one of the great myths of BB's career.

You are correct. Ray Perkins was coach of the Giants when BB arrived. Parcells was D coordinator under Perkins.

Parcells kept BB on staff after Perkins went to Alabama for the 1983 season and Parcells became head coach. Parcells was nearly fired after going 3–12–1 in his first year. He did promote BB to coordinator for 1985.

I know I was just clarifying. Parcells has 0 playoff wins without BB on the staff in some way, shape, or form.

Interesting comparison. You might look like a prophet. Good stuff.

exactly...that's why i say specifically as "DC or assistant HC" where he had control over a wider range of the game. In 1996, he was, as you pointed out Linebackers Coach and Assistant HC, so I include that year as a "With Belichick" Year.
