San Diego #2 pick, don't forget about it

I'm not too worried on the basis that the Chargers are still being coached by Norv Turner.

You could have stopped right there as far as I was concerned.

And I'll second the notion that while it is a topic worthy of its own offseason thread, WTF is with this team and 2nd round draft picks.

One might suggest half jokingly that we'd be better off swapping a 5th rounder for a 2nd straight up - I think we have a better record in that round than the 2nd.

I hope you are not tossing Reiss in with the mediots..His putting Gutierrez ahead of Cassel was only what he thought they would do..HARDLY anything close to idiotic..HIS opinion..and he was wrong...and Did you not read all the Cssel sucks threads in preseason? How many thought Cassel would make the team..let alone play like he has? If I had a dollar for all the posts about how bad Vassel was I'd be rich.

I saw what BB was doing with Cassel, using him as a punching bag if necessary to test OL canadidates and not giving him any first string recievers to see if any scrubs were worth more than a bucket of spit (they weren't), in the pre-season. I said Cassel was handling the tar baby very well.

And I said so publicly and often...

it is. picks are all great, but playoffs are better
Unless you can only talk about one thing at a time, I still don't see what the two have to do with each other.

the draft is all fine and dandy and talking about draft picks is nice speculation on what they will get and what they will do. but the bottom line is picks won't make it feel better if we don't even make the playoffs.

we need to at the very minimum need to make the playoffs and we are extremely close to not making them.

it's not even like we are talking about a first rounder. it's a second rounder. it's nice, but after stripped of a first rounde last year we have to realize that for every jerod mayo there is a maroney, watson, bethel.

my point is that draft is only as good as the progress you make. and the progress we make here in new england is measured in superbowls.

just ask detroit about their draft.

Well, whatever. I'm enjoying rooting for the Patriots and against San Diego at the same time.

hey I'm glad san diego is losing too. I hope they get picks for Cassel.

I just see the future as now, this year. we're in the midst of the peak of this franchise and there aren't too many of these years left at the top.

cassel is riding high and if they lose sunday i think the pats might get bounced out.

We can lose one for sure and probably two to make the playoffs. I see Baltimore losing three more with their schedule.

I hope you are right. I am pretty nervous about the rest of the season. I'll be disappointed if we don't make the playoffs.

I never would have thought the offense would carry this team and the defense would be shaky. Hopefully they come around soon.

Another CB in the 2nd round.

Wheatley will be injury prone for his entire career

I only wish I had your omniscient prescience regarding players' future careers. Bet Belioli wishes they had your ability too. You could be making 7 figures advising GMs as a top consultant. Let us know how that goes for ya.

Not saying BB will not draft another CB. Why not?

I think Wheatley is a passing down only player,, nickle, dime

He will be very good, just don't expect the durability,, been injured before, went down pretty quick for us,,

He was hurt on a "passing down"

It was a freakish injury, not sure how you can label him as being injury prone already.

Curtis Martin missed most of his last year of college...he sure ended up being injury prone!

after SD loss it looks this pick could really be attractive

Wheatley started looking fantastic when he went down. The kid play coverage with discipline, was tight and improving on a weekly basis.

His injury was freaky. He'll be fine. I can't wait to have him out there for next season.

he did nothing all year , couldnt get on the field, when he did he made one play in the colts game, then injured his wrist which is what he did most in college, dont get to excited just yet on one pass breakup

It's definitely looking like a top half of round 2 pick, one more loss gives them 9 losses, it's way more than I expected when we made the trade. As was mentioned, too bad we seem to have wasted the #5 pick on Slater although we do need to be a little patient with rookies.

landing that pick at 45-50 spot range would be great

As of today it would be the 7th pick in the second round and the #39th pick overall. However they are in a log jam of what will be 4, 4-8 teams (two 4-7 teams play against each other tonight, in yet another stellar MNF matchup).

I don't have access to my spreadsheet, but I can tell you with 99% certainty it can't do worse than move the SD pick down to #40.
