So who does draft work? Pats pick before or after playoff teams with worse record?

Someone refresh my memory as to how the draft is ordered? IIRC, it's simply in order of regular season record, except SB winner is #32 and SB runner-up is #31.

Is that correct then that 1-30 are seeded by record order regardless of the teams making the playoffs?

Time to look where we draft. Atlanta also finished 11-5 and made the playoffs. Do we pick in front of them?

Pats pick before the Falcons because the Falcons made the playoffs (teams with the same records are broken first by whether or not they made the playoffs, then by strength of schedule).

Assuming a 10-6 or worse team does not reach the Super Bowl, the Patriots will pick 24th. There are 23 teams with 10-6 or worse records, and all of the other 11-5 teams made the playoffs, meaning the Pats pick before them.

And SD pick in round 2 will land somewhere between 42 and 44 if they lose tonight and 48th (they would make the playoffs hence pick after all the 8-8 teams that didnt make the playoffs) if they win

I'm not going to complain about an 11-5 team not making the playoffs ( it sucks but its so rare that its not worth *****ing about ) but I really think its stupid that the team is punished twice by picking behind the **** teams that went 8-8, 9-7 but made the playoffs. All non playoff teams should pick before any playoff team.

We will pick at the 20th spot in the draft. The 12 playoff teams will pick from 21-----32.. We have the best record of the 20 remaining teams so we pick in the 20th spot..........I think

Completely agree. How multiple playoff teams will also get to pick ahead of us in the draft is unfair.

This is wrong.

Regular season record determines the entire pick order, with the exception of the SB winner and loser, who pick 32 and 31, respectively.

Re: So who does draft work? Pats pick before or after playoff teams with worse record

That is completely asinine. So the Pats got screwed in terms of making the playoffs with teams with worse records getting in, yet those teams pick before them.

Makes NO sense. If you are going to have the current playoff system, then teams that make it should not be picking before non-playoff teams.

Re: So who does draft work? Pats pick before or after playoff teams with worse record

Pats will pick 20th...

"Remaining teams are sorted by regular season record, with worse records picking first, regardless of playoff status; teams that make the playoffs can't pick before teams that do not." ----NFL rules for determining draft order.

Re: So who does draft work? Pats pick before or after playoff teams with worse record

That's absolutely absurd that playoff teams with worse records would pick ahead of a non-playoff team. What a joke...

EDIT: If what Patsbacker is saying is true, then good. Any other system would be moronic...

See rule above...

If the Chargers win today they go in with an 8&8 record. That is picking in the mid teens no way that happens. Yes the super bowl teams pick at 31 and 32 and the rest of the playoff teams will pick at the next highest ten spots 30-21...Playoff teams and non playoff teams are in separate groups. I'm almost sure of it .. Great Blue said after the Chargers game they will post the selection order..

We haven't talked about the draft this early since 2002! While on the whole, this would usually be a disappointment, I can't help but be thankful for the Pats run this year. Nice job pats and I hope that we do pick 20th.

Looking back to last year, the Browns went 10-6 did not make the playoffs whereas the Redskins went 9-7 and made the playoffs and had the pick before the Browns. If the rule hasn't changed, this says that the Pats will be picking behind playoff teams in the #24 slot.

Right, the playoff/non-playoff rule only applies to teams with the same records.
