Re: PFT:pioli very interested in the browns GM job

you mean phil savage who got fired by browns ?who wrote emails back to fans in stupid language ?
Last yr it was -can BB win without Brady?. Now it will be can BB win without pioli ?
this sucks big time if it happens.
Hey, by the way, isn't this when we should be getting follow-up stories from Massarotti and Borges to their "Now We'll See How Good Belichick Is?" columns written in September? Think the're big enough to write them? I KNOW they aren't...

Bill knows Savage well. Obviously if he can't control himself then Bill would have no interest but Savage has a good reputation as a scout/personnel guy and I could easily see him coming here if this season just got away from him emotionally.

i wish massortti would show up and face it now. he wrote the garbage in sept about BB's coaching record without brady .What now ? As expected he has forgotten.

I'm sorry. Why would Pioli want to go to an organization that has continually screwed up their coach/gm situation, again? I must have missed that.

I never thought Pioli would go to KC, but I guess Cleveland is another story. He had his start in Cleveland and still has a good friend base there (including Mark Shapiro of the Indians). I think Cleveland would be the only team he would leave the Pats for since he obviously didn't jump at the Giants' GM position. Personally, I thought he would be here for life, but I may be wrong.

If Pioli chooses to leave, I wish him the best. It will be very, very difficult to replace Pioli, but not impossible. He was a key cog in the puzzle, but Belichick is still the mastermind.

I think adding Phil Savage would actually be a good idea. I think he is an excellent talent evaluator (granted hard to tell from his Browns tenure). With strong direction from Belichick, I think he could flourish here. I mean he was the guy who scouted (well him and his scouting staff) guys like Jonathan Ogden, Ray Lewis, Adalius Thomas, Terrell Suggs, Ed Reed, etc.

And why would Cleveland want to pick up another part of the New England organization? They did just fire Romeo? It is not like the Belichick family tree have had a stellar year. (Obviously except the guy in Atlanta)

I think it is obvious that the whole organization revolves around Belichick.

You wrote the part that's fatal to your argument in your own post, but still made the assertion.

In addition why would he go to an organization that has more leaks than the big dig?? From what we know of Pioli he likes to run a tight ship, much like BB.

Mary Kay of the Cleveland Plain Dealer says "Pioli has also been contacted by either the Kansas City Chiefs or Detroit Lions and will interview for that job as well, a source said." This seems out of character for Pioli, it seems as though he is desperate to get out of town. Also didn't the Lions name a new Pres and GM as well today?? Things simply don't add up with this report.

and who uses OR like that?

Quick search shows 2005 unknown extension. If he's up soon, a little interview spree yo show his value would be appropriate.

I doubt this rumor is true. Pioli did start in Cleveland and moved to Baltimore with the Ravens when Belichick got thrown under the bus. Pioli stayed with the Cravens in 1996 and rejoined Belichick in 1997 and has been with him ever since.

The Browns Pioli was affiliated with are now the Ravens. The current Browns are an entirely different organization. Other than his four years spent in the City of Cleveland (a city that showed little love for Belichick), what is the hook to go back?

I have no doubt Kraft knows Pioli's value and will pay him what he wants if money is an issue. Other than being given the power to bark at a head coach, he has a great situation with the Pats. He has been offered GM roles before, so why jump ship now?

As an aside, I do believe Pioli-Belichick represent a tandem, not Belichick telling Pioli what to do in a way that could simply be replaced by bringing in a new GM. The organization would take a big hit if Pioli left as good GMs are not a dime a dozen. As such, I hope this media burp is garbage like the other rumors and Pioli has no plans to jump ship.

We've been overlooking one thing in all this. His wife, and family. He has stated before that his family is very happy where they are. Wives have alot of influence on these types of decisions, and that could be factor here. Why would his family want to live in Cleveland? OR Detroit? (no offense to people who live there:D)

Here's a link to alot of stories, and interviews with Pioli.

Re: PFT:pioli very interested in the browns GM job

If Pioli decides to bolt..................

I'm okay if we can get Savage. He just needs someone like BB behind him. Let's face it, the guy does know talent. 3/4 of Baltimore D are people he recognized as talent.

Same with Cleveland. There is much talent there, despite the fact that it has not been properly exploited (which would not be an issue here). I think BB/Savage could certainly work.

Pioli is great, but he ain't the architect, BB is.
I'd rather have Ozzie Newsome than Savage. But that ain't happaning.

Before Dmitroff left last year, wasn't there another understudy under Pioli who left. I believe he went to the Eagles or the Ravens. If Pioli were to leave, would this be a person to consider bringing back in?

He's still writing snarky crap about the Patriots.

Pats, Cassel prepare for the big game.

My favorite bit of stupid hyperbole is: "Here in New England, where we see all things through the eyes of the Patriots and their fans, the decision is simple: Franchise him. Trade him and get something in return. Do not let him walk away for nothing."

I wonder how the Patriots and their fans view the latest outbreak of Israeli-Palestinian violence? I'll have to find out in order to know how I feel about it.

Like we said, too many loose lips in Cleveland: ProFootballTalk.com - BROWNS LOOK AT SHANAHAN, SCHWARTZ

An unnamed source told the Cleveland Plain Dealer that the team’s attitude toward contacting Shanahan is, “How can you not?”

A separate Plain Dealer report says the Browns have asked for and received permission to interview Schwartz, who worked as a scout for the Browns from 1993 to 1995, when Bill Belichick was head coach.

So what exactly would Pioli be doing in Cleveland?? Isn't he supposed to be in charge of hiring the HC?? Why don't they get him on board first then wait and see who he decided to hire?? I don't think SP will be going to Cleveland.

I seriously doubt that Robert Kraft and BB are waiting with baited breath to see what decision Pioli will make. If Scott is going to be leaving I am sure that the Krafts and BB are already aware of it and have made contingency plans. IMO Scott is a key part but not an indispensable part. Maybe some fresh blood will be good.
